Diamond Tiara is easily the most popular pony in her class, and definitely the wealthiest. Her closet is full of all the newest trends and her family runs a well known business that nets money from places that aren't even in Equestria, but she isn't exactly very clever.

Silver Spoon, on the other hand, is not at all fashionable and her family is the opposite of 'high-class.' She is very clever, though, and her and Diamond get along surprisingly well, but Silver sometimes feels a little...like she's having to work to let Diamond be her best friend.

So when an art competition comes up and both of the fillies decide to participate, Silver has to decide whether she'll let her love for art shine through or hold back so Diamond's parents will be satisfied.

Thanks.

Great stuff! This story continues the long tradition of Silver Spoon having difficulties understanding and relating to other ponies, although the specific interpretation here is rather interesting; so often she's the rich underachiever who gets by on her high society status, but not much else.

For a first fic this is really good, with lots of well-rounded characters (in the opening chapter no less, which isn't easy to pull off), and the portrayal of bullying is realistic without becoming overbearing. Looking forward to more of this. :)

Nice work. I've read in other stories before that Diamond was super popular but they never write it very well. After all why would Diamond be popular if all she does is mock others? You made sure to make it obvious that it's merely the Crusaders she's mocking and she treats everyone else decently. I like how Diamond also treats Silver like a true friend. The whole "Diamond is mean but Silver is nice!!" concept gets pretty old, haha, but overall Diamond is fairly nice(except to the Crusaders) and she views Silver as a friend and vice versa.

This is my first MLP fanfiction, and actually my first fanfic too.

I haven't been able to comment since I added the fic to a few groups. But wow. This is your very first fiction? Well, this is one heck of a first!

I just wanted to write something that involved fillyhood friendship.

This is quite honestly one of the nicest Silver Spoon focused story with Diamond Tiara I've been able to enjoy in some time. It's refreshing to see a fun and more expansive look at the rest of the foals in the class in how they interact with ponies like Silver and Diamond (a very nice contrast between the two there) have to deal with in and out of school.

Silver has a lot to put up with. Now she has to risk losing her friend over an art competition. And heaven forbid what Diamond's mum would do should she ever realize Diamond is failing in math. Those kinds of parents see friendships as distractions and bad influences. They'd bury their kids in anything they want if it meant keeping them friendless to better control their career paths.

Story is really good. Keep up the great work.

"I hope you realize that by losing the contest just for the sake of Diamond winning would be incredibly silly and selfish." Wait, shouldn't that be selfless, because she's willing to PURPOSELY LOSE SO HER FRIEND CAN WIN!?

5523988 A different kind of selfish, actually. One where she is unfair to herself. Putting her own needs or desires before others despite no real gain for either. Silver is doing it in fear she'd hurt her friendship with Diamond Tiara, but yet she really wants to enter. Diamond Tiara doesn't even sound interested, and probably knows Silver is the more passionate one when it comes to art.

So, yeah, Silver is being very selfish. She's both not giving her friend enough credit to think she'd stop being friends over joining the competition as well, and saying the only way Diamond could win would be for her to drop out which if Diamond got wind of that would probably rub off the wrong way then if Silver had just joined into the competition.

It's not charity. It's a simple art competition. Silver isn't doing anyone any favors by withdrawing and giving Diamond Tiara a default. I very much doubt anyone would feel accomplished knowing someone thought themselves so good that they had to 'give' you a win. As a competitive person I can say it really irks me when someone tries to claim they're going easy on me or actually are.

So, yeah, one can be selfish to one's self. And it's a pretty common thing where people who spend more time worrying about what others think of them or how others might react to certain situations, like joining that competition, how Di's mom would probably bar DT from being friends with Silver if she got on her bad side by showing up Di in something she'd expect Di to best Silver Spoon in.

I mean, Di's mom already sees Silver as one whose no doubt distracting Diamond from reaching her full potential. Especially one not of the status worthy of being around Diamond as she blurts out almost completely in this fic.

TL;DR: "Silver Spoon, Y U NO FAITH IN FRIENDSHIP!?"

Here's hoping the next chapter is coming along nicely.
