"You're telling me my aunt has a second soul?" Shining asked, taking a swig from a bottle of Spurlin brand Lager, his father's Germanian side clearly showing. Kel'Thuzad nodded.
"Yes, my king. Would you happen to know why?" Kel'Thuzad inquired. Shining thought...
Luna was never one to study... darker magics, seeing as she was still somewhat... tender about Nightmare M...
Wait.
No...
The Elements...
Well...
From what Kel'Thuzad had read, the Elements of Harmony themselves were not ALL about friendship and kindness. They apparently acted as... funnels. Amplifiers.
All ponies had magic within them. Shining had learned that in the second grade. Unicorns were the only pony species capable of openly wielding it, however...
Barring alicorns, of course...
What if... Nightmare Moon DID indeed survive the... rather violent magical purge of Princess Luna's body?
What if that soul WAS Nightmare Moon, waiting to retake Luna and to attempt her coup once more?
.........
"Nightmare Moon." Shining finally spoke, startling the lich, who had been molding a perfectly spherical ball of compacted snow.
.........
Kel'Thuzad thought for a moment...
Yes, he'd heard of this... 'alter ego' of hers, but he had never taken it into much consideration...
According to documents he had found in the Royal Library, (which Cadence had given him UNRESTRICTED access to, much to the lich's joy) Nightmare Moon had been violently ripped from Luna, and banished...
Well, if what I detected within Luna IS Nightmare Moon...
The Elements of Harmony may not be EVERYTHING they are cracked up to be...
He had no doubt that the elements were powerful. Just being near the girls had signified that...
But if they had not FULLY purged Nightmare...
.........
"My king, retire for the evening. Tell Lady Cadence of our conversation, but tell not another living soul. I will handle Celestia." the Archlich turned to his king. Shining nodded. He trusted Kel'Thuzad not to... interrogate Celestia...
He silently hoped anyway...
"Very well... have I nice night, Kel'Thuzad." Shining then got up from the frosted-over bench, retrieved Frostmourne from it's cradle of snow, and with a single, gargantuan flap...
He was at his quarter's balcony already.
Maybe those wings aren't JUST for show after all...
Kel'Thuzad chuckled, and rose from the bench. He cracked his neck violently, sighing as several small strands of ice snapped and collapsed, relieving the pressure and allowing more open movement of his head once more. With a flick of his wrist, Bloodsurge was in his claw, and being swung downwards through the air.
"Maybe her sibling can shed some light upon the subject..." he droned to himself, floating through the bluish-purple portal, the entrance collapsing as the last of his robes flowed through them...
.........
Kel'Thuzad stood in front of the large doors, his claw in a fist and ready to knock. The guardsponies had grown rather used to his... nightmarish appearance at this point, and were quite happy to tell the lich the room that was housing Princess Celestia for the time being.
Kel'Thuzad growled quietly. He wasn't going to go anywhere if he didn't knock.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
.........
Nothing.
With a quick incantation, the lich had eyes on the inside of the room.
It turns out these crystals were quite marvelous at channeling magic, and finding a pathway through the wall for his scrying to enter was relatively easy...
What he saw inside suprised him, to say the very least.
Candles dotted the otherwise dark room, the gentle glow illuminating the crystal walls.
Well... to be frank. Marrowfrost was within, and the solar princess was as well.
Marrowfrost was atop her...
Giving her a massage.
Nope. Not tonight then...
Cancelling the scrying process in record time, the lich rolled his eyes. His assistant certainly had free will, and was capable of... emotions. But he had never expected to have his ward... courting one of his superiors...
"These are the situations that make me wish I could still enjoy a nice brandy..." Kel'Thuzad muttered, floating silently down the hall to his room.
.........
"Does Kel'Thuzad think, or KNOW Nightmare is... here?" Cadence worriedly asked, her small form curled up beside her husband, who's wings were draped over them like a blanket, the sheets lying unused beneath them.
Shining chuckled lightly.
"Cadence, he doesn't KNOW for sure, but if I had to guess, he is already hard at work trying to find a way to find out." he nuzzled his wife gently on the back of her head, gently kissing her mane. He loved when they cuddled like this. He felt... powerful. Protective. He was surrounding her, smothering her, and she loved it. He inhaled deeply, savoring his mare's smooth scent.
"Alright... I just hope Auntie Luna is okay... she's already gone through so much... I’d hate to see her banished again..." Cadence whimpered, nestling herself further under his wing, the loving heat coming from his massive appendage warming her better than any blanket...
Shining nuzzled her again.
"Don't worry about it, Cady. She'll be fine..." the prince was... admittedly not tired, but his angel was falling asleep quickly in his embrace.
And that was good enough for him.
May be a short chapter but it made up for it by being a good one.
So, tia the all but Argent Crusade desire to kill it with solar fire is getting attached to a Lich. Okay, let's see where THIS goes.
While I doubt it, I'm hoping Luna's time with other ponies has given rise to the other soul but like I said doubt it.
Calling it now, Nightmare Moon.
6679181 Marrowfrost/ Lal'theron is a Revenant, which is a step down from lichdom. Basically the same but a revenant dies permanently if killed. (Unless he is resurrected...)
Could have sworn he was from Alemaneia.
(Bonus points if you can decipher that one.)
...with his boner. hyehyehyeh
6679232 Appropriate word usage... BONED!
I applaud you, good sir!
The mental picture of a thousand year old undead lich making a snowball is adorable. After everything he's gone through he's still a child at heart enough to pass the time by playing with snow.
6679282 Even a dead guy needs to have fun at some point!
I see someone gonna change his employer soon.
I hope you will start to write longer chapters someday.
6679302 I update daily, so if that ever changes, the chapter length will most likely change as well.
... that is a rather strange couple...
6679335 What are you talking about? I think they go great together...
. . . . . . . . . I ship it. . .
6679194 Hey i was wondering how does a Death Knight rank in your Undead ranking system? I would imagine there preety high up there in any system but just curious.
6679792 Scourge Death Knights, in Wow Lore, are basically the closest you can get to living undeath. They are resurrected using the original soul, and utilize blood magic to keep themselves 'fresh'. They are an advanced form of Revenant, and are capable of all things human...
Including copulation...
Still no children though. That'd be problematic...
Death Knights under the Scourge were a perfected design, and were orchestrated and refined by none other than Kel'Thuzad himself...
In terms of Undead power...
Construct<Revenant<Death Knight<Lich
In terms of Living quality...
Construct<Revenant=Lich<Death Knight
Hope this clears up any questions from here on out!
Luna is not going to be a 100% fine after this. Shining and his lich have the subtlety and finesse of a sledgehammer.
6679818
Unless you mean constructs are the best undead, I think you got those >'s backwards.
Why can't undead have children, though? Is it 'just' because their gametes are dead/sterile, or is there something magical going on? I imagine if you extracted Shining's DNA and put it in a healthy cell from a living pony you could grow yourself a little Shining clone. Turn the cell into sperms and you could fertilize Cadence with them. Unless the undeath process nukes all the DNA in the body, I guess.
Not that ponies or Azerothians would necessarily know about cells and DNA, but theoretically...
6680071 Yes, I did get the symbols wrong. Apologies.
In terms of offspring, Shining's cells are dead. Remember, while Shining is the Lich King, he is still a LICH. Necromantic energies are EXTREMELY caustic and poisonous to living beings. (Death and Decay is basically an overwhelming amount of necromantic energies.) His alicornhood has restored some lifelike 'qualities' to his body, however.
While he may never sire offspring, he is able to eat, sleep, and drink as if he was alive. (Yes, that means he can still do the naughty with Cadence)
6679956 That "Lich" is the most talented necromancer in Azerothian history, barring the Lich King himself.
Whatever this rogue soul is, Kel'Thuzad can make short work of it...
Necromancy is the manipulation of souls, after all...
6679337 never said they wouldn't. i simply said its a strange couple.
6680230
True, but when breaking stuff too people they both suck. Also used the word lich because I was tired and didn't feel like scrolling up. On top of that even though he has masterful work as far as I know of the lore he never had to be truly delicate toward living people in his necromancy work, so some of that finesse he has is lost.
Lol Marrowfrost was atop her... giving her a massage.
As I was reading this I had scrolled just enough to not see the second line of that and my first thought was he's giving her a bone then i was thinking 'there is no way Tia is going to get anything out of a interaction with a walking Skelton, unless she's slightly morbid. ' hilariously prefect lag timing of my phones scroll function.
It is clear who Shining Armor believes to be the more dangerous.
6679818
I think you got the Undead Power and Living Quality backwards for lich and death knight. Liches tend to be skeletons or rotting, Death Knights don't. Liches tend to be the mage to the Death Knight's warrior, so Liches would have more Undead Power than Death Knights.
7283782
I don't think so, Death Knights are rather the dark twins of the Paladins. While most of their attacks involves their rune weapons, they can use runic power, so they too have some necromantic magic like death coil or death and decay. And they have their own skills to fight against casters like strangulate, mind freeze and anti-magic shell and the anti-magic zone. If both the lich and the death knight would be at the same level i think a death knight would win given their more armor and stamina, their anti-caster tricks and about blink i only say death's grip could be a good counter and death knights too could summon (ghoul), if they enough high in terms of level they can use the army of death, summoning a bunch of ghouls (beside the already existing) for a minute given or take.

You are correct, for the most part.
Generation 3 Death Knights were designed almost specifically for fighting casters, what with their inherent strengths against the arcane. While most necromancers and warlocks would be easy pickings for an experienced Death Knight, liches are... well, they’re monsters.
While their arcane and frost spells could be negated in their majority by anti-magic shells and shields, many of the Death Knight’s most powerful weapons, lorewise, would be next to useless against a lich.
Strangulation requires a throat to squeeze, so that incantations cannot be uttered.
Liches don’t have throats.
Mind Freeze requires a brain to debilitate.
Liches lack organic brains.
Also, liches are, for the most part, necromancers.
They’ve most likely dealt with, and quite possibly have risen Death Knights. Knowing how an enemy is literally put together would give a prepared lich an extreme advantage.
Combine that with the fact that any lich is most likely never alone, and the Death Knight might not even be able to get close to the lich before he is ripped to shreds by waves of ghouls and zombies.
And THEN he has to deal with an immensely powerful sorcerer with spells that would make even a skilled cryomancer shiver.
And if said lich was Kel’Thuzad himself... well...
Gods help our poor, insignificant Death Knight...
He designed them, after all...
He would know better than anyone on Azeroth how to take them apart...
I'd
