I think what happened to Celestia and Luna occurred before the rest of them were banished. Therefore their fate is known to the 'protagonists'. Spike's fate happened after their banishment, so we will discover it along with them.

Well... this appears to throw any chance of things being a little more nuanced overboard awfully quick. But perhaps I'm wrong, there is still story to go after all.
