"Cool, I've always wanted to go to the moon!" My exclamation caught Nightmare off guard slightly, as her horn stopped glowing for a moment.
"You are a rather simple creature, aren't you?" She asked disdainfully, "To think that one such as you could be considered a threat should be laughable, but I cannot leave anything to chance. My night shall last FOREVER!"
I covered my ears in pain "Gah! Learn some volume control, Jeeze!"
"Don't worry little creature, where you're going will be very quiet." Her horn began glowing again.
"Go ahead, send me to the moon!" I said with a grin, "You may be the night, but I am the moon!"
Nightmare Moon shook her head, "Disregarding that ridiculous statement, I'm not sending you to the moon. I'm sending you into the sun, to give my wretched sister some company." A twisted fanged grin stretched across her muzzle, "Though I'm not sure how much company a roasting corpse will be."
"NOPE!" I yelled suddenly, bolting for the door. I sure as hell don't want to go to the sun - at least with the Moon I could probably just fly back down!
...Okay, stupid thought I know. Several hundred thousand miles or so is still a bit much. I was in panic!
I made it out the door Nightmare foolishly left open, ran through the castle, and continued out into the forest fairly quickly, Nightmare's laughter following me the whole way. "Jeeze.. I can't believe it was that easy.." I wheezed, "Okay, wow, I need to run more often.."
"A pathetic escape attempt, for a pathetic creature." Wait what?
The forest around me melted away, being replaced by the same dungeon I was previously in, with Nightmare Moon looking rather smug. "Wut?!"
"You haven't figured it out? You're asleep, you fool. By the time you wake up, you shall already be in the Sun." She gloated before blasting me with a magic beam.
"Gah!" I woke up in a cold sweat.. No, wait, it's a warm sweat. Really warm, who left the oven o- oh...
"Well I must admit, I am surprised to see another end up here." Celestia commented with a raised brow. "And shocked to find another capable of withstanding the full might of the sun."
"Uh.." I looked around in confusion, noticing nothing but fire around us. "The sun's core is solid? Huh, I thought it was just gas." I stood up, trying to peer into the distance
Celestia inclined a brow elegantly, "Why in Faust's name would the sun be made of gas?" She shook her head, a limp pink mane following her movements. "That is simply ridiculous."
"The only thing ridiculous around here is... uh.." I scratched my head slightly, noting the manacles clanking slightly. "Well I had something clever, but I lost it. So.. These manacles?" I asked, phasing my arms though them and allowing them to clank to the fiery ground. "Seriously, why don't those melt?"
If Celestia was shocked, she hid it very well. "They were made specifically to hold me, meaning that they can resist Sun's heat."
I rolled my eyes, "So.. Moony thought she could chain me up with chains made specifically for you?" I wondered aloud. "That's.. Pretty stupid." Celestia only shrugged.
"So.. How long have you been here?" I asked.
"Oh, a couple of years or so." She replied easily, "It's a little hard to keep track of time from the sun, though I certainly do miss my tea.. And cake."
Thinking about it, I tried to stea- summon a cup of tea for her, but... Well, it evaporated the second it materialized. Not the tea, well the tea too, but the whole damn cup- poof, up in smoke.
"What exactly was that?" Celestia wondered, having seen the slight puff of smoke. Believe it or not, the flames here aren't blinding or obscuring anything in any way. Speaking of ease of sight, I'm just now noticing I was forced into my normal self.. And my clothes aren't fireproof.
I quickly turned away from Celestia with a slight blush and sat down before answering, "Well I was trying to get a cup of tea here, but it evaporated.
"I see.."
Not wanting questions about why I turned away, or if she saw my blush as I realized my nudity, I quickly shifted back into my griffon form. I turned back to Celestia, and a different set of questions. "So you can shapeshift?"
I shrugged, "Yeah, part of my powers." I think I like this Celestia better than the first one I met. Maybe I should grab Gilda and we can live here. Well, obviously not here-here, I don't think she'd like the sun very much. Well, maybe the sun, but not living on the sun. Lots of open space and I'm sure the winter heating is dirt cheap, but there's really not enough trees, grass, clouds, food, water... oh, and the year-round temperature would probably be a problem for her too.
"Do you have anything else that might help us out of this.. Situation?" She questioned curiously.
"Well.. I can probably get you out of those chains and I can control the sun and moon." I answered slowly, thinking things over. I doubt any Celestia would be very understanding about the ability to steal literally anything, and Shadow and Crystal powers are probably useless here. Hide behind and Cheshire powers are basically useless, aside from the intangibility.
Celestia grinned like an internet troll, "I may have an idea."
Yay it has been revived

as it just updated after so long I rolled the power lottery once to celebrate.
I got meta-time manipulation: user can manipulate of any/all realities, dimensions and universes, whether they are physical locations, such as higher dimensions, heaven or hell, or metaphysical locations such as the dreamworld.
I got really lucky and got op power
9436853
Yeah the Power Lottery is pretty random. Can get a lot of things. I actually rerolled a few times, simply because I got things like Vocifery, Omnipotence, and Transcendant Genie Physiology in the first few rolls. Obviously not things easy to work into a story. "Oh, there's a problem? Good thing I'm basically a god." First one lets them say anything and have it simply become fact. Could say 'I am a god' and would be, or 'nothing can hurt me' and bam. Second is obviously godlike power, and the last one is basically godlike power too.
I also do power lottery rolls when I'm making a villain, enemy, or even ally based off the power lottery thing for this story - The first guy he took powers from, I rolled powers for. I pre-decided to just let him have whatever the first rolls were, which is why the absolute darkness manipulation thing was there.
Don't though worry, John'll encounter more challenges and may or may not lose powers along the way for one reason or another.
Hope you're enjoying the story though
looking forward to more trollage

Amendment - that was what I rerolled after I kept getting things like controlling the heavens and all heavenly beings. Or other things completely incompatible with storytelling.
And yeah, I am enjoying this. While he's still totally OP... it still manages to be quite enjoyable. Like how Discord still kinda works as a character. While it does seem like there's a bit of "power fantasy" going on, the most important bit is that there isn't a moral power fantasy. Or having other characters be simply "so impressed" with how powerful he is. (You know, the common Mary Sue/Gary Stu tropes).
While not the epitome of literary genius, certainly an enjoyable thing to read - which in the end is an admirable goal.
9437121
Trust me when I say I know I'm not a genius in any given aspect
But the main thing here is that I enjoy making the story (Whenever I can get the inspiration out of my occasionally stubborn mule of a muse), and that others can find enjoyment from reading it. Long as even a few people enjoy reading this story, I can feel pretty happy about it.
And yeah, he is still a little OP. It's why he forgets he has certain powers sometimes, etc. Technically, as was pointed out to me before, he could technically use his thievery power to steal a concept like 'Not having an apple' or something and have an apple, or steal godhood, or what have you. It's why I keep that to a minimum, though I have an idea in my head that every time he steals something, the greed within him will grow proportional to the worth of the item stolen. Not saying that that's how it is, just mentioning the idea floating in my brainspace.
Sorry, went on a ramble. Endpoint was meant to be- I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
Edit: Not entirely sure I get what you mean by there not being a moral power fantasy. Also, I wouldn't want people to be instantly impressed with his powers either. I feel like most would be apprehensive at best if they met someone with powers like that.
Oh, oh, Trollesia mode is coming.
Just reread the whole thing and remembered, Baron Umbra (the guy John stole the powers from) had blood constructs. John stole his powers. John technically can make constructs out of blood because ‘why not?’. This seems to have been forgotten.
9437156
By a "moral power fantasy," I mean the kind of Mary Sue story where the character is morally superior to everyone - criticizing everyone, whether friend or enemy, in a way that makes them seem objectively better.
Now, that kind of thing is fine if there is some doubt about the character's own ideas, but what I am talking about usually is the result of an author just inserting themselves as a pseudo-God in the world of MLP. They give a "verbal beatdown" to anyone and everyone and they are always "right."
(Sorry for not clarifying that, as I just made up the term on the spot, pretty much.)
9437682
Ah, yeah that would feel kind of stupid. If I were a self insert, I would definitely not be morally superior. I tend to think in shades of grey on a lot of things.
9437499
Yep, John doesn't have perfect memory. He's likely to forget things at times, like powers he doesn't really use. (To be honest, I almost forgot about that myself.). It may make an appearance later on though.
I have to ask, what did you do to roll the powers? I feel like what I did was wrong, because what I hit makes a ridiculous character.
9438700
Well you can either re-roll the entire set if you get an OP power, or just re-roll that one power. pretty sure that's a matter of personal preference there. There is a set of guideline instructions on the site, if I remember correctly. Different Tiers allowing for certain levels of powers or numbers of re-rolls (Not counting the re-rolls of OP powers like omniscience or omnipotence).
The rolls are pretty much completely random thanks to the button, though with my weird luck I hit a particular op power multiple times in a row when I was rolling things the first few times.
9438709
So, I got the powers the right way, but I never knew about the various ways to nerf yourself, makes alot more sense... thanks for pointing out the various rules and such! Heh, I think a character with the bs power line up of Freedom, White Water Manipulation, and Transcendant Demonic-Undead Physiology would be a tad bit over powered...
9438782
Lol, Transcendent anything physiology is auto-OP
Glad I could help out a bit
9438795
Sooo... I was looking back at the other powers and actually took a look at 'Freedom'... take a look at it, it's A LOT more bs than I originally thought. I was under the impression it was simply 'You can't be held against your will'. Turns out I was wrong
9438865
Yeah, a lot of things are more powerful than you might think at first glance.
I'd take a stab at saying the Freedom power likely keeps you from being held to any rules or restrictions of any kind that you don't want, or something similar? So the rules of reality, life, death, and just about anything else won't apply to you unless you allow it or even if you want to allow it? Just a guess, I haven't actually seen the power page for that one.
Well this is certainly an interesting twist. Xp
I'm so happy that you finally put a new chapter out! please don't stop!
He knows he can steal anything, right. ANYTHING. Be it a key, a soup now, or... I dont know, maybe, NIGHTMARE MOONS POWERS THEM SELF! Seriously, if he wanted to he might be able to do just about anything.
9595379
*Bowl, not now
Keep up the good work!
Your forgetting the blood constructs
9679392
Wouldn't exactly be my first choice of powers to use. Would you want to cut yourself to make a blood construct when you can use shadows or crystals for about the same effect? Besides, for all he knows, the blood would evaporate once its left the body.
One of those powers I would use if someone managed to injure me, but not really before that, if it were me.
Just saying.
9679574
I was just reminding you that you could do that
Sure. It only has so many uses but that doesn't mean you should completely forget about it
Just saying
9680164
Roger Roger, Thanks
(Poor Star Wars )
That's an odd (but still nice) ref to make
(Not) fun fact: my emoji keyboard for the comment section is broken
I only see about half of them
The other half is off screen
The 'first' one I have access to is
But just barely
I can literally only see half of it
(And tilting doesn't help)
9680538
Ah yes, the expressionable half board, I get that issue on the as well on my phone...
9680690
Good to know I'm not the only one
Lol.
any idea when we can expect an update and new chapter?
More?
any idea when we can expect an update and new chapter?
9680690
Hey! So uh... Would it be possible to see an update to this one? At first I was like 'meh', but now it's carefree and directionless enough for me to actually like it. Please sate my burning curiosity as to how Celly and 'Jet' get out of this one! ;]
