Fret

A few hobbies of mine would be animating, drawing, and writing. Wouldn't it be crazy if I got a job that includes one of those in the future? ...Pfft... Naaah....

Celestia's is called by Discord to talk about her actions to defeat Tirek, for he can't help but think that there was something more to her plan than what she says.

"And yet it was on your mind the whole time that I knew about Twilight?"

Well let's be honest, despite aiding Tirek with draining Discord's not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think 'helpful and forthcoming'.

Let's be honest, Celestia's plan after Discord turned hinged on him not being the most helpful of people, and it's... well, it's not an unreasonable assumption to make now is it?

How could anyone downvote this?!
This is deep! A rare take on a more serious Discord. I like it. Very much.
Especially for seriously showing more than just one layer to Celly's and Discord's relationship.

Nice one.

Its well written but I really can't get on board with the whole mastermind Celestia thing.

For someone who is supposedly so good at predicting and planning around everyones actions including the spirit of chaos; you would think she would have a better plan than one that involved Tirek literally getting all (non friendship-rainbow deus ex machina from a box based) magic and the ability to do whatever the hell he wanted with it.

Who's the real bad guy when your supposedly benevolent sun goddess will put your whole race at the mercy of an evil magic stealing monster to teach a small friendship lesson to select few of "actually important" ponies.

That wasn't the most wisest thing you've done."

Should be wisest. The most should be removed.

You should never use more and -er/most and -est together unless you are trying to portray a specific style.

So Celestia also knew that Tirek would give Discord something that could turn into the key?

I downvoted because I don't think Discord has a right to be upset and I don't like it when people act like Celestia actually using her brain is a bad thing. People complain about puppeteers and manipulation. Who could behave as they needed to if every thing was spelled out to them? If everything was an act? Who would actually use their own brain?

No, I appreciate Celestia's cunning

5405639 I think Discord has every right to be angry. I mean, I would be. If someone set me up in any way for any reason, i'd be angry. Even if in the end, everything turned out better.

5405755

that's your choice I guess.

Funny thing is Celestia didn't even really manipulate anyone here. She just trusted them to be themselves and put them where being themselves would be affective.

the problem complaining about Celestia having no other plan than basically letting Tirek have all the magic was we have no way of knowing if there was another feasible plan.

Maybe the Elements of Harmony would have worked but we don't know the Tree of Harmony would have given them back. Equestria seems full of beings that can be defeated if you can do this one thing

An interesting argument, but still a little loose here and there. Celestia is a little over emotional, IMO, at the finding that one of her puppets has woken up and is confronting its master directly. Some dissuasion or misdirection from her at the beginning would seem more plausible for a puppeteer of her calibre. Even when that fails, I can't see guilt coming over her so. She's immortal, she's ruled for centuries, and as we've seen in previous seasons, The Long Game is certainly something she is adept at playing.

That also begs the question as to the duration of this particular instance of that game. I just have an issue with how long you're seeming to make it. I can see manipulating Discord after his reemergence, but not planning to have that happen. That he would feel guilty for his actions, because Fluttershy and her friendship with him was proof that he was capable of guilt, is a stronger argument for her trying to manipulate him in that way. Bringing him back in S3 could more readily be believed as her way of testing a theory, to see if friendship as a means of manipulation is possible, and would work at all on a being such as him.

The idea is there, certainly, and it got a Like for that. I just think more could have been done with it.

Very good. The epilogue makes the whole thing round. Now it's perfect.

5617856 Glad to hear that! :yay:

I really liked their interaction here, and I completely agree with you--shippy or not, these two need some interaction time. They have the capacity for such a strange yet workable friendship. I'm personally at least rooting for a "Friends Forever" comic with them lol. Anyway, nice job and thanks for the story

5673766 Eheh, thank you  and yeah, I would so be down for a friends forever comic.

Then again, I know they're going to be in the same episode as each other in S5. Who knows, they might interact with each other with at least a few lines.

Also, sorry for kinda late reply xD

5717726 Oh I know! :pinkiehappy: When I saw that in the trailer all I could think was even if he's just got a minor role in the smooze ep, at least let him ask Celestia to dance, play a prank on her, get into a conversation with her, something for the sake of letting them play off of each other lol. I'm just grateful we're definitely going to see Discord again next season  And no worries about the late reply at all :)

5717803 These two are an absolute addiction, no question. :trollestia: And if you look at the clip of him coming in, she really does have a ridiculously excited/intrigued look on her face about him being there. This show leaves us with Discord handing her a bouquet and winking at her of all things almost a year ago, and now we get teased with this--April needs to get here. Now.

An interesting perspective.

Personally In felt there were more strings being pulled by Discord during the 4th season.
I just couldn't decide if he was doing it to his own ends or if Tia had some say in it.

To be honest, I don't think either Celestia or Discord did the things they did in a vacuum.

Just prior to going to track down Tirek, Discord made a very pointed effort to guide the Mane 6 to the keys to the Box--yet, Twilight's key was obviously lacking...
Then Discord immediately joins Tirek the moment they meet...despite having Tirek already in chains....
Only for Celestia to report to Twilight Discord's betrayal and her plan to shift her and the other alicorns' powers to Twilight--telling Twilight she "doesn't think Discord told Tirek" about Twilight...
Nor...did Tirek find out from Discord about Twilight until after they captured the other princesses.
Now, at that point, Tirek betrays Discord and steals his power--
Thus making the fight between Twilight and Tirek a stalemate until Tirek threatened Twilight's friends.

So, why did Celestia ASSUME that Tirek had no knowledge of the fourth alicorn?
Why did Discord NOT tell Tirek of the keys to the Box when he joined him?
Why did Discord NOT tell Tirek of Twilight?

I strongly suspect that there were 2 liars in that episode: Celestia AND Discord. The one being lied to, however, was Twilight (I don't count Tirek for reasons to follow).
1) The keys all had to have some strong emotional attachment related to the bearers in their creation.
2) Discord knew one key for the Box was yet to be found.
3) In spite of the likelihood of Discord's quick capture of Tirek, Celestia also needed Twilight to find all six keys.

I think that Celestia and Discord both planned this out.
Her sending Discord to find Tirek was prearranged, as was his joining Tirek. It was a ruse to get an "ally" close to Tirek--they both knew that Tirek would eventually betray Discord in turn. Unless that is true, there's NO REASON for Celestia to tell Twilight that Tirek didn't know about her--unless she KNEW that Discord would keep quiet about it!
I believe they hoped that Tirek would taunt Discord by giving him a reminder of how Scorpan had betrayed Tirek, which Discord could then pass onto Twilight, thus making the final key. And by Discord telling her "I had no idea" was also part of the plan so that when Twilight received the last key from him, she put a stronger emotional imprint upon it.
So it was Twilight who was the puppet, with both Discord and Celestia pulling the strings. I suspect that Luna and Cadence knew, as well.
As for Tirek, I don't consider lying to the Enemy to be an immoral act.

The question becomes: is it morally acceptable to lie to or conceal information from your friends? In some cases, it may really be needed if lives are at risk and there has to be a genuine reaction from your agents--but still, is it morally the right thing to do? Or do we have to accept there may be times we have act immorally to do that "greater good"?
