Thank you very much good sir! Your constructive criticism will help a lot in shaping the next chapters. I really, really appreciate your input, and I hope to give you exactly what you want in the next chapters!
oh man
Oh, wow! Winslow, sneaking around with Luna? Oh ho!
...Is it bad that I find these sorts of over the top dragonball super turbo anime fights uninteresting and predictable? They always seem to play out the same way.
-Spike starts out losing very badly because of lack of experience (as he realistically would).
-BUT THEN Spike decides to awaken his ultimate secret powers (TM) because he didn't want to make his friends sad. Fight resumes and pretends like he wasn't just getting his ass kicked.
-Sigrid (aka generic cocky anime villain) expresses mild surprise and decides to activate HER ultimate secret powers (TM).
-Fight escalates back and forth with both sides revealing more and more ultimate secret powers (TM) until Spike is literally throwing around HADOUKENS and Sigrid has turned into something straight out of goddamn PROTOTYPE 2.
You know how people say that it's not a good thing to crank the crazy right up to 11 from the word go, because high intensity then becomes the new normal? That's pretty true here, I think. Everybody seems to have some kind of incredible super power that was gifted to them or that they were born with.
-The captain is a super rare god-tier magic dragon, and so is Spike. His inherent superiority is made evident in that Spike is somehow able to defeat a highly trained super mutant assassin in single combat with less than a day or so's worth of training.
-Winslow is some kinda half-breed that was born with a magic demon eye, giving him future sight. He can cut bullets out of the air and effortlessly slaughter his way through dozens if not hundreds of foes.
-Fluttershy is a vampire. I know about the vampony episode, and that's not the problem. What annoys me is that somehow wasn't enough. She's not just a plain old vampire, she's a SUPER VAMPIRE that's better in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY and she has KILLER INSTINCTS that kick in at a MOMENT'S NOTICE SO YOU BETTER NOT MAKE HER MAD OR BOY, OH BOY, ARE YOU IN FOR A BAD TIME.
-Twilight. She's the one I wouldn't be complaining about if it weren't specifically for the scene where she conjures two magic swords and starts dueling with Constantine like a professional fencer. Twilight. Sparkle. Dual-wielding swords. How? Did I miss the part where Twilight signs up with the special forces and learns how to kill a person 200 different ways while also juggling her duties as the Princess of Friendship?
At this point I would say it's a pretty safe bet that Coba and Gin also have some ridiculous tricks up their sleeves even if I haven't seen them yet, and I didn't even mention the villains. It's more interesting when a character does something to EARN the powers they have rather than just being better because fate said so. What if this motely band of pirates was just that - a ragtag bunch of average-joe mercenaries who, through forging bonds and gaining experience via trial-by-fire adventure, build themselves up to be a fearsome band of elite fighters known the world over!
Way I see it, we skipped straight to the end and we didn't get to see what adventures made this pirate crew so great to begin with.
...I went off on a rant there. Sorry, but these sorts of tropes just kind of bring me out of the story.
I'll read a bit further, but maybe this one isn't really for me.
