I did a bit of research on alligator mating, though.
Alligator mating involves a wide array of visual, physical, and possibly olfactory experiences, which vary from mating session to mating session.
Apparently, alligator males bellow loudly to attract females, and females approach them to initiate the mating session.
The male and female then engage in snout contact, and attempt to drag each other underwater. At that point, they make sounds that resemble coughs.
Either can attempt to swim under the other's head and blow bubbles under them in an act of stimulation.
Mounting and riding occurs throughout the whole session. After a period of mounting, the male rolls over for the actual copulation.
Dominant males have been observed to court and mate with more frequently than submissive males.
Most of this mating behavior has been observed only in captive alligators in the 1900's and after. Observing a full mating session up till copulation in the wild is difficult and rarely managed, and there are few records of these observations before the 1900's.
