Although it left it, it knew that it was right, it made it down, because it didn't know what's up.

When two guards are chatting they find the conversation shifting from gripes about a centuries' old recruit manuals to matters of magic and energy. The question is, where does all the energy go?

A nice one-shot glimpse into the mind of a bored Royal Guard. Well done.

“Well we do, you know, do a lot. Just that… I think we just get a bad wrap, you know?”

But do take a "do" out. It makes the sentence sound awkward.

I can definitely see a possible sequel: Shining brings up the outdated manuals to the Princesses. Hilarious shenanigans then doth cometh. I wonder if Luna would be funnier than Celestia; the fun must be ensured to be doubled for all!

5658482 Thank ye kind sir, it has been revised post-haste.

Haha this was amusing and made me smile. good work

Luna's manuals would be all logistics, strategy and tactics.

5659083 No im pretty sure that's Celestia's or Cadence's kind of manuals

We saw Celestia's manual.
And why would princess lovey dovey, be more about actual combat than the actual warrior of the princesses?

Celestia's Manual: What we saw here
Luna's Manual: ponified version of Sun Tzu's The Art of War
Cadance's Manual: Maybe a guide to a proper date? Romantic advice?
Twilight's Manual: Unreadable. When Twilight gets around to writing her manual, she will imbued it with enough magic that it will behave like an Elder Scroll. Including the part where if you try to count how many volumes there are, the number changes.

"We do not tolerate our foes access to dark magic, friendship and love are far more powerful forces than any dark magic why would we allow our enemies to have them?" - Luna, The Art of War (Yes it's not from the art of war, but damn would it belong in a pony world art of war.)

5660871 Excerpt from Luna's Art of War, Second Edition, Year 747 AW (After Warming): Though Discord was one of the greatest monsters Equestria has ever faced in it's short history, his methods bear study. He used mind spells and external pressures to split ponies apart. Remember, illusion, though derided as a useless school of magic for a soldier, is powerful. Make your enemies doubt each other and the truth of the world around them. Make them less trusting. Deprive them of the trust that makes a strong, united, and coordinated military force.

That one's a bit long.

The Art of Wars format really does fit Luna.
Straight, Blunt, and To the Point.....also freaking Terrifying in the pony verse.

5660863 Twilight's war manual is unreadable because she wrote it in crayon when she was six, just after overhearing Shining Armor express his desire to join the Royal Guards. If one can bring themselves to look past all the doodled pictures and manage to decipher her messy mouthwriting at that age, it turns out to be a shockingly comprehensive treatise on battlefield logistics, strategy, and tactics.

Assuming you could get it from its current location, supporting one corner of the nightstand in her old room in her parent's home...

5660364 To beat the shit outta Sombra when he returns also im pretty sure there's something about combat in Celestia's it's just that the writer is probably to lazy to put it in. (My opinion of the story:SOMEONE ANIMATE THIS IT'S TO GOOD XD)

Some things to point out to Private Myst. Assuming that alicorns eat more, then Celestia eating five or more times the food of regular ponies is expected. Not only is the magic idea a valid hypothesis, she simply has a larger body. Larger body = need more calories.

One thing to ask is how do the earth pony and pegasus magics mix. One is a power connected to the land, the other to the sky. Perhaps alicorns eat more partially because their bodies are trying to keep these two opposite magics from having a violent reaction to being in the same body. Or perhaps alicorns have specialized dietary needs that deal with the clash of earth and sky; some special nutrient that stops their power from going kaboom.

This is an amusing and well written slice of life story. Well done.

Pegasus magic seems more elemental in general as long as it doesn't get in the way of flight.
Spitfire has fire magic after all.

“Just that… I think we just get a bad wrap, you know?”

It should be "rap" here, not "wrap."

5664979 And I'm a doofus. Thanks for spotting that!

One of your Myst's is a Mist. :P

Amusing story you've got here. :) I like the odd couple play. It works well.

5666926 Oops, fixed now :D Thanks for your feedback!

5667162 No problem. :)

Glad to help! This was a fun, silly story :pinkiehappy:

Great story! Never thought being a Royal Guard could be so... boring.
I loved the dialogue, by the way!

story number 8 is read i will continue onward but before i go...

*throws like and favorite at author

*falls to floor clutching side about the last part

till the next time....

*continues laughing

“Why do we carry spears then?”

“It goes with our armour.”

This got me to burst out laughing. Sure, they give you spears because they match the colour of your armour, yeah I'm sure that's why.
