Pinkie has feeling for Applejack, or maybe she doesn't. And Applejack has feelings back, probably. But how can two ponies figure it out without risking their friendship? A strange scene on the farm, followed by a frank discussion at Sugarcube Corner provides the catalyst for them to explore their feelings before committing themselves one way or another.
Bad Horse made me do it.
I have no words.
I'm sorry, what?
This felt longer than it was.
AJ, you should come back after the morning rush. You're more likely to get a coherent string of thought progression that way, and less likely to get just whatever snippet Pinkie is on when she walks by.
5618371 So very true.
Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned what gamboge means.
Sincerely,
DreamKitsune
5618680 Everypony d'awws at it.
'Twas beautiful.
I feel... Like drugs were involved... What the hay?!
But it was good. Very weird, yes, but good... And weird. Had to mention that twice
Oh hey, it's not rated [Mature].
I find the story amusing, but about around the third ding I got lost on this.
I find it confusing a bit.
5618376
I don't think Pinkie conversations get more normal later in the day.
5618692
I'm always happy when a reader learns something useful from one of my stories!
5618796
Thank you!
5618994
The blog post sort of explains it. Plus, it was written for Bad Horse, so I thought I ought to be something weird he'd either love or hate--but either way, he'll remember it (and remember why letting me have story prompts is a terrible idea).
5619076
Were you expecting it to be?
5619513
The blog post helps to explain what's going on...
5619655
That's not what I was saying.
I was assuming that each time there's a ding that Pinkie went off to do something, came back, and started again from wherever her thoughts had gone while otherwise occupied. All I was saying is that if AJ had been able to be around Pinkie the entire time, then at least she would have seen where Pinkie's thoughts had wandered in between the snippets AJ saw otherwise.
Mmm, space-time sandies. So much better than the pecan ones, though getting them out of the oven can be complicated. Getting married to your distant cousin is one of the best possible outcomes when baking them.
An enjoyable read once I kept the Random tag in mind and abandoned all hope of coherence. I offer you a prompt-fic fistbump, good sir.
5619679
Ah, I see.
This actually isn't like that, although I see how it could be confusing. Each time there's a ding, it's because the conversation got derailed, and it resets.
It was inspired by the one-act play Sure Thing, although I had more of a disconnect between scenes.
5619700
It doesn't have to be. Rather than force them to conform to your perception of when they should be out of the oven, just wait until they already would have been, and you'll find them on the cooling racks. Or in your pocket, a day before you planned on baking them.
If I write a random comedy, I toss logic out the window, back in the door, and then out the chimney.
Thank you!
And you seemed like such a sensible author.
5620214
I can do both sensible and silly.
5619668
That's what you were threatening over at Bad Horse's blog.
You weren't allowed to get rid of an idea once it came to you, were you?
I feel like this is a time loop story every day everything starts over. Also nopony cares really and just goes with it because it's a story about Pinkie Pie, and Applejack is the straight man of the joke. I enjoyed the let's go in the back and fuck moment.
Amusing yet confusing.
Incest is wincest...?
I don't even know man.
5620336
Only 50% of me wanted to do that. The other 50% voted for crazy.
5620566
It wasn't that I wasn't allowed to, it was more of I chose not to.
5620748
You're pretty close, although it's a shorter loop. Just goes back a little bit in the conversation, sometimes.
That's actually nearly a quote from the play Cloud 9: "Do you want to go behind the barn and ."
FWIW, this story was influenced by plays I did in college. I guess that theatre degree is paying off.
5621703
Thanks!

Pinkie and AJ are probably far enough removed as cousins that it doesn't count. After all, in many states in the US, first cousins are allowed to marry.
Wow... I didn't know you had it in you.
(But for your sake, I'm glad it's out.)
5698484
What, the randomness? I can do random comedy. Or was it the ApplePie shipping? 'Cause that kind of surprised me, too, but it was a prompt from Bad Horse, so what could I do?
I probably enjoyed that more than I should have.

"Why, Ah used to be a stallion" is my favorite line in the whole thing.
wtf did I read!
And can I have s'more?
And new word learned!
I wrote a review of this story. It can be found here.
5703796
I cherish the random tag.
Possibly--my muse is amusingly weird.
Ooh, which one?
5738169
Thank you!
5738922
5738921
gamboge
5739065
Ah! It's a good word to know.
5739068
Yes its almost up there with defenestrate
5739081
I love defenestrate.
Next in line is 'turpitude.'
5739241
Which reminds me of the word
"FLAGITIOUS"
5740432
Dafuq did I just read?
It'd be one thing if the dings were actual time resets. But they aren't. Sometimes the conversation seems to continue after a ding. Sometimes it seems to reset AND continue the conversation after a ding. And sometimes it just changes everything.
This story is the new definition of the Random tag. You just upped the bar, Biscuit
5776059
Thanks!
It makes a little more sense if you know the work it's based off (which is mentioned in the blog post).
