Y'know, when I first read it, I figured Merc was just being funny. Playing Dash as the not-so-bright as would come unsurprising. But seeing it again, I wonder.

It's not necessary. As long as you know what happened in the 1st and 2nd fic, Big Red isn't essential.

Nice little interlude. Little weird there was no reference to Big Mac or how the duo made it back to Dash and AJ. Great story regardless and glad it was slice of life. I enjoy my action but in smaller doses thank you.

It threw me a little as well, but I'll trust Merc to exposition when necessary. He's quite good at that. I would believe he meant this chapter to be mostly for Applejack and Rainbow themselves, but just couldn't ignore Mac and 'Bloom. The chapter is fine as is, imho. That's just me. :shrug:

Well, originally, I didn't want them to be back quite yet. That's a decent passage of time, and has far reaching consequences on what Lew, Luna, Zecora, and Gilda are doing. It's a lot to keep track of, as well as make sure it's all reasonable and makes sense and whatnot. I think, of the three of us, I'm the one most concerned trying to keep everything in its proper order.
God, I dread us leaving a plot hole in our wake...
But yeah, it's true this is supposed to focus purely on Dash and Jack. Regardless, though, the homecoming needs to be somewhere, so we'll address that in an appropriate place.
...actually, that would probably fall under my jurisdiction with the Big Red sequel focusing on Lew and Cadence. Yep, now that I think of it, definitely my job. Well then. Problem solved!
Can't wait for the third act.

This has to be the sweetest, saddest, cutest installment of this series yet. Every single character is spot-on, from Mac's ineffable, unreadable stoicism to Isabelle's take-no-bullshit attitude, from Jack's own rough-and-tumble yet kind and caring demeanor to Alice's bouncy, playful, young and childish enthusiasm. In one chapter, a one-shot, no less, you managed to not only re-capture my interest, but solidify the claim these characters have on my heart, and for that, I humbly thank you.
