Something, something, something, dark side. Something, something, something, complete.

E

Apple Bloom is upset. She never has anything nice because her family has no money. She has to make do with her big sister's hand-me-downs, and lives in the smallest, dingiest room in the farmhouse. Applejack and Sunset Shimmer decide to brighten up her room.

This story is set in the Equestria Girls universe, some time after the events of the film Rainbow Rocks.

This story is a birthday present for Coby.

Thanks Tennis Match Fan for pre-reading this story and offering some suggestions. (Take a look at her stories if you like stories about pastel coloured humans.)

I saw you'd released this whilst I was reading another fan fiction, but this gives me a break from it.

10/10 mate

A rather subdued slice of life with some interesting subtext. I would've liked to have seen Apple Bloom's reaction, but this was still a fairly enjoyable read.

What kind of older sibling gives up the larger room? I friggin' conned my brother into switching (even though, technically they both had the same square footage, and now that I think about it the one I gave up had a cooler layout... CURSES!)

Nice story... the way they were "eying" each other through me off a bit as I was not expecting that, but the story was nice. I don't read much about AJ (either verse) interacting just one on one with her friends very often. Perhaps, I should rectify this.

6032103 To be honest, I wasn't sure whether I wanted it to be a ship fic or not, so it ended up something in between, and I'm not sure that aspect of the story really worked.

I've got a CocoRariShy story coming out in a few days which I think treads that middle line a bit better.

I just took Applejack's to be more about her fantasizing about being able to wear something other than generic "work duds" and be able to pull it off. I suppose we all have that fantasy of wanting to put on something really cool, like a cape, but never do cause we fear that we won't look good in it or have the body for it.

Sunset's, on the other hand... I got nothin'. She's still trying to understand these strange new bodies? Mainly trying to figure out how to make the previous statements about her "technically" being a decade older not feel creepy. Sunset/AJ being the same age? Now there is a pairing I have not seen (granted, I don't really pay attention to ships, but we'll ignore that).

I might be interested in checking that other story out. I'll probably forget and I should probably get through my "read later" pile(s), but meh. If I see it, I'll check it out.

Cute, cute cute, one of these days I'm going to write a cute story

6032173 You should. They feel cleansing. :scootangel:

6033146 I don't have a sequel for this one planned. But who knows, maybe?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who realized that Sunset has to be about a decade older than the other girls (mentally, at least). The girls are somewhere in the range of 15 to 17, while Sunset would have to be in her mid-twenties if she was Celestia's protege long enough before Twilight for her not to even know about Sunset.

Anyway, this was a cute story, but I wanted more. A scene where Apple Bloom comes back and sees her room would be nice.

6033974 Ages are generally something that it's best not to overthink in MLP. If there's anything that seems odd, I think it's best to wave one's hand and mumble something about the differences in how ponies and humans mature, different year lengths on Equestria and Earth, and that jumping between dimensions can also result in temporal jumps.

However, in this story, I did feel it worthy of mentioning that Sunset would be somewhat more mature and experienced than her classmates.

"I was redecorating my own apartment a few months ago, and I still had some spare paint."

Now I'm curious, was this before or after her reformation? It doesn't really make sense before if she only planned to stay there until she could conquer Equestria, and afterwards up to Rainbow Rocks methinks she would be too busy wallowing in self-pity and doing nice things for others to care about her own apartment, though I guess it could be interpreted as some kind of symbolic action for a new start to leave her past behind her. Is this story set a few months after Rainbow Rocks? How long was the time between both Equestria Girls movies?

6036089 The story's description says:

This story is set in the Equestria Girls universe, some time after the events of the film Rainbow Rocks.

So yes, probably a few months after the end of Rainbow Rocks.

The intro of Rainbow Rocks shows the Dazzlings seeing the flash of magic from Sunset Shimmer's defeat at the hands of the Mane 6. After that, the events of MLP season 4 must occur, and then after that we have the Dazzlings enrolling at Canterlot High, and Sunset Shimmer assigned to show them around. I've seen people use an estimate of 6 months as the time period that season 4 covers.

Well written, but plot poor. I'm not down voting, but I can't up vote either.

I should read my read later piles too. I think I have close a dozen piles.
