Caddy Finz

We're screwed and life will never get better...but in the meantime, get your free pony garbage over here!

E

A few years ago, Equestria and Earth intertwined and crossed paths. Goods and ideas were soon exchanged between the two neighboring worlds, one of these goods being automobiles. After months of saving up their bits, the girls decide to check out Flim Flam Brothers Used Autos that just opened for business in Ponyville. Will they get a good deal and find just what they are looking for or will it end up being a classic case of buyer's remorse?

Rated Everyone. Appropriate for all ages. Credit for the cover goes to Aquaticsun on Deviantart.

I've always wanted to write a story about the girls visiting Earth for a vacation and Rarity buying a car for them to travel in. :duck:

6178115 Hey that sounds like a pretty neat concept  I would read something like that.

6178167

Oh I know. the issue isn't the ideas, it's the time and motivation to create something. :ajsleepy:

Well if I had to decide what the mane 6 were going to drive it would be the following -

Twilgiht - Tesla, seriously, the name alone would be perfect for her.
Rainbow Dash - Mustang. You know, a need for speed.:rainbowdetermined2:
AppleJack - a Ford Truck, What cowgirl wouldn't drive one.:ajbemused:
Pinky - A google car. You know the ones that drive themselves. I don't know if I'd trust Pinky to not get distracted. I think I would trust the computer on this one.:pinkiegasp:
Rarity - a Lincoln Continental. I don't know that car always sounded like a Lady's car.:raritystarry:
Fluttershy - a Hummer. She would be like a soccer mom to her animals.:flutterrage:

6179518 Those are some interesting picks, friend :trixieshiftleft: I think I have a few ideas for whom gets what vehicle in the next chapters but I'm certainly open to suggestions. :rainbowkiss: No spoilers though :raritycry:

Can someone tell me why I keep getting so many downvotes? I thought I was a decent writer but all these dislikes I've been getting is very discouraging.

6211676

In a word? Shipping. A lot of people don't like unusual pairings, and if they're not expecting it in a story, they can get upset. Don't get discouraged; I've read some great fics on here that have a surprisingly high red bar up top. The story is funny and wonderfully silly, and I like the tension between the brothers. Keep writing if it makes you happy, because a lot of people are too shy to leave a comment even if they like the fic

6390906 Yeah I guess I can see how that particular part may receive mixed reactions either positive or otherwise. I like to try to create new, original things like a pioneer of sorts. Sometimes, it just turns out that some unexplored things are best left as such. I'm sure this will look a little better once I get my cover done and I get more chapters out. I'm waiting for the artist I hired to finish before I release the next installment. Thanks for your input

6540862 Yeah I'm starting to really see how seriously people take it :rainbowhuh: Honestly though, the thing between AJ and flim is just going to be confined to chapter 2 :ajsmug: So It's not really even going to go anywhere enough to really count as "romance" The story is mainly going to focus on the car they buy and how they end up liking it or not. :trollestia:

Being that I absolutely love Station Wagons, (I have a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis as a summer car) I approve. :twilightsheepish: I hope Rarity has an interest in maintenance or has a friend who is, I wouldn't want to see that Wagon messed up like so many nice new cars I see ending up in disarray! (really, I've seen cars under 7 years old with bare metal exposed and not even as much as touch-up paint on them. And that's not even speaking for maintaining the engine, transmission, differential or anything else.)

I found this chapter to be funny. I haven't driven a 1996 Roadmaster with that Corvette engine in it but I do know wagons are incredibly cozy cars for road trips and with that engine I only can guess how fast it can accelerate. Towing package, roof rack, cozy seating... It's awesome stuff IMO.

6179518

I'm soooooooo interested in wagons, I'd think Fluttershy would be more into getting an older wagon than rarity E.G. 1988 Ford Country Squire with towing package and roof rack. A decent conditioned one shouldn't cost much more than $2,500-$4,500 USD at this time, I got my 1990 Mercury for $2,500 + transfer fee... Plus the new radiator, thermostat, radiator cap, etc I had to put on after I messed up the drain plug...

As for Applejack, maybe a 1970s/1980s truck that's been maintained well. Some of those older trucks are literally cheaper on fuel than newer ones (24 MPG HWY vs. 12ish, I kid you not)

I agree with what you think Twilight and Rainbow would choose. As for Pinkie, don't question her. She'd find a way to make an ice cream truck work too.

6542490 I'm really glad that you're enjoying reading this  I think I have some ideas as to what I want to rest of them to get :trixieshiftleft: :trixieshiftright: The Rainbow Dash Chapter is next :rainbowdetermined2: Let's see how it works out for her :rainbowderp:

Amusing chapter. Hopefully A.J. knows what fuel to use and what to not use.

Come to think of it if the truck were modified it could run on fuel made off the farm...

Bit of a typo there? I think you mean Flim who dozed off? It says "Flam" and then goes off saying "Flim" all of a sudden.

That bus is quite the worn out thing, isn't it? Eh, considering its size it does fit Fluttershy since she can (probably) fit the bear in it. Kinda glad you mentioned a Caprice Wagon here, that's what my Dad had. (late 1980s Estate.)

And yeah, nice that Flim and Flam are being considerate about Fluttershy's purchase of the bus which sounds like this song you may know:

(song starts after a minute, first minute's of a man metal detecting for his car)

6542984 Thanks for pointing that out  All taken care of

6542960

I say that because there is such a thing as Biodiesel, which I hope to use in a 100% batch with my 1999 Suburban. These newer Diesel vehicles can only run up to so high of a percentage of it though, when stock. Ironically, Biodiesel lowers emissions (that's not the ironic part) and at least some of the reason why 100% Biodiesel doesn't work in a 2009 Diesel is because of the exhaust system which is made to lower emissions, isn't compatible with the thicker fuel.

Also, (Some) Biodiesel (depending on what it's made from) gels up like olive oil at a higher-than-freezing point.

6543063

You're welcome. I thought I saw something like that in Chapter 2, like "be" instead of "me" or vice-versa.

BTW, I hit the like button for this fanfic and favorited it. Thank you.

6543180 I appreciate that very much  See, I know very few other bronies who are into cars and I figured that writing a fic like this would be a good way to not only make people laugh but get a hold of people who are also passionate about autos :raritystarry: On that possible typo in chapter two, I'll scan around and look for that and correct it when if and when I find it. :derpytongue2: I can't stress enough, when people see mistakes, they are doing me a favor by pointing it out :unsuresweetie: Thanks a lot and I'm confident that you will enjoy what I have coming up next :pinkiecrazy:

p.s.- I'm digging that "rusty Chevrolet" song lol

Warning: This comment contains numerous spoilers.

SPOILERS. (Got that from a loafdaddy video.)

Fluttershy the Mechanic. We could use more of this. Good thing that's a manual transmission instead of automatic or she'd be in short order of buying a new transmission!

And I'm glad Rarity is maintaining her car... Cosmetically at least. Maybe Fluttershy will be Rarity's mechanic too. Maybe Fluttershy will learn about actual automotive lubricants made from vegetable oils; they do exist, check out "Renewable Lubricants" on Amazon if you're interested. Since, well, Fluttershy seems the tree hugger type - not speaking for her friend here exactly but you know what I mean, right?

>2013 Ferrari Convertible

First thought given the title of the chapter: This is going to end like so many Corvettes rear-ending Semis, isn't it.

Typo right after the car's introduction: "You like what you see, Miss Dash?" Flim asked." <-- Extra quotation mark.

"Time to take this beast off road!" Rainbow Dash beamed.

This already sounds like she's going to drive it off a cliff.

"Awww yeahhh, Gasly Gorge, here I come!" Rainbow Dash shouted.

... No comment.

"Hmm, I wonder if this thing flies any faster." Rainbow said to herself.

*Flim, Flam, R.D. conversation about the car on fire followed by Rainbow Dash ending up as employee*

It speaks for itself.

The mental image of Rarity wildly hooning about in a mahoosive wagon brings me joy like you don't even know.

Fluttershy would wind up with either a VW Hippie van or a school bus, so this works well. :rainbowkiss:

Also, I like that Flim and Flam are actually going legit. I suspect they have a few more lessons to learn.

"Cars don't fly."
"But doesn't it have a Pegasus pony as a hood ornament?"
"No, you nincompoop! Just a prancing pony! And even if it did, why would that make it a flying car?"
"Uhhh..."

Oh Dashie, you thick-skulled, think-last, fly-fast dipshit.

:moustache: I'm Raritys new driver
:duck: Just think what you can do in the back. . . .:moustache::raritywink:
:twilightoops: wut?
:moustache: I drive a YuGo:facehoof:

Roadmaster eh? You can even haul bodies in it! :pinkiecrazy:

You just can't properly advertise a Ram without Sam Elliott's voice. Rrraam.

6561870

Yeah, I figured a VW Van myself, but hey, Fluttershy can always paint it white and put flowers all over it. Turn it into the happiest (steaming pile) aminal transport evar. Although if she's serious about hauling Harry around she may have to take out a back seat and he may want to lose a few pounds. Not sure if he'll fit through the emergency exit. :yay:

Oh Dash, if you were just going to crash the thing you should have went for a suped-up Civic.

Spoilers be ahead.

>"Ohhh, well working too hard can give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack!" On first read I was thinking "What? 'Mars Attacks!' or that song by the Urinals?"

>Rainbow Dash sang Billy Joel to herself as she polished the fenders of a Cadillac. "You oughtta know by nowww!"

"Oh."

>Over all,

Should be "Overall" in this case.

>There were few things in life that Rainbow Dash felt were worth spending a lot of time learning about but she had found quite the interest in cars as of late.

Well, good for R.D.

Not mentioning how Pinkie showed up in this comment but good way for Pinkie to show up.

>Once again, Rainbow Dash used he stress ball

Her.

>1963 Peel P50 car

Sounds about right for Pinkie.

"Pinkie gave Rainbow Dash a taste of her signature confection ammunition and then proceeded to peel out and tear off down the street. With anypony else behind the wheel, the car would never squeal a tire and would go no faster than thirty-five miles per hour. Pinkie on the other hoof, was a force to be reckoned with and once again proved that with her around, anything is possible. Rainbow Dash just sat there in a heap of frosting and chunks of cake as Pinkie sped away at twice the car's specified top speed."

Clearly Pinkie put Cake in the fuel tank and it liked it.

I dunno, maybe it's just me but this one felt a teeny bit off for Pinkie being in character. Or if that's not it then what is it? Descriptions of Pinkie and the interaction between Pinkie and Rainbow Dash? It's like, in the show it never quite has been quite so abrupt and direct speaking of Pinkieizing things - and I don't mean the car, I mean speaking of Pinkie's no-logic life - speaking of it. Still, it is a decent job at this chjapter IMO.

seriously I would have her take a Rolls-Royce Wraith lol :rainbowlaugh:

6211676 idk either, maybe it's the way your storyline is flowing. anyways anyone who dislikes this are complete a**holes :flutterrage:

I like that you included images of the cars you talk about in the story! It helps a lot!

LOL this is exactly why we have all the problems on the road today. idiot kids who don't know how to drive besides going fast with NO CONTROL.

"I...BELIEVE I CAN FLY LIKE A BIRD IN THE SKY..."
oh really? :unsuresweetie:

6584870 LOL thanks for your support  In the beginning, this story actually had a couple more dislikes than it does now but they've somehow gone :rainbowhuh: Ever since I put the cover on it and started inserting images of the cars, the story became a lot more popular :raritystarry: I was discouraged at a point because there was a time when this had 5 dislikes and only 6 likes :fluttercry: Not a very good ratio as far as I'm concerned :facehoof:

6582532 Thanks for your thoughts on this one :yay: I read a few fics where they mentioned Pinkie's logic or rather her complete lack thereof :pinkiecrazy: and kinda thought it'd be fun to try myself. :trollestia: This one particular story that inspired me (MLP:FML by Maniac92) even features Pinkie talking to the author right in the middle of some of the chapters. I would highly recommend checking that one out, by the way.

ps- I'll be fixing those typos you addressed. Thanks

6587136

Yer wel-come! :applejackconfused:

6585988

Admittedly I found the fanfic because of the art. "Oh, Rarity next to a Station Wagon? I'll check it out... Oh, it's fanfic art. Maybe I'll read the fanfic."

6590927 See? Having a cover makes a lot of difference. I had two chapters out and then finished the third but I held onto it and didn't release it until the cover was done. Figured releasing any new chapter WITH the cover would help. It actually worked out quite well

:twilightsheepish:Spike Spike?
:moustache: Back here Twilight
:duck: You can do so much in the back of a station wagon!
:twilightoops:Wut!?!

:moustache::raritywink:

I rather like the flim-flam shipping. It's done rather well here. Not full on love, just mild beginnings of something that could possibly turn into something. Also it made it that much more amusing.:raritywink:

Dammit, Dash.
Also Fluttermechanic is awesome.

For one horrifying moment I was worried you would put her in a Prius.

...and then enough rust-eaten turbodiesel Rabbits to fill a junkyard (all heavily painted with black primer of course) come swarming into town together - flagrantly ignoring any and all traffic regulations, rolling coal like there's no tomorrow, and generally causing mayhem. Probably doesn't take many guesses who's driving them, either. :-P

(Also, let me guess, Big Mac would end up driving a big Mack? :rainbowlaugh:)

6595785 Whoa there, I wasn't shipping Flim and Flam together :twilightblush: I was just getting the brothers to bond for once. I don't do those kind of shippings lol I may have shipped Flam with Rarity or Flim with Applejack but not two brothers together

First thought upon reading the title: Oh, that works out. Second thought: Toyota also made trucks; however, I still think Twilight wold drive a Sedan or Coupe; maybe a Hybrid.

*If you have something with manual crank window's *

Typo: This isn't the place for hyphens in "windows".

(2005 Dodge)

"Oh, I've read about these. They ranked pretty low on safety tests. It's no bad but it, wait...what's all this gunk under the valve cover?"

*not

The Flim and Flam up in the air part caught me by surprise and I found it amusing.

No, obesity wasn't directly caused by cars; it was just part of it.

You made a good choice ending the story here; I don't know if you'll be able to top that chapter title pun. That was so cringeworthy it overflowed back to being not cringeworthy :applejackconfused::pinkiehappy:

6599020 Once again, thanks for sharing your thoughts  And thanks for pointing out the typos :trollestia: I'll start fixing those soon. :yay: I'm so glad you enjoyed reading

6599334 I appreciate that  When I thought of the idea for the chapter title, I thought my writing days would be over because there may be no way to improve from there :raritycry: Thanks for reading and I'm glad you liked it. :rainbowkiss:

I can't believe I didn't clue into Pinkie's choice of car from the title. Anywho... I always figured Pinkie would drive anything weird. Nothing more, nothing less. Sure, the logical choice (in my mind) would be a 15 passenger E-150 but of course, we are not dealing with logic now are we?

How 'bout a follow up where Pinkie buys one of these weird FWD GMC motorhomes? XD
