Discord's enthusiasm for his first Hearth's Warming Eve is a little disconcerting for the ponies of Equestria, especially in Ponyville. His bizarrely intense love for the holidays is both refreshing and a bit dangerous. But he won't stop at decorations and carols. For his first Hearth's Warming Eve, Discord wants to prove to his friends that he really has changed by giving them each a present they will love above all others. But a little bit of the whole "Spirit of Chaos" thing insists on leaking into the gifts. When all have been given out and he's left to think about the results, he starts to wonder if this is all just proof that he was never meant to be anything more than a villain.

This was great. Just great. I love it. They were all in great, amazing character. There was not one moment that was OOC for any of them. You gave us so many glimpses into each of their perspectives. I am especially impressed by what you had Discord do with his powers. It was creative, original, and truly, truly chaotic. I'd say you'd make a good student for Discord. I often struggle to come up with things for him to do, but you did wonderfully. And it ties everything the show is about in one great, heartwarming holiday package: friendship, understanding, redemption, love. It was amazing. Not only an upvote, but a favorite from me.

I love this story!
I would have turned Discord back to stone. Rarity's relationship with her cat would be utterly ruined. If I were her, I would hate him for life. Just because he's chaotic, doesn't mean he doesn't understand consequences. He's actually smart and everything he does, he actually does for a reason. Yes, he didn't see the long term consequences with aiding Tirek but that was when he was corrupted by a desire to restore his power. Meaning though if he had acted in a similar manner as when Tirek was around then he hadn't actually changed at all. So back to stone.
Anyway, good story. The writing is decent and it flows. Definitely a contender to win. And that's pretty much it. Good luck and all that. Obviously with all your popularity, I doubt you need any though.
I liked this story a lot. I think it is a very fitting idea, that Discord would try but fail, because he doesn't really get it yet. I really like that idea, that he is becoming better at the whole empathy thing, but that he is just still kinda alien and thoughtless in how he thinks.
Was it a monkey he gave Shy?
5422535 As it is written here, there weren't any real relationship except one between moocher and owner. I know that cats are usually portrayed as arrogant as hell, but seriously, if anyone spoke to me like that, with such a lack of respect or even basic empathy, they wouldn't be my friend anymore. Friends like each other and to some, hopefully great, extent, acknowledge and respect each others' passions and abilities.
On the surface, that collar is the best gift Discord thought up. With any pet that actually liked their owner, like Tank or Winowna, it would have been brilliant, then it would have been like that dog in Up.
Again, great story. I really liked it. Well done.

Yes, but obviously, Rarity was better off not knowing. She liked her cat and now, they're not going back to the way things were unless Discord wipes their memories and even then, he would take the opportunity to "accidentally" erase their memories fully. Discord is probably still evil even if he pretends not to be.
5428047 I guess you're of the opinion "ignorance is bliss". I'm very, very much not. And in the context of this story, it is pretty obvious Dissy is trying, but not evil. He is pretty distraught that his gift weren't as good as he thought. If he was only pretending, the narrative wouldn't say he was actually sad and he wouldn't keep up the charade in private.
But it seems we are simply not going to agree on this.

I don't believe that ignorance is bliss. That's taking advantage of my statement. But what Discord did was reveal what shouldn't have been revealed, doing a lot of harm and no good. Apologizing is fine and good but how can he undo that damage? Without attempting to do so then Rarity can't begin to forgive him. It wouldn't even be possible to demand forgiveness. I believe that Discord is a character that would know better than to do what he did. He is show in FiM to be smarter than most of the ponies and capable of long term thinking. Maybe he didn't do it purposely but it was very reckless.

I don't think you turn people to stone for breaking up the relationship between a woman and her cat. Turning to stone is kind of reserved for things like mass inversions of gravity, randomly transforming the seasons and playing with the day/night cycle, removing body parts from others for amusement, mutating animals against their will... not making cats talk. Even if it was done maliciously it still doesn't warrant being turned to stone.

Very sweet and very Discord! I like that he values his friendship to all the girls and not just Fluttershy. As big as a Fluttercord fan I am, it's still good to read about his relationship with the others. And it was brilliant to have Rainbow Dash be the one to talk to him.

Personally every time she went into drama queen mode I could see the cat thought she was ridiculous. She just going to have grow up a little about her pet. There is a reason they don't make fashion for cats. Cats won't go for it.
