Yiiiikes. Yeah, so many people fluff up Sonata because she's the funny, cute one, but they forget she was cackling and singing to kill in the movie. And it gets worse when you consider what sirens did in ancient mythology with those they ensnared. I still feel bad for her, because I think the Sirens are the only ones who've been Rainbow-blasted who lost an integral part of themselves.
Nightmare just got instant-therapy.
Discord was turned to stone, but when he was released he still had his powers.
Twilight gained a part of herself.
Tirek lost his magic, but that magic wasn't his to begin with.
But the Sirens? They lost everything that defines them as Sirens. They were a force that needed to be stopped, yes, but it doesn't make what happened to them any less tragic.
Go for the throat, Sonata...

Not bad at all. The narrator is kind of bloggy, but the ideas you're tossing out are good and I like the use of inner monologue for Sonata. Not a lot of people seem to want to let her think, so those that do instantly get my attention.
Bit by bit, you're really improving with these character studies. I'm glad there are people who can actually yield a productive read with 1000 words.

It would be difficult not to in any story that contains only one character, unless Majin wrote from third-person objective instead of limited, in which case the readers wouldn't be privy to any of her thought process at all. Then we would just have a story of Sonata continuously looking in the mirror, occasionally making different facial expressions, and laughing a bit. As in... maybe 100 words? It's impossible to have a character drabble without looking into the character's mind; that elaboration of the character's mindset may come off as sympathetic, but the narrator is not a separate character here—they're just a reporter.
Plus, I think it's more interesting to write from a villian's perspective without having another character object to what they're doing/thinking. It makes it so much darker that way.
Your opinion is valid, but it was just something I wanted to point out. :)

I concede that it is possible for the narrator to be disapproving of the character. A neutral stance, though? Hmm. I don't think I've seen a neutral narrator in a solo-character drabble. I would have to read an example to share my thoughts on it. And it is true that you can convey emotions objectively through body language and such. I was more meaning that doing so would have made for a shorter and less interesting story in this case, IMO.
Maj personally is sympathetic to Sonata here, but I don't think the narrator was. I saw this as more an "investigative reporter" than a sympathizer or fellow conspirator. Agree to disagree though.

Oh, how I adore the thing that is Psychonata Dusk.
I really enjoyed this. It is rare to find a really good fic that explores Sonata's inherently dark character (I mean, she enjoyed being evil just as much as Adagio and Aria, despite her odd personality).
It's really weird, actually, but I absolutely love how you used the idea of perfection and imperfection. I can't really explain why, but something about how straight you use the terms, and how 'simple' it is in Sonata's mind is fascinating. And the use of the red glasses is brilliant. Like, those few paragraphs are some of my favorite. I can see it so clearly in my mind's eye when reading, and can practically hear her in my head, experiencing these thoughts. The use of the hair clippings/fairy wings/ears was interesting, and the ending was wonderfully chilling as well. (Essentially, I like the whole thing)
Also, exactly 1,000 words. Icing on the cake.

On a more serious note, I've been waiting for something like this. Most stories I've read that involved Sonata almost always put her in a redeeming quality, or focused on her quirky/ditzy behavior. This is understandable, with her being a fan favorite and all, but a lot of people tend to forget that she was just as sinister and evil as the other Sirens. While I'm not saying that every fic should be about Sonata being evil and losing her mind, it is nice to see something different about her every now and then.
The Sirens being stripped of all their magic at once would surely have some psychological effect on them. For Adagio and Aria I would suspect some major form of depression from the public humiliation and eventual withdrawal symptoms from the energy they gained from causing conflict.
With Sonata being described by some fans as an "evil Pinkie Pie", it would only be natural that, after losing her powers at the concert, she has her own little "Party of One" moment. Only this one is much worse than Pinkie's. In this one, Sonata doesn't have any friends to help bring her back from the brink, and now revenge is the only thing on her mind.
While I know this is a one-shot, I would love it if you, or another talented author, wrote a continuation for this at some point in the future.
Heck, with your permission I might very well write it myself, with plenty of blood and gore to satisfy all of our psychotic needs.

I really wish we had a LOT more stories like this on FimFiction; stories that delve into the psyche of a villain and see what made them tick. This story, along with its illustrative that you can picture perfectly in your head, is a perfect example of how just a thousand word story can really make you view things from another side.
