For all it's worth, I'd say this has been one of the best one-shots I've read in weeks. You've explored Vinyl further from what Slice of Life gave us, while simultaneously adding some more depth to her character. Generally speaking, that's probably the best approach when writing about background characters.

I especially enjoyed the part with Big Mac. It seems that even though neither of them ever said a word the entire time, both of them still got something out of their short walk together. Which can be pretty common in some situations of life. Sometimes, you just don't want to be spoken to, and at that point, a bit of shared silence can be more valuable than any combination of words could ever be.

In short: Loved the concept, loved the story. Have a thumbs up, a favorite, and consider your story a job well done.

EDIT: There is one small thing I noticed

Out of the corner of her eye, she was Vinyl.

Not sure what you're trying to say here, but that sentence ain't right:derpytongue2:

Quite a good story. Couple of things though:

Indeed the actual figure of those present wasn't far off half the Ponyville populous

I think that's supposed to be 'populace'.

Also, you might want to check the spelling of Miss Cheerliee ;)

oh my goodness, this story really did make me tear up a bit! it really did hit home, since I'm mute myself, but I'm really glad to see that there are people who recognize that you don't need a voice to get your thoughts across.

That was a nice oneshot, despite me not liking this mute Vinyl going on lately.
Oh and you misspelled Cheerilee as Cherrilee a few times as said below.
Anyway worth a like for sure

6141614 Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm thrilled you liked it so much. <3 And whoops, I flipped the letters there. It was supposed to be "she SAW Vinyl" XD

6141887 Thank you for the spelling correction. And yeah, I've totally been writing Cheerilee's name wrong for aaaaages. o.o I saw the Cherries and... well. XD

6143022 Vinyl being mute is just one interpretation of her lack of speech in the series (thus far). For all I know she's spoken in the comics and it's totally just a non-canon fan thing. :D I'm glad you were able to enjoy it, with or without Vinyl talking. :D And yeah, apparently I've been spelling (and hearing) Cheerilee's name wrong for a while now. Whoops. :3

6142499 It means a lot to me that you felt a connection to the story. Thank you. <3

This was a really well written and touching one shot. The emotions are carried very well and I loved Vinyl finding comfort in silent company. So many writers forget that it's sometimes what isn't said that is truly powerful. Bravo good sir. Bravo.
