Somehow I fail to see why this is supposed to be dark/gross/whatever. Trees are living things too, and fruit is the ultimate pacifist food, given as an offering by the tree in exchange for planting its seeds. Unlike directly eating the seeds of other trees, or the entire body of a carrot or something. These trees really are like family members. The ponies take care of them, and they take care of the ponies.
