Ugh, I know that feeling all to well. Except it's usually a fly.
Lotta Hart?
Smart.
Is that right? Well I do sure hope somebody picks up that phone. Because I f*cking called it!
Yeah, no.
Really? A conspiracy to achieve WHAT exactly?
You would make a shitty lawyer. That evidence is shakier than a fucking jello Fluttershy.
Depends. How badly do you want an answer?
Twilight's right you know. Best quit while you're behind.
Really now? Considering said "half sized horse" has faced down a being of immense power who wanted to bring about nighttime eternal at the bare minimum, and could crush you just like that and is going to go on to face SO much worse, you should be.
Ooh! NICE! Minor nitpick, her hair is more dark purple than dark blue.
That's the smartest thing you've done in probably your entire existence.
Which is fair.
Of course.
The idea of Celestia drinking beer amuses me immensely.
Ah yes, Wendy Oldbag. She's, something alright.
OhoHO! This is gonna be fun.
You're very gracious.
Ooh! This should be fun.
I'm sure...
You've been doing this for a while, haven't you?
Naturally, let history take its course.
We are in agreement about that much.
Celestia you clever bitch.
Indeed, wonder how things would have turned out had she NOT?
WHAT?! I swear Firesight, if she was his art teacher, I will be, half amused, half pissed.
I, see.
That's a chilling thought.
She has a point, loathe as I am to admit it.
Yes, the 20th century was one of the bloodier part of human history.
Aye. The World Wars are usually considered humanity's darkest hour.
If only to prevent worse monsters from rising, yes.
It is always darkest before dawn.
Now I want to read about these guys, because Equestria history sounds fascinating. Maybe I SHOULD check out Before The Storm.
And should said plans be disrupted, they crumbled around his armies.
Well now!
You really are wise.
Aye. Always look on the bright side of life.
I gotta say, this is a more interesting history lesson than ANY I've ever had.
Which is a shame because I LOVE the idea of the two of you getting into a battle of wits and oneliners.
You certainly know how to weave a tale around a game of chess.
Indeed it is.
THANK YOU MAYA! Good lord, that was fascinating, but it was DARK.
Troll.
Hopefully Celestia will be able to laugh at herself.
I'm, somewhat burned out on history as my last year of history, or, yearS, were War in the 20th Century with a teacher so dull, uninteresting and boring that I called him Mr Monotone. Sometimes to his face. And the best part is I got away with it scot free. Mind you, he wasn't the only teacher I made fun of, just the one I enjoyed mocking the most because of how BORING he was I had to or else I'd go mad. Good times.
Unfortunately a lot of that sounds like someone much in the news these days...
Getting back to Herr Schicklegruber, I honestly don't think someone unaware of WWII history would necessarily see him as a monster, especially from a still photo. This was my major complaint with the movie Wizards, where the dwarven soldiers stood aghast at what to them would be ordinary humans marching. They didn't share the audience's fear of the Nazis.
Well... This chapter dropped quite a few bombs....
For one, Equestria helped the Allies during WW2 and that Wind Whistler is Twi's ancestor...
And two, I'm honestly surprised Celestia had managed to be in a good majority of Earth's history, (19th to 20th centuries)
I feel like that's a reference to that story I read awhile back... where they found Radioactive waste and ponies started dyin' an shit.
But good show! WWII, I love it... don't know enough tho
Hehehe, also your author's note has got the same thing written twice in it :P

The Writing On The Wall.
8369763
Yeee Dat's it
I'm kind of surprised you didn't light upon the so called Christmas miracle of WW1.
Two thumbs up.
8367591
Sounds like you enjoyed the chapter! Let’s get started on a response...
In this case, a proverbial fly on the wall. Actually, about three weeks ago, I had a group of eight or ten flies in my place, all the same type. I don’t know where they came from but it took a while to hunt them all down with my swatter.
Well, at this point, it’d pretty much have to be her or Franny. But Franny would be a lot less clumsy or obvious about surveillance.
Celestia may troll, but she’s not stupid. She’s not about to let Twilight come over here unprepared.
Indeed you did. I’ll give it to you.
Ultimately? Line her pockets and make her famous. All through the first and second games, Lotta kept fancying herself some bigshot investigative reporter and photojournalist, but she’s actually little more than a wannabe paparazzi.
Yeah, well, she’s not even that good a tabloid photographer. Whenever she appears in the games, you wanna slap her. Actually, Phoenix does once after she insults Maya.
It wasn’t just Phoenix she pissed off. Franny and Edgeworth didn’t have much time for her either.
But the essence of Lotta is, she never does, always chasing the big scoop or splashy photo that’ll finally make her famous.
For a while I considered having Twilight magically strip her and deposit her outside, but a) that wasn’t this kind of chapter, and b) I didn’t think anybody would find that all that titillating.
Thanks! Changed it to indigo, which sounds more flashy than purple. And you know how much Twilight hates being called purple...
And explains why she never appears in the third game. Actually, the reason I think they didn’t bring her back was she wasn’t exactly a fan favorite. Same with Oldbag, who you hated dealing with as much as Edgeworth.
I think so too.
One thing I like about her is her tastes aren’t limited to rich or high-end fare. She can enjoy a burger and beer as much as sushi and sake. I guess she sees no point in being snobbish about such things. Pity more of her can’t rub off on Blueblood.
Something to avoid like the plague.
And educational!
She sometimes trolls, but she’s always accessible and wishes to be pleasant.
In the end, she started coming just to watch humanity develop without feeling she had to shape their future, but after a while, she started getting more attached and into our world, seeing humanity’s potential I daresay even before we really did. She’s good at that, if nothing else.
Her prime directive.
And one that was hardly unique to us, despite what people keep trying to say.
For the answer, check out Harry Turtledove’s alternate history series that explores just that. In it, he takes away the lost orders and the South wins independence for it, meaning that history takes a decidedly ugly turn in the decades and century ahead. What happens? More wars, and worse, the North and South ally with different sides of WW1 and 2, resulting in both conflicts occurring right here in North America to horrific effect. More information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Victory
Give me some credit, my friend...
Left unstated is exactly what she said to him and she retained Equios’ neutrality in the face of Germany’s proximity. Can’t say I know the answer to either right now.
Celestia’s seen plenty of monsters in her own world and at one point nearly became one herself. So yes, she’s quite attuned to such things.
The ugliness of that treaty did much to set the stage for Hitler’s rise and WW2.
If not the bloodiest of all time.
Exactly. And why we sometimes end up supporting people and regimes we’d rather not.
More than once I’ve had to remind myself of that...
You are more than welcome to! He’s a fascinating character, and you’ll learn about the backstories of Firefly and her fellow Bolt Knights as well. As for Gaius, however... his inspiration wasn’t Napoleon. If anything, it was Grand Admiral Thrawn of the Star Wars universe, a military genius who was superb at identifying psychological blind spots of his adversaries and exploiting them to great effect.
Which they actually do once in the first Firefly book. Celly herself puts him in his place quite handily.
Every member of the mane 6 is descended from an original Bolt Knight. My way of tying everything together.
And yet, she’s still not as all-seeing and all-knowing as she likes to think, considering what’s coming...
It’s a gift that people can.
Thank you! I consider that high compliment indeed. I was trying to both teach and entertain, and it sounds like I succeeded!
Which is a shame because I LOVE the idea of the two of you getting into a battle of wits and oneliners.
That would have been fun, I’ll grant, but the chapter was full up by now and it would taken no small amount of research to do this justice.
Again, thank you. Can’t say I’m much good at the game myself, but I didn’t have to be to write this.
Pity her advice goes unheeded by many.
Yeah, sorry about that, but I did want to get one last serious chapter in before the final funtimes.
She wouldn’t be Celly unless she did!
Stay tuned.
I’d much rather study the subject of my own. Even wikipedia makes for much more interesting reading than most textbooks I had to study.
8369020
That was the purpose in writing it! Well, that and resolving the drone issue.
Every member of the mane 6 is directly descended from an original Bolt Knight. My way of tying my stories together.
I wouldn’t say she’s been in it, but has certainly observed it. She doesn’t intervene directly as a rule; she just wants to be able to enjoy herself on Earth without the pressures of ruling a kingdom or trying to guide it, but in certain circumstances she will.
8369279
Yeah, sorry about the author’s note. I fixed it. Hope you enjoyed the history lesson! I tried to write it so you didn’t need to know much about things.
8370381
Hmmm... that’s a good thought, one that didn’t even occur to me, I’m sorry to say. Maybe I’ll retcon it in later. Thanks for the thumbs-up!

I cannot blame you. As someone who lives in the country, kinda, I'm used to flies, but that doesn't make them any less, irritating.
So, some credit to Lotta for being SOMEWHAT subtle.
If she were stupid, she wouldn't be the ruler of Equestria.
I see.
Well good on him.
Can't blame them.
Even though that'll likely never happen?
Yeah, the fate she got was SO much more cathartic.
Indeed.
Eh, I saw a playthrough of the first Phoenix Wright game and the guy who voiced her did a damn good Abridged Nappa impression, so that was funny.
Ah well. My personal headcanon is he's not that bad, but the day of the Gala, he had a LONG and frustrating day, and he thought Rarity was just some gold digger, so he did his best to get her to leave him be.
Hm.
I might do that actually.
I do, I just find the idea somewhat amusing.
Perhaps it'd be best left ambiguous.
I'm inclined to agree. I'd say that was humanity's Darkest Hour.
Lesser of two evils and stuff.
I just might. Can't say if I'll do my long commentary or not, but I will give it a look.
Oho!
Weren't the Bolt Knights all pegasi? I figured Twilight was a descendant of Clover the Clever or Starswirl.
Ah well.
I'm not good myself, I only won a game of chess once because my opponent gave up.
I'm inclined to agree.
8370864
Hehehe, I actually knew about most of the WWII stuff, I absolutely love WWII, I need to read up more on it though.
Most of my time studying WWII has been nothing but Nazi related stuff,
Keep it up dude!
8370864
Ah! A fellow WW2 historian, eh?
Here's a few videos I found on Battleships:
8371372
I live in the suburbs, but that doesn’t mean I don’t encounter them.
She tried. And in fairness, she had no idea Twilight could find her or teleport her. Doesn’t excuse what she did, but after she saw Twilight transform and then watched as she and Phoenix disappeared, she honestly did think they were being invaded by aliens or something.
Though that doesn’t mean she’s infallible or can’t be caught by surprise, as she’ll shortly get reminded...
Just imagine if Applejack encountered Lotta! “Well, ya might sound like me, but ya ain’t anything approaching honest!”
She appears briefly in the first Mles Edgeworth Ace Investigations game, and more substantially in the second. But she’s never been seen in the main Phoenix Wright games again.
Hope springs eternal with people like that, always looking for their big break. Who knows, with enough persistence she might finally stumble on something noteworthy, but as Twilight says, she’s shot herself in the foot on that score just by having been involved in so many past hoaxes.
I’m big on comeuppances. And last but not least will be Celly’s turn for one...
They voiced her like abridged Nappa? Okay, that’s kind of funny... and strangely appropriate.
Not a bad interpretation. Over in Five Star Service, Blueblood will be heard from in later chapters. I put a rather interesting twist on him and made him a good guy, his insultingness and insufferability limited to those he dislikes. He has a sharp wit and can bring it down like a hammer.
Speaking of Five Star Service, have you been reading it still?
I’ve got all the books and heartily recommend them.
Think I’ll agree with that.
Thanks. Long commentary or no, I look forward to your opinion of the story. The sequel will launch September 1st.
No joke. It’s VERY satisfying when it happens.
She’s descended from Clover, but Clover far preceded the Bolt Knights. She’s just further back in her lineage. Inter-tribal relationships between unicorns and pegasi/earth ponies were rare back then but still happened. So there’s some pegasi blood in her as well. Meaning she and Phoenix could well become parents to a pegasi when they finally decide to have foals.
8371905
Thanks for the videos! Around here, we have the Battleship North Carolina naval museum in Wilmington, so I don’t have to go to far to see the same thing...
And yes, I’m definitely an amateur historian of sorts. WW2 is one of my favorite topics to research.
8379077
Flies are an utter nuisance.
And that isn't an absurd assumption to make considering magic does exist in the world of Phoenix Wright.
True enough, having flashes of the future does not equal being able to see EVERYTHING.
That sounds about right.
My guess, there just wasn't anything they could really DO with her, and she wasn't that fun to work with, so they just cut her out.
Shot herself in the foot? At this point she has taken a Death Star blast to the foot!
This should be fun.
I can try to find the link again, but I can't promise much. Fair warning, it is a 7 hour stream so, there's that.
Sounds fun.
I'm saving it for a plane trip, gonna open a couple chapters of it so I have enough for the trip.
Huh, good on ya.
Nothing Is Scarier is a trope for a reason. There are some things that are best left ambiguous because the imagination of the readers makes it a lot more interesting than if you just explained the whole thing.
Sweet.
I believe you.
I suppose that's fair. I suppose that after so much time has passed, it's very rare for a pony's lineage to be purely one race. Possible? Probably. But likely? Far from it.
8379077
WHAT.
We will already have Trucy to deal with, mate. Doesn't seem like a good idea.
(Al it takes for evil to triumph is for good men, and ponies to do nothing.)
8419754
And vice-versa. Celestia makes that point herself in the latest chapter.
8419847
Nope. Captain. First Captain of the Wonderbolts and the subject of two other stories of mine.
8419914
We miss you, Billy Mays... you were one of a kind.
8420055
Damon Gant. One of my favorite Ace Attorney villains!
8420103
We’re getting close to rolling credits on the story! You arrived with only three chapters left...
Thanks for the comments, and the fave! Looks like you blew through both Turnabout Storm and this story in the space of about a week, which is certainly impressive. Well done, and glad you’ve liked it!
Wow... I gotta say, you captured Celestia so well, I almost believed that she was there. Though, I kinda wonder what her comment would've been if she were to see the struggles of America today... too bad she isn't real to say it herself. But anyways, fantastic work!
8809743
Sorry for not responding sooner. Thank you very much! Even though this isn't an adult chapter, it's actually one of my favorites in the entire story. What would Celestia say about America today? That for all our 'struggles' we don't know how good we have it and she it finds it very troubling and disharmonious at how many people seek to emphasize our differences over our common values and drive us apart instead of uniting us.
