To see the species back again... it brought back many terrifying flash-backs, and in a panic, Luna fired a beam of moonlight, hot enough to melt steel, towards the devilish unicorn- only for a large plant tendril to dart down to block the beam, bursting into ash immediately. Another tendril wrapped tightly around Luna's mane, yanking her head back roughly and causing her to yelp, a warmth growing in her chest.

I'd personally peg them as (sex) slavers given the ability of their webs, not cannibals. At least with Rarity willing to work with them.

Still, yeah, a bit early to say for sure if that fate was 'earned' or not. I'd still say driving them all into hell was excessively cruel, but it might have been a lesser evil type situation.

I also find it ironic that the Nobles have had all these years and still haven't figured out "Ascension". You would have thought that Twilight would have been living proof as to what was required to Ascend-- something that not a single one of these Nobles even possess.

Kind of makes me wonder what would have happened if the Nobles had figured out to Ascend. Did they expect to be able to take control of the Sun and Moon? Did they not realize that Celestia and Luna are one hundred percent the celestial bodies they represent just manifested into pony form?

I'm not really nitpicking, as we all hate Nobles and how they act all better than everypony else. But seriously, these guys need a serious lesson in how the world works. And the first lesson on the agenda is the fact that the ponies they condemned to Tartarus are now the most powerful beings in existence, and pissing them off is not a good idea.

He/She does have a point. The nobles at least need to win a little. If all of their attempts to win are shut down by Twilight's side then it wouldn't be a very good story. This chapter pointed out that Twilight is not a graceful user. Now just have her lose and the bam; watch the fireworks! This fic wouldn't be nearly as good if Twilight just curbstomped the nobles and ruled the planet without any complications now would it?
