My parents never said there was a Santa Claus. A couple of decades later I look back and am happier for it. We celebrated the reason for the holiday, the birth of our savior Jesus. Saint Nicholas was an amazing philanthropist and is the reason for the tradition of hanging stockings from the mantle of the fireplace. I can say the kids are no less off for parents telling the truth.
Doesn't make me enjoy stories with Santa in them any less though just like all fictional characters.

. It's true, Santa is based many different people and legends. In fact, the name is from a pronunciation of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. I have no disagreement with telling kids the truth just as I have no problem with telling kids about Santa. Either way works.
