I'm a science-fiction and fantasy buff, creator of the Chakat Universe, and now dabbling in the MLP:FiM universe. I love a good story!

Centuries ago, the Kirin had grown corrupt and evil, and had enslaved all the sapient races of the world, treating ponies as their playthings. However, an alicorn rises to conquer them and free ponykind. The Kirin are banished and are eventually forgotten, but the immortal beings had not forgotten the alicorn who had defeated them. It is during the golden age of Equestria when a ruthless unforeseen strike against all the alicorns leaves them without their leaders and once more at the mercy of the Kirin. Who can save the ponies now?

This is the in-depth story behind the short story - "The Time Of The Alicorn".

No, seriously...I liked the start of this story (and also The Time Of The Alicorn). A bit darker than your usual tales, but most certainly interesting. I've added it to the list of stories I'll watch out for new chapters for.

And this is why you don't show mercy to contemptuous and cruel (not to mention inherently powerful) murderhobos when you beat them - you remove the threat for good! Otherwise its the later generations that pay the price. But man, did the ponies have this coming or what with their refusal of unification and taking the kirin seriously? That's like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! I also bet the kirin had something to do with that thing that killed faust before she could inform her children properly.

Its a nice start though - Time of the Alicorn was neat but way too short so i'm all for seeing the story fleshed out! I hope Twilight picks up magical death engineering by the time it ends and devises some magical plague that wipes out the Kirin by the end of this, no more second chances! :pinkiecrazy:

And is that a double meaning i sense in thi's story's title (assuming it picks up where the Time of The Alicorn left out)? On one hoof it can be taken literally (twilight as in the end/decline of the alicorn reign), on the other hoof, with Twilight giving birth to an alicorn herself, the "alicorn race" may well be on the doorstep of a rise once again, so it could be Twilight's story, and since Twilight is an Alicorn, if one was to refer to with her species, that's Twilight, of the alicorns race :pinkiegasp:

5551198 Yes, the title has a deliberate double meaning.

I'm glad you liked the start. Wish me luck with the rest!

These Kirin things are almost splet the same way as my name that's cool its just missing an A

I like the idea; I can vaguely visualize where you are going; however; this chapter could have been more powerful and useful if you never mentioned Faust's name. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but think about it: All you had to do was describe her; or how the other ponies and Kirin described her. Naming that alicorn "Faust" limited her when she passed judgement on the Kirin. Even if most of the audience didn't recognize the description, other commentators would have picked up on that and have had more investment into the story.

Maybe it was intentional to limit her power. Thought-provoking.

Names are powerful, but they are also limiting.

"names are limiting" reminded me of "tryptich" by Estee. one of the main characters is a literally nameless mare who tries to become an Alicorn...without the Elements. it doesn't go well...

That story isn't quite finished and that mare isn't at fault.

...

And holy necro!
