My sister and I save the land from the tyranny of Discord, only to succumb to him a thousand years later, and if not him, then to the myriad of creatures we had thought banished or defeated a millinea prior.

Celestia and I are the only ones that can weild the Elements of Harmony, only we can defend Equestria.

And yet we fail...

Princess Luna is in a time loop, it is a fact of nature. She can not escape it any more than a mayfly can cheat death. This is what transpires as a result. Witness a thousand years of Equestrian history, of Discord's first defeat right up to a Princess of the night trying to find the right way to save the world countless times over.
