I considered that. Part of the original concept was actually that Fluttershy won, but I figured that ending's been overdone. I also toyed with the idea of having both Rainbow and Applejack win, but that seemed too cheesy. In the end, I'm happy with the ending I picked.

I was thinking more like the Mayor's niece won even though her project was terrible because nepotism.
I'm not sure I could articulate how much I loved the portrayal of the Dash & Scootaloo relationship in this. The rest of the story was great too, but that adopted sisterhood.

“And gunpowder. Mostly gunpowder.” funny, and relevant it turns out! Anyway I really enjoyed what Rainbow and Scoots came up with, and it was nice to see Rainbow grow as a pony for it.
Also I really appreciate that Applejack says "I"... it's just not very common. It's not that I hate "Ah" and "Ah'm" or anything, but it gets grating after a while, whereas "I" never does - plus the way you wrote her speech read very naturally for AJ so I read it in her voice regardless.
