Battle 2: Applejack VS Rainbow Dash
NOTE: I think I should mention something. When you suggest matchups, if I don't like the particular matchup but like the idea of using one of the characters in a fight, I may use that character in a different battle that wasn't directly suggested. This is unlikely to happen, however, as I will only do it if I consider the matchup a bad one, but have a great idea instantly for a fight for one of the fighters.
This probably won't happen; this is just a just-in-case warning in case it does, sort of like buying a fire ladder in case your house catches fire, even though it likely won't.

There are a lot of pony rivalries around Equestria, some more focused on than others.
Such as the longtime bickering between Applejack, the earth pony farmer...
And Rainbow Dash, the pegasus Wonderbolts wannabe!

Born and raised right here in Ponyville, Applejack is a farmer at Sweet Apple Acres, a family business that supplies apples and apple products to various places.
She's physically the toughest of all the mane six, and definitely in the top 5 strongest characters on the entire show! Now that's one tough cookie!
Applejack has the natural raw power that comes with being an earth pony, but that was just a headstart for her. After years of applebucking, her bucking legs have become powerful enough to shatter solid wood with just one kick from one leg.
Too bad her front legs have to suffer. She doesn't use them for bucking, so they're a lot weaker.
Not only does AJ have skill in bucking, but also in rodeo events. One of her best weapons is a simple rope, tied into a lasso. She has absolute perfect aim and can produce the rope from out of nowhere.
What is it with ponies always having access to rope?!
Well, for Trixie she just used magic, but I'm not entirely sure where Applejack keeps her rope...maybe in her hat or something?
She's also apparently a heavy girl, as she once landed on what was basically a seesaw with Rainbow Dash on the other end, and sent her flying practically into orbit! ...or maybe Rainbow's just lightweight, I dunno.
Applejack is, more often than not, the straight mare of the group whenever Twilight doesn't fill the role, as she seems to have the least quirks of the mane six. However, she has her moments; when she focuses on doing something she becomes so stubborn and determined she will go several days without sleep to try and accomplish it.
She's stubborn as a mule!
That joke was already used in the show, Arrell.
I don't care, it's still true!
Moving on, while Applejack doesn't have the flight of a pegasus or the magic of a unicorn, she is still a challenging opponent to many. Her endurance and determination are unmatched, at one point even managing to place in every single event in a national rodeo.
And people say earth ponies are boring!

Rainbow Dash is a pegasus pony who controls the weather around Ponyville. While she is often self-centered, she knows when to stop bragging and start working, especially when one of her friends is in danger.
...Sometimes.
She is almost certainly the fastest pony in all of Equestria, even at just her regular flying speed without any fancy tricks and maneuvers.
She can even go Mach 10 and break the visible light spectrum at the same time!
Yes, the Sonic Rainboom. We'll get into that a little later. Anyway, Rainbow loves flying, speed, racing, and most of all, winning. She hates losing more than just about anything.
And when she does lose, she takes it hard. I mean, really hard.
Thanks to being a pegasus pony, one of Rainbow's many skills is controlling the weather.
She can push around clouds, but that's not all! She can also create rain, lightning, and even tornadoes, all without breaking a bead of sweat! And that's just the stuff all pegasi can do; Rainbow has perfected a number of aerial tricks that give her a big advantage in anything that involves moving!
The most memorable of these tricks would be the famous Sonic Rainboom, in which she breaks the sound barrier and the visible light spectrum simultaneously, reaching Mach 10 speeds and creating a gigantic rainbow trail that gives off a brilliant light.
Rainbow Dash is the only pony in all of Equestria who can pull off this trick that we know of, and she's only gotten better over time. The first time she did it, it was a complete accident, but years later she could force it...though it took a lot of practice and failures.
Now, Rainbow can perform the Sonic Rainboom literally on command, even against gravity.
And when stuff needs to be destroyed, she can weaponize the Sonic Rainboom to create a giant explosion that destroys entire barns!
She also appears to have a bit of combat skill; she has a black belt in karate and fights off Changelings with little effort. Rainbow is usually arrogant, smug, and prideful. However, underneath her brash exterior, she truly cares for her friends and would go to any extent to help them.
Though she probably wouldn't admit it.
"What'd I say? Ten. Seconds. Flat."
Alright, the combatants are set! Let's end this debate once and for all!
IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!
Applejack trotted into the field, ready to fight. She didn't have to look far for her opponent, as the cyan pegasus swooped down from the sky and hovered a few inches off the ground, facing her. The farmer pawed the ground and snorted, eager to begin.
Applejack charged, but Rainbow Dash didn't stick around. She flew up into the sky, using the power of flight to her advantage. Applejack skidded to a stop and watched her fly up, teeth gritted. After a moment of thought, she pulled out a rope.
Rainbow flew around the sky for a short bit, looking for the perfect angle. At last, she stopped, turned towards her ground-bound foe, and flew down at her. She didn't see the orange mare twirling a lasso, instead focusing on her dive-bomb. A few seconds before impact, she felt her body be suddenly pulled in another direction, throwing her off.
Applejack pulled on the lasso that she had thrown and caught Rainbow in, pulling the pegasus down to her level. Since the rainbow-maned mare was still confused and disoriented, the farmer began beating up on her with all of her force. She kept up the assault for a short while until Rainbow pulled away, snapping the rope off of her body.
The two began to exchange close-range attacks. Rainbow delivered an uppercut to Applejack's chin, knocking her up, but the farmer turned in midair and bucked Rainbow into the ground with all of her force. Rainbow stood up and tried the same thing, but Applejack caught her legs in her lasso and spun her around before slamming her into the ground. The cyan pegasus, dazed, stood up and flew off before the earth pony could start another assault.
Soaring through the sky, Rainbow grabbed a thunder cloud and flew back down with it. Applejack saw this and began running, avoiding the bolts of lightning Rainbow forced out of it. Aggravated, Rainbow threw the cloud away and began flying around Applejack in circles.
The farmer stopped running, looking at her opponent in confusion. Suddenly, she felt wind forming around her, and she was lifted slowly into the air. She tried to run, but with her hooves off the ground, she couldn't do anything other than flail helplessly. The tornado lifted her higher and higher into the air, until she couldn't even see the ground anymore.
Suddenly, Rainbow burst in, delivering kicks and punches to Applejack as she flew by several times. The farmer could only spin in the air and take the hits, not even able to fight back. Eventually, the tornado ceased, and Rainbow grabbed the weakened earth pony.
Rainbow flew up as high as she could before turning and flying down, a cone of air forming around her before suddenly exploding, causing her to zoom forward at top speed with a rainbow trail behind her. She aimed straight for the ground, crashing into it and creating a gigantic explosion, leaving a rainbow-coloured mushroom cloud.
As the smoke cleared, Rainbow stood proudly as she gazed upon the bits and pieces of Applejack spread around her, grinning smugly.

Applejack may have strong hind legs and be the sanest of the mane six, but Rainbow has flight, speed, training, and a variety of tricks that gave her an advantage.
Plus, while Applejack can buck trees, trees don't usually lift you into the air where you can't do a thing but take the hits and hope for the best!
Rainbow's weather manipulating and achievement of impossible feats easily outclasses a simple farmer's life. Even if she hadn't used that Sonic Rainboom as a finishing blow, Applejack would have likely been killed anyway by falling from that great a height.
Now, all we have to do is sit back and watch the Applejack fans "explode" with anger!
The winner is Rainbow Dash.

Consider these to be virtual reality simulations, where the fighters have the exact same traits, characteristics, skills, etc. as the real characters, except if they have anything against fighting or killing, that bit is removed so they'll actually fight.
Analyze everything about Dash and she's insanely OP. The only way to take her down is mental game. AJ didn't stand a chance, sadly.

Sorry to point this out but...Have Rainbow Dash ever performed a sonic rainboom while carrying another pony? I mean she did catch four ponies with it after she had already built up the speed but performing a sonic rainboom while holding on to a heavy earth pony fighting her and probably hitting towards her wings as she did it? I don't really think that's possible even for RD especially considering the thing about the zigsaw, I mean if Applejack is that much heavier, surely it must be hard to lift her? Anyway everything else seemed appropriate, good job with this one.

Alright first off so that you guys don't get your panties in a knot I'm not a huge fan of Applejack and I don't hate Rainbow Dash, but there are some details here that don't quite add up. Applejack attacking first seems a bit OOC we've seen how cocky Rainbow is so she'd most likely be the first do charge thinking she could easily win the battle. Another thing is this story seems to make Applejack seem like she knows nothing about Rainbow's abilities when in truth she knows Rainbow's abilities quite well, so when she lassos Rainbow and pulls her to the ground she wouldn't just run up and beat Rainbow up she'd know Rainbow well enough to break Rainbow's wings while the blue pegasus was still disoriented, leaving Rainbow grounded and unable to use her best ability which is flight. That's saying that Applejack even pulls Rainbow to the ground instead of yanking her towards herself and delivering a most likely fatal buck to the blue pegasus's skull, but since obviously you guys are huge Rainbow dash fans and don't even consider Applejack's capabilities you didn't think about that. Next "but the farmer turned in midair and bucked Rainbow into the ground with all of her force" Rainbow coming up from that like it was nothing is completely unrealistic a normal pony's buck in real life has the ability to shatter bones and traumatize soft tissue. So now take a pony who exercises their hind legs regularly, her hind legs probably have approximately 3-4 times the strength of a normal pony so that would easily, if not kill Rainbow, do serious damage to her bones and internal organs resulting in multiple bone fractures and serious internal bleeding. Then there was the fact that Applejack stood still while Rainbow started making a tornado. Like I said earlier and it is true that Applejack knows all too well about Rainbow's abilities. Applejack wouldn't just stand there like a rock she'd get the hell out of there. Still if this was more realistic and Applejack had been more realistically analyzed as I said earlier she'd break the pegasus's wings as soon as possible. So honestly try not to be so bias and not analyze other characters as well as you analyze some. Now I'm certain this comment is going to get a surplus of down votes from all you Rainbow Dash fans, but I'm merely pointing out the fact that these writers are obviously a huge fans of Rainbow dash and so don't even give a true thorough analysis of Applejack, so this battle was rather bias and you underpowered Applejack.
Sorry for this seemingly offensive comment, just thought I'd point out a few things and since Applejack wasn't given a fair chance from the extreme Rainbow Dash fans that obviously wrote this fic.
Though let's be honest Rainbow and Applejack would never actually fight to the death the most they'll ever do is get in a small wrestling match also there is no way that Rainbow or Applejack would be that damn happy about killing one of their best friends none of the six would be. Them fighting to the death is not reasonable so this fic should probably also have an Alternate Universe tag if you're going to kill off a bunch of characters. Well now I'm out. As I go to read some other fanfics.
Oh and because I know this is coming. Yes Rainbow dash beat starscream, but the advantage Applejack has that Starscream didn't is that she knows Rainbow dash and Rainbow's abilities whereas Starscream didn't know anything about his opponent other than she is a flying pony, because of this starscream was extremely cocky and thought Rainbow didn't have any surprising abilities, he was wrong. If he had known his opponent he might have tried to take out her wings first, just as Applejack would despite what this fic says.
3249404 That doesn't change that Rainbow Dash still probably has more "combat" training. They definitely did underpower Applejack, but I'd say that it would still be Dash who wins. The fight would be significantly closer, though.
3249404 Before you go badmouthing the writers, you should take into consideration that close quarters combat was added to the fight scene solely for the sake of entertainment. Applejack has literally no way to hit an airborne opponent, rendering all of her usual abilities useless, so a realistic fight would have been completely one sided. Rainbow Dash could have just hovered out of reach for literally as long as she wanted, created a tornado from a distance and then just sat back and watched. Even if Applejack avoided one tornado by some miricle, Rainbow could have repeated the process ad infinitum. Of course, that's assuming she didn't just end it with a Sonic Rainboom right off the bat. This isn't a case of the writers being biased, but of you focusing on the fight simulation over the actual stats of the characters, which is what is actually used to determine the victor.
3482082 This is, of course, assuming that Rainbow Dash would do anything logical or even fight the way she did in the chapter. If we look at canon her first response to nearly every threat, even a dragon, is to fly in close and hit it. This would give Applejack an opportunity to ground Rainbow by either bucking while she closes in or lassoing her to the ground and taking advantage of the, likely, dazed state to tie up or break the wings. This would result in the rest of the match being far more even with Rainbow having more skill but less power in a ground fight than Applejack. It would, at that point, become a match more about luck than anything else since all Applejack needs is one good strike while Rainbow would have to maneuver herself into the correct position to fully take advantage of her higher skill level when deprived of her wings.
In all I think that the above chapter is a very good example of what their abilities would be against each other if they had the exact same intelligence, no knowledge of each other, and a complete deviance to their normal temperaments. In other words, it shows of physical abilities very well but does not take into account the personalities or the strategic/tactical/normal intelligence that they have displayed in the show. Still a very good story just lacking a bit on the mental side of how a fight goes and reads a bit like it was written more by a gamer than a fighter, stats are all that matter.
3249404 This is laughable. Truly it is. Applejack is awesome, no doubt about it. But Rainbow Dash is so much faster, Applejack wouldn't even be able to get a single hit in. The winner would obviously be Dash. In fact, Dash could probably dominate every single other member or the Mane 6 (Twilight putting up the biggest fight. But to use a spell on a pony, you'd have to catch her with it first.)
4722725 unless she uses fireball. the beautiful simplicity if the fireball is that its a tough spell to beat, as fire is extremely destructive. with a direct hit, you do a lot of damage. blocking a fireball is tough, because fire is an A.O.E. weapon. there is a little something called a heat bloom. that means, you don't have to hit her to hurt her, just throw the fire ball in her general direction, and let fire burn. rainbow dash may be able to try to avoid it, but twilight being clever, anylitical and resourceful as she is, she might throw some sawdust, grain dust, or some other fine powdery substance that accelerates the fireball into firebomb status. dust explosion.
