I Brained My Damage

T

The year is 2027, and the world as we know it is torn apart by war between Russia and the United States of America. The Russian government had hired the country's top scientists to develop a transporter that would grant them access to a safer, more peaceful place. Join Andrei Solovyov, a Russian physicist, as he wakes his final day as a citizen of Earth, and as he meets somebody who he would have never expected.

Very special thanks and shout out to Coal Buck for allowing me to use one of his characters. Tags and other things may change as the story progresses. Rated teen for mild language (some gore), and all copyrights go to rightful owners.

*NOTES BEFORE READING*:
Russian talking to Russian = English text
Russian talking to himself = English text
Russian talking to English = Russian phonetics
A " *** " will be placed as necessary to show readers where English is being changed to Russian phonetics and vice versa.

"The world as we know it is torn apart by war between Russia and the United States of America"
[insert sarcasm here]
Well, that's realy original. No one's ever heard of a story about a Russia vs the US. :ajbemused:
[Deactivating sarcasm]

I have one major question for this story; Why in God's name are you writing out phonetic Russian? There's so little point to it if you're going to just translate it for us. Can't it just be established that the character isn't speaking English? Russian was meant to be written in traditional Cyrillic, and this is coming from someone who's taken classes on the language. The end result just looks... offensive... like you've just used Google translate. If you didn't and tried to write out the language yourself, then good for you, but the effort really isn't needed.

And the first chapter just seemed so stereotypical. Why the Hell would a guy be shaving his face with a sharp knife in 2027? No one does that now. Just because he's Russian doesn't mean that he's a burly motherfucker that drinks vodka for breakfast. Also; I'm pretty sure that no one uses the Romanovs as objects of curses in Russia. That'd be like an American cursing the Kennedys.

In the end, please do your research. Russia is a beautiful country with a rich, expansive culture that really shouldn't be trivialized in such a way. Yes, we all know that Putin is a pretty messed up president, but that doesn't make the rest of the population a bunch of psychotics.

I was wondering what character you were going to borrow i thought like a back ground character but no you went and got the main dude

good on ya

Tracking this one, looks promising:pinkiehappy: I love humans in equestria stories, and this is an interesting one

577314 I have not heard of a story that has that, but I know of the Cold(Did you mean: A ton of awesome planes) War.

577314
My thinking cap wasn't on straight when I thought of this... :applejackunsure:

577349
Well, not to go on the offensive, but it's a fic, dude. (Anything can happen?) And I believe I mentioned the shaving thing to be a family tradition, I didn't mean to be stereotypical at any point in this story. The only reason I tried Russian phoetics was just to show the speech differences between him and everybody else; because what would make more sence, this (random example from nowhere):

"What do you even mean? I can't understand you!" Solovyov said.
"All you're saying is random phrases I can't recognize!" said the undescribed man.
or this:
"(insert phonetic here about something)," Solovyov said.
"All you're saying is random phrases I can't recognize!" said the undescribed man.

But back to the stereotype thing. As some say, one person doesn't create the crowd.

*Getting off my soapbox*

577508 Eh, it's not a bad story. It's just that writers, tv show directors and game makers (COD Black Ops, Modern Warfare, MW2, MW3) have been using that same premise for ages.

577508
Yeah, yeah. I'm not faulting you or anything based on your decisions. I mean, you can do whatever you want. However; you can still have the character speak in English and make it clear through the narrative that the languages are different.

Still, I'm pretty biased in the end. Sorry that I went off on a tangent :fluttershysad:

577538
It's fine, I try to view everything as constructive criticism. And besides, In the next couple of chapters, I'm going to make an event occur that will probably be to your liking (and everyone elses' as a matter of fact...). No spoilers, though. :rainbowkiss:

URA! Menya tovarishch great story ochin korocho the only story where these amerikansy haven't made Rossiya seem plohoi. I expect more!:pinkiehappy:

577314 Nobody has made a story of it, but there have been fucktons of video games about it. You probably got the two confused.

LIVE SOLOVYOV! YOU MUST LIVE FOR THE GOOD OF RUSSIA!

i have found at least six new stories to read today, so it might take a while for me to read this. but it looks really good, ive only read human stories with americans.

Also, Russian bronies for the fuckin' win.

577507
TEEEE NINETYYYYYY

It can swim also. Or more like, walk underwater.

The year is 2027. It's a time of great innovation, and technological advancement. It's also a time of chaos and conspiracy. I don't even know whose side I'm on.

Ooh... the adventures of Google Translate in Equestria, I see :facehoof:

You should be commended for your effort, and some trivia such as messed-up word endings and odd sentence structures surely are forgivable, but the last bit just doesn't make sense. 'I' (the pronoun) and 'eye' are homophones in English only, they're not even close in Russian, so the guy wouldn't be pointing at his eye, he would just point at himself. Then, I probably wouldn't be able to deduce at all that the 4th gesture is 'like', but again, the funny thing is that 'like you' can't be used in the meaning of "same way as you do" in Russian - there are analogs, but let's just say that the literal translation of 'like' is absent from them.

Overall, the whole scene kinda looks like attempts at communication of a person who could speak English just fine, but suddenly became mute. Personally, I'd have settled for some simpler and more expressive gestures))

Not to mention that even today, a city-dweller who can't utter a few basic phrases in English - now THAT is a fictional element. And he's a scientist, for Christ's sake!

577763 So, you've never read The Hunt For Red October? Cold War? Brothers Under the Skin? All stories about either the cold war or the aftermath of the cold war turning into a real war.

The year is 2027, and the world as we know it is torn apart by war between Russia and the United States of America.:facehoof: Yeah... Russia vs U.S.A. I'm so bored of this. I shall read though.

I shall read though.577763 I've actually read a few stories that follow this U.S.A vs Russia thing, I didn't finish them because they were terrible but I'll try and find them for you.

You and damn cliff hangers:twilightangry2::flutterrage: hurry up and update

607678
I'm going to be updating asap. I currently have two projects to work on from school, along with final exams next week. Though, I'll probably be writing the next chapter this weekend. Just expect a new chapter to come around sometime near the end of this weekend or sometime next week.

607691 k good. Can't wait to see what happens next

Let me know if you find any grammar mistakes please.

I am confused so there are 2 Russians

622559
If you read earlier, Alexander is [was] a German, and a friend of Solovyov.

Please write more, please...

623456
May take a little while, but the next chapter will be here eventually. :rainbowdetermined2:

To all of those wondering where the hell I've gone:
1. School is almost over (3 days left)
2. And I'm learning this on piano: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZZNDiU9ljw
My goal is to try and nail this within the next year, so some of my free time is going towards that.

The next chapter will be out soon, not sure when, but soon.

Sorry for the long wait... stupid finals...

All hail the mighty internet gods for this glorious day!

...

Я решил для того, чтобы быть огромным показуха, я собираюсь ввести этот комментарий на русском языке. Спасибо интернету,

EDIT:

Wait... usually, humans arrive in Equestria through death.

Everyone in the lab died.

2+2=4

Oh god.

What u gonna do with coal gone:fluttercry:

Poor guy, he could've at least been allowed to finish his ice cream!

682633
i just realized
America and Russia would never go to war for one reason
the sheer amount of nukes would either kill everyone, or blow up the world
also, good story
finally, are you looking for some OC's?

684643

Well... maybe. It's a possibility. I'll just see how this story turns our first.

Ooooooo- i am half russian and i like this story so ill track and favourite :rainbowkiss:

So up at the beginning you wrote "moo" instead of "moon" but that's the only painfully obvious thing I could find. Great chapter nonetheless, and on a side note, that tree must've been pretty far away if it took ten minutes of continuous walking to get to it.

Very first line, you typed, the starts shone like-
should say stars. Good chapter,:pinkiehappy:
