And Applejack has no idea why he hides during heat season?
I'd normally consider that there was a chance that he had only heard of estrus, and so didn't realize that most mares [fill this space with whatever method of heat-control you think a magically-advanced society with medicine and alchemy might possess], and thus spent his time hiding out of fear of something that didn't happen the way he thought it did. But Big Mac has experienced the mares gunning after him before, so I have no idea what's going on. I'm going to bet it involves embarrassing him at some point next chapter, though.
