The Pastry Affair (Part I) and the Question of Townships
The Nineteenth Century: The Saga of Equestria
November 30, 1838
Canterlot, Equestria
“What is happening?” asked Celestia, running through the door. “Damn it, I leave Equestria for one event…”
“Glad to see you, too, sister,” smiled Luna. Returning to business, she said, “I have received word from our Mexican ambassador. It appears that Mexico angered the wrong person. Three days ago, French warships opened fire on the Mexican city of Veracruz.”
“Why? What justification do they have?”
“An amazing one,” Twilight said. “Apparently, some pastry baker has claimed damages against the Mexican government for an incident that occurred back in 1828. In response, the French government demanded payment in the amount of six hundred thousand pesos to cover the citizen’s claims, along with the repayment of a few loans. Mexico refused, and here we are.”
“A lot of money, that is. But what is France trying to get out of it? The money? Or maybe something else?”
“I don’t know, but we should act,” said Twilight.
“And what do you propose we do? France is a Great Power, and has a perfectly legal, if somewhat distasteful reason, to demand satisfaction against Mexico.”
“Perhaps. But think of this opportunity! We have a good way to solidify friendly relations with Mexico here. In addition, and maybe more importantly, we can boost our prestige by standing up to a Great Power, and get the other Latin American nations on our side. We don’t have to declare war or anything so dramatic. Rather, we simply must send a letter to France; an official diplomatic message, asking them to not blow the situation out of proportion, and perhaps offer to mediate a dispute. No grandstanding beyond that is necessary.”
“And if they refuse?”
“Then we send a small military detachment - no more than a thousand, if that - down to Mexico, to ‘observe.’ They will be ordered to not fight unless attacked, and they shall lend humanitarian aid to the fighting. Such actions should not draw the ire of the French, but will be of great assistance to the Mexican people.”
Celestia nodded, pleased with the resourcefulness Twilight was showing. “I think that sounds like a great idea. All in favor?”
All four Princesses voted in favor.
“Excellent one, sister,” complimented Cadance.
Text of the Official Diplomatic Dispatch to France from Equestria
Your Most Christian King, Louis Philippe the First,
It has come to the attention of this Royal Council that your government has attacked the Republic of México, demanding a payment in the amount of six hundred thousand Mexican pesos. The Equestrian Royal Council urges you and your government to not allow inflamed passions and national pride to cloud logic. Make no mistake, the Royal Council recognizes the fact that your government possess valid claims. However, consider the fact that forcing the government of México to pay through military force may just cost more than it is worth. Also, the government of México is going through difficult political and social issues. Their difficulties may severely impair their ability to pay any restitution forced upon them by a bayonet. We urge you to consider these facts. Should your government tire of this war, the Principality of Equestria is willing to offer an unbiased perspective and mediate discussions between your two countries.
With regards,
The Serene Majesties of Equestrian Royal Council, whose signatures are attached below.
Princess Celestia
Princess Luna
Princess Mi Amore Cadenza
Princess Twilight Sparkle
(Signed November 30, 1838 by the Royal Council.
Received in the Court of Philippe on January 2, 1839)
“What the...who sent this?” asked Louis Philippe.
“The rulers of the Principality of Equestria,” said a nearby aid. “It shares a northern border with México. It’s that nation of horses.”
Text of the Official Diplomatic Dispatch from France to Equestria
Leaders of Equestria,
I will thank you to not interfere in the matters of my nation. France can handle herself perfectly fine, and we do not need your help. I suggest you focus on keeping marauding pirates of off your lands. After all, that does seem to be problem your nation has.
Louis Philippe
(Received by the Equestrian Royal Council on January 29, 1839)
“Well, that did not go as well as I had hoped,” said Twilight.
“No, but it went as well as we expected,” replied Celestia. “The humans still don’t take us seriously. It is regrettable, but was to be expected. Now, we should assemble that special force and dispatch it to Mexico.”

Canterlot, Equestria
“The presence of the Principality’s troops on Mexican territory is intolerable. It is inappropriate breach of Mexico’s territory sovereignty. It is clear that your forces are prepared to intervene on behalf of Mexico,” said the French ambassador to Equestria.
“Firstly, you have no evidence for the second charge. Secondly, if our actions are an illegal breach of Mexico’s sovereignty, someone should tell the Mexicans that. The government and military of Mexico have lodged no complaints with Equestria, France, or any other power. In fact, they have started coordinating humanitarian missions with our troops.” Celestia hesitated and said, in a more subdued tone, “With respect, I urge you to realize that we sent seven hundred troops. That is nowhere near the required amount to pose any substantial threat to your forces. Their sole mission is to provide humanitarian aid.”
“Hmm,” replied the ambassador.

Canterlot, Equestria
...Therefore, let it be known that the Communities of Earth Ponies hereby officially petitions the Equestrian Royal Council to re-establish the local townships. The ponies of Equestria wish to have a greater say in government. We are appreciative of the Princesses actions to protect Equestria. But the completion of the westernization process means that the centralization of the Equestrian government directly under the Princesses and their Magistrates is no longer necessary. We, the ponies of Equestria, call upon the Princesses to restore the townships to their prior status.
Signed,
(50 earth pony political leaders, mostly former mayors and other ponies of prominence)
“This is outrageous!”
“Silence, Chancellor Blueblood,” said Celestia. “Your seat on this Council is honorary, and you have both no say and no vote. If we want your opinion, we will ask for it.”
“These...this is an unacceptable insult!” plowed on former-Prince, now-Chancellor Blueblood. “These earth ponies are attacking both the Royal Court and the Royal Council! They-”
“Chancellor of the Royal Court! I order you to still your tongue!” snapped Celestia. “Do it, or we’ll kick you off of the Council.”
The other Princesses nodded, apparently sick of Blueblood already.
Blueblood subsided, muttering angrily.
“Thank you. Now, a faction of the ponies, apparently, want their local governments. I, personally, am not sure we should return them.”
“Why not?” asked Cadance. “They have a point: westernization is complete. As such, we no longer need the authority to force through the reforms.”
“Cadance is correct,” said Luna. “Also, I have heard that a few of our Regional and Provincial Magistrates have started to abuse their power. There are accusations that Magistrate of Baltimare has been skimming off the top of the budget. The Regional Magistrate of Northern Equestria, Gold Moon, is rumored to have been using her prestige to start sleeping around outside her marriage. That wouldn’t be a problem, if it wasn’t for the fact that she is married.”
“If I may, Princess?” asked Chancellor Blueblood, somewhat more meekely than usual.
Celestia nodded.
“Thank you. I wish to offer a different point of view. I submit that reason Equestria is strong right now is because you abolished the townships. If we were to restore them, the progress that Equestria has made will be in threatened. The common ponies may want to reverse other reforms! No, I think this Council should ignore this petition, and maybe even make sure this kind of dissension is not tolerated in the future. Maybe by banning public meetings?”
All members of the Council recoiled. “No. I refuse to turn Equestria into a police state just to protect it,” said Celestia. “That being said, I am skeptical of the idea to return the townships. We can root out and dismiss the few bad apples in the administration. But consider this: as it stands, we are literally balancing on a knife-edge. One misstep, and the United States will come crashing down on us. They may even declare war, even if we don’t aggravate them! But should push come to shove, we cannot afford levels of redundancy like that in our government. Our entire plan for a theoretical war with the United States is contingent on us having total and undisputed control of every part of the government.” She saw both Twilight and Cadance wavering, and decided to ram the point in. “If the situation wasn’t so dangerous, then maybe we could consider this petition. But we cannot risk it.”
Leaning back, she said, “I move to dismiss this petition. I also move to conduct an investigation into our Royal Magistrates and correct any wrongdoing.”
Twilight and Cadance joined Celestia and voted for the motion. Luna did not.

Near Mexico City, Mexico
“FIRE!!!” BANG!
The hills echoed with the sound of gunfire. The French troops were apparently advancing.
The Mexicans can’t hold much longer, thought Lieutenant Quill, commanding officer of the Equestrian Army of Observation. He was the pegasus tasked with providing humanitarian aid to the struggling Mexican republic. Privately, he was also very much a Mexican sympathizer, and was desperately looking for an excuse to lend aid to them.
Not that the Princesses knew that, of course, when they assigned him to lead the company. They would have never appointed an open sympathizer to a company that was supposed to stay out of the fighting.
But here he was.
And here the course of history, already dramatically shifted, would change once again.
Ahahahahaha... Brilliant! Just brilliant! I certainly wasn't expecting this! Well played.
But indeed it was certainly dying down. The treaty that ended the conflict happened in early March. So by February it had certainly mostly died out. Santa Anna's failed attack happened pretty much at the tail-end of 1838, so at this point it was mostly the time the mediation took place.
Now in hindsight, I could see this as plausible. I would think that the ponies not being human would be a factor, but in general, it's the classic situation of the aggressor finding itself seeing a third party meddling to stop them in something they seek to gain. And Mexico would naturally not protest, since now that Santa Anna's failed attack on the French has already passed, meaning that they already know that their chances on getting out of this on their own is now slim if not impossible. Not to mention the fact the US went against their very own words by aiding the French instead of invoking the Monroe Doctrine. So at this point, that they have anyone at all supporting them, even if they're not human, would make them quite literally, not look the gift horse in the mouth.
This is certainly gonna have big repercussions. To start, France could actually start to have its tables turned if Leautenant Quill actually orders to join the fight. After all, the situation is much different near Mexico City than in Veracruz. Back then, they were able to succesfully take the fortress of San Juan the Ulua since the French used new siege techniques and stuff. That they could actually take the fort surprised Europe. And then Santa Anna's attack failed since they could hold position thanks to said fort they had captured. Another factor was that back then our weaponry wasn't exactly up to date. We pretty much mostly just had Napoleonic Era surpluss, so it was already a bit outdated by the 1830's. Which shows since it looks like we're still doing badly even if the French aren't sieging or in a fort.
And at the same time, Celestia has already declared that Equestria would not interfer. If Quill does... yep, kissing good relations with the French good-bye, and that would only be the start.
But to talk about the rest... hehehehe, admitedly, I find Blueblood's comment about ponies wanting to rollback the reforms amusing. Mostly since I think of the way game handles reforms and how Reform Movements and Upper House voting works, and in-game the Allow Public Meetings reform overall contributes to people wanting reforms, not rollbacks, in addition to being one of the requirements to become a more democratic government type. The power of the general populace is certainly one not to take lightly.
Auch. Well, this will be interesting.
The Equestrians (if I'm not wrong is mostly pegasi but with some unicorns and earth ponies) have the air advantage, something VERY important that will give them the edge in any type of war until WWI. Luckily I'm pretty sure the Equestrians will use that advantage to the best, now I'm curious what would the US try to do to counter the Equestrian Air Forces.
Now, I'm pretty sure this will have an effect in Latin America, if you went to each nation it would look that they weren't aware of what happened outside (unless you lived in the borders) but those who knew of politics were VERY aware of what happened in the outside world.
As an example: I've found that the first congress of Lima, Perú happened in 1847 as a result of the Mexican-American War and the nations of Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Nueva Granada (today Colombia) and Perú made a congress to discuss this events and agreed that they would try to protect each other from any type of foreign invasion (the old "You mess with one of us; you mess with all of us").
So the question would be: Which nations would react to this? México aside, I think the first ones to react would be the other nations of central america and they would try to open up diplomatic relationships (for being so close), while the ones in South America would see the events unfold, but they would stay exceptical for a while (A Very Important Chilean, once he heard of the Monroe Doctrine, said: "but we must be careful: for the americans of the north [The United States], the only americans are themselves"). Maybe the south will do something after seeing more signs that Equestria is trustworthy.
The French are fucked.
7129406
I would consider that another factor that would push the Central Americans nations to do it, is that we are getting near to 1840, the year the USCA finally broke down. They would know that now that they're on their own, they're much weaker than when they were united.
7129533
I see, that's very important, yeah, I see the central american nations trying to open up relationships with Equestria so they could have a big power on their side (just the fact that they stepped in to aid Mexico will open a few doors to them). And I think that after the Pastry War (and whoever it ends), Twilight (and I say Twilight because she is the princess that has shown more disposition to open relationships with the rest of Latin America) should make a tour on America to meet the other presidents:
She would first pass on México to show solidarity with them. After that, she would pass over the Central American nations to start the formation of diplomatic relationships and (if she wants) go to the south.
She would pass over Colombia (Panama and Nueva Granada), then Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia (they still had an opening to the sea at this point in time, they would lose it to Chile in 1879 if I'm not wrong), Chile, Argentina, Brazil, the European colonies, Venezuela and lastly, the Caribbean Sea.
On a side note, if she pass on Venezuela, she would very likely be there during the presidency of Páez (Febraury 1st of 1839 - January 31st of 1843) and I wonder what kind of preconceived image she would have of a general that had the nickname "The Centaur" if we take in consideration that this story is post season 4.
Now that would be an potential comedic moment.
Also, she could potentially meet the Liberal Party (or better said: it's leader, Antonio Leocadio Guzmán) and see the kind of political decisions they searched for so Twilight would hear the two wings of politics: Conservatives and Liberals. Something I consider would be very important for her if she is going to rule in Equestria for who knows how long.
Speaking of Europe: if France brakes relations with Equestria, they would still have the British, Prussia, Russia and Austro-Hungary (for now). Considering that Celestia looks interested in Europe the same way that Twilight is interested in Latin America, I think Celestia may be able to use her skills to keep the potential relationships with the other European powers, after all, she may be a bit authoritarian, but she isn't dumb by any mean.
And I end up this post with the following question: If Twilight is interested in Latin America and Celestia is interested in Europe. Who would be interested in Asia, Luna or Cadence? and where would the other princess be interested in?
Thanks for reading, have a nice day.
Also, before I forget:
It should say 1839
Same mistake.

7129406 personally IF it happens at all in this fic i think canada would make a potential ally i mean if war between the usa and equestria breaks out canada AND the griffion empire breathing down the americans necks equestria and her allies would be a challenge for the usa erm when does canada form in game or irl if we're following in real time?
7130613
Real time was 1867. Although, the process of Canadian Independence was gradual, so even if the first big step was made in 1867, they still mostly answered to the UK, so barring history going off the reails there, it probably wouldn't make that much of a change.
If we're talking of the game it largely depends on what goes on with the UK. Canada can appear much earlier or much later than 1867. I can't speak for vanilla, but the mod has a specific event for the Canadian Dominion to form (similar events exist for other Dominions), and the UK can even choose to not do it if they so choose (after a set amount of time the event will trigger again and will keep doing so until they do grant autonomy, though). But since the AI is conditioned to mostly stick to the historical stuff (key word "mostly"), you rarely see them refuse more than once or so.
Still, I would think this story would have OTL as the highest priority for stuff that isn't subject to be affected much (and so far it doesn't look like Canadian autonomy isn't gonna be one). Then I guess would be mod stuff or it's very own.
7130888 theres a event in that mod to form canada? ive seen at least one equestria vic2 lets play and aar on the paradox forums that sadly never finished so im curious what the event is and what it entails ....but if you can guess im a proud canuck and i for one welcome our equine overlords....however i hope they dont go conversion burau on us but now that i think of it i wish the mod could be used in hearts of iron 4 like some megacampaigns ive read still this fic is pretty good......now i cant wait till sompony makes a stellaris mlp fic its pretty much ck2 but in space its 4x and custom races so if you wanted to play an antro pony race as the .....equestrian principaility mlp style you can so its worth checking out
7130973
Oh no, the event is for the UK, not Equestria. You see, the Equestrian mod... well, there are two mods. One that simply adds Equestria and Griffonia to the vanilla game, and another that is basically a mod of a mod, incorporating the Equestria mod to the POP Demand Mod. The PDM is the one that includes the Dominion events for the UK. And this story if I remember correctly is more attuned to the PDM version than the vanilla one.
Although technically speaking, any nation can "form" Canada since there are country cores for Canada at game-start so it's all a matter of using the "Free People" or "Liberate Country" Casus Belli on the UK. The UK itself can also release it in the Release Nations tab of the Politics section if not through the event.
Funny you mention the CB, since looking at the thread for the PDM version, the last thing that was discussed was incorporating something akin to it. Although last I saw it hasn't gotten a new post since November, so who knows if the mod will get worked on again.
7130987 do you have a link to the thread?
7131000
I can link it, but you need to be registered in the forums to access the modification sub-section.
Here it is for the PDM version.
7131010 hmm i have an account on the forums how do i regester to i need to make a seperate account?
7131010 kept getting an error
7131010 didnt get your message
7131024
If you already have an account in the Paradox forums and still get an Error it's likely that you may also need to register Victoria II. In that case, you would need to actually own the game and have a way for the forums to detect it. Like say, I have the game on Steam and it did checked my Steam account to register it.
7131038 ok i dont have computer i have fricken xbone to which im talking to you on
7129827 Luna for Asia since of all the moon legends. In ancient asia
7131074 maybe cadance could try austalia maybe cuba hawai and the carribian
7130613
Canada... yeah, I can see Canada allying with Equestria and potentially becoming the mediator force between the US and Equestria.
7131074
Luna with Asia... yeah, I can see that, it would also be interesting if she is the one that convinces Japan to open up themselves to other nations.
7131074
Not a bad idea of Luna visiting Asia.
Oh, that reminds me. If Luna does expresses interest in the role of the moon of many human cultures, I would hope she finds out that Mexico is said to mean "In the navel of the moon" in Nahua. I could see her finding it a bit amusing.
The Aztecs/Mexica referred to Lake Texcoco as the Moon Lake, and it was said that the lake back then had the shape of the Moon Rabbit (a legend shared between Mesoamerica and East Asia), and thus Tenochtitlan was located in the "navel", hence Moon/Rabbit's Navel.
Though some would say that instead of the moon the first part of the word Mexico actually refers to the maguey plant (in Nahua both Maguey and Moon are written and pronounced almost the same). Still, I would think the moon one would be the most known and accepted at the time.
7131167
That's awesome.
7131153
I would wonder how Luna would be able to do that. The US pretty much resorted to do it at gun-point by sending warships. I don't think the country would be moved for less. Or at least not before the Meiji Restoration. And that's assuming it can still happen without Japan opening its ports. There is a possibility for accomplishing less, since the Dutch were able to have, if limited, trade with Japan during the Tokugawa Shogunate. Though that still wouldn't solve the closed doors policy of the country.
7131217
Counting aside that Luna has a lot of Magic to marvel them, Equestria is becoming a world power at the same level as the US, so it could be the same route, just that they first tried peacefully and (once Japan refuses) then use the guns.
The other thing that could change is what nations would be able to trade with Japan. Originally it were US, Great Britain and Russia. Now we could change the US with Equestria (unless, somehow, the US still manages to make trade with them), but could there be another nation that could get a chance to have relations with Japan if Equestria is the one that opens it? What about Mexico?
7131281
Well, once Japan opens its ports, the potential is open for any nation interested. Since they still more or less kept to themselves at first, they had to be approached for the idea of trade. So its simply a matter of approaching Japan with the idea and negotiations going smoothly enough. I think Japan kept it at one port per nation, so it puts a limit. Though I don't think in OTL they actually got enough countries to trade with them to use up all their ports. So as it is, its a matter of a country getting the idea of trading with Japan and deciding that it is a good one, and approach them and stuff.
So for a country like Mexico, well, their Pacific coastline does have ports to make the idea viable, like Acapulco, Mazatlán, Manzanillo, and whatever sprung up in Baja California due to Alta California not existing here, meaning no San Francisco. Or at least, no San Francisco up there. For all I know, they could've named a place in Baja after the guy since its bound to be more populated than OTL due to no Alta. But anyway, another thing is that it may probably need another country to act as intermediary due to their status not being as high as those like Russia or the UK... but that would depend if such a thing is needed in the first place. But as for getting the idea itslef... hmm... that would be the biggest hurdle, though being the first, it means the rest of the proccess simply becomes easier.
7131412
Yeah, getting the idea would be hard, that means that (for now) the trading with Japan would only benefit Equestria and Europe.
So here's something else to think about, how were Mexico's relationship with the United States of Central America, both politically and economically speaking?
I ask both for curiosity and for the story, how was Mexico with foreign policies and how do you think it could affect Equestria (both before and after the separations of the USCA)?
7131518
Well, relations didn't got off to a good start. The Captaincy of Guatemala joined Mexico back in 1822. However, Mexico had decided to keep a monarchical government, which didn't sit well with CA. Then there was also Iturbide doing stuff like dissolving Congress, which strained further relations between Mexico and CA. This resulted in the Captaincy declaring independence in 1823. All broke away and formed the USCA, except for Chiapas, who let it up to vote about staying in Mexico, go with the USCA, or be independent from both. While staying with Mexico won, some were unhappy with that. A rebellion happened and in September 1824 the southeast corner of Chiapas, the Soconusco, broke away from Chiapas and joined the USCA, becoming part of the state of Los Altos.
For the following two decades Mexico and the USCA would be in dispute over the Soconusco. This was one of the reasons both declined the proposition of the Congress of Panama, since both wouldn't be satisfied over the fate of the Soconusco. This, however, would finally come to an end when the USCA finally broke up. By the way, I recheck it, and it seems I was wrong in that they broke up in 1840. They did in 1838. Which means in this story the USCA is already gone. Anyway, Los Altos broke in half when the union ended. The eastern part was absorbed into Guatemala, while the west half, the Soconusco, reintegrated back into Chiapas.
Without the USCA, this actually improved the situation. With the union gone, and also gone the dispute over the Soconusco, Mexico opened up diplomatic relations with each of the separated countries. And at least for the remainder of the 19th century, there wasn't much of worth to say about it, as relations were overall stable. They obviously never thought of rejoining Mexico, but there was no longer animosity for the most part anymore. The biggest thing to happen was with Guatemala due to the situation with British Honduras in the latter half of the 19th Century, but it was more an issue of both against the British than between each other.
Economically... well, there isn't much to say. There was trade, though I couldn't find the details about it for the 19th Century. Most I found was the Free Trade Agreements that happened in 2000, but naturally that's already far out from the story's scope.
About Equestria... well, I don't about how it could affect them. But Equestria instead could affect Central American history, even indirectly. Specially after Manifest Destiny. But I'll go over that once we get past the Mexican-American war. For now though, Equestria could open up diplomatic relations with them like Mexico did.
7132233
Thank you, this is really cool (I like to learn history) and thanks for taking your time to answer, don't worry for the economic part, whenever I try to research the economic history of Venezuela, the furthest back it goes is to the discovery of Oil (and I never get an accurate date of when it was started to be used for trade).
By sheer luck I discovered that Páez decided to export Coffee, Cocoa and Leather and that Soublette had to deal with the economic bubbles that were formed from that twice (once each time he was a president). Also, if it weren't because both of the books "Guzmán: Elipse de una ambición de poder" and "La Caída del Liberalismo Amarillo" mentions a few economic stuff, the information I could gather from the 19th century would be mostly political and historical.
It kinda sucks that economy wasn't so covered by our historians.
Ok, I've found a bit of Colombia, but first, some backstory:
After Venezuela and Ecuador separated from The Great Colombia, only Panama and Nueva Granada stayed together.
What once was called The Great Colombia decided to change it's name into the Republic of Nueva Granada (with a new Constitution made in 1832) and it's second elected president (the first one worked to make the new constitution) was Francisco de Paula Santander (March 10th of 1832 - April 1st of 1837), he was originally going to be a President for a year (1832 - 1833) but he was allowed to work for the next four years.
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/Santander_by_Acevedo_Bernal.jpg/220px-Santander_by_Acevedo_Bernal.jpg
Now, just like in Venezuela, the country splitted in 2 political parties: The Conservatives (who advocated for a centralised government and liked Bolívar) and the Federalist (who wanted a federal government and disliked Bolívar). Santander was a Liberal.
Santander is a controversial figure (at least in my opinion) because Colombia loves him:
He focused on making schools, colleges, free education and of many types (Medicine, Laws, Philosophy, etc.).
He started to eliminate the economic systems of the Colony, eliminated the rights of exploitation, reformed the farm laws (although he kept the monopoly of Tobacco, Coffee and Cotton and it's exportation) and he even ended his presidency without making a deficit.
He managed to open up diplomatic relations with Venezuela (1833) and achieved the recognition of the Vatican as an independent nation (the first in Latin America in doing so in 1835) and he is considered as the founder of the "Liberal Party of Colombia" (made in 1848) while Bolívar as the founder of the "Conservative party of Colombia" (1849).
So yeah, Colombia loves Santander since he was a good President, but Venezuela doesn't thinks of him that way.
Venezuela blames Santander for the separation of Venezuela from the Great Colombia (even more than Páez), because while Bolívar (The President of GC) was in the south liberating Perú, Santander (Vice-President) was left in charge of The Great Colombia (and, in extension, of Venezuela, Panamá, Nueva Granada and Ecuador) and Santander only focused on Nueva Granada while neglecting Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela.
The neglect got to the point where Páez got tired of him and decided to start the Cosiata (and Páez was surrounded by the wrong people who convinced him of doing the rebellious act). Later, when Bolívar came back and asked what was going on, he got angered with Santander (Everybody in Venezuela would write him saying that everything was bad while Santander said that everything was fine).
When the murder attempt against Bolívar happened, Santander was blamed while he [Santander] said that he got framed, so Bolívar decided to exile him.
When Santander was in charge, he always defended a centralised government, but when Bolívar moved him out, he started to ask for a Federal Government (so he only wanted to be in charge of his territory and he never cared of the rest of the provinces of GC) and then he started to move the people against Bolívar.
So yeah, while Páez ended up separating Venezuela from The Great Colombia, we blame mainly Santander for that (and his betrayal) while Colombia loves him for his good work on the land.
The next President of Nueva Granada was José Ignacio de Márquez (Liberal) for the constitutional period of April 1st of 1837 to April 1st of 1841.
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c3/Jos%C3%A9_Ignacio_de_M%C3%A1rquez.jpg/220px-Jos%C3%A9_Ignacio_de_M%C3%A1rquez.jpg
He was a General who previously worked during the Great Colombia and now that he was a President, he continued Santander's work with the construction of more schools and colleges.
He defined the debt from the Great Colombia (Nueva Granada would pay 50% of the debt while Venezuela and Ecuador would pay the rest to Great Britain) and he stimulated the national production to stay on day with the payment of the debt.
But in 1840 he made an act that limited the amount of priest that could be in a school to 8, this caused an armed fight from the priests who didn't liked this and while the rebellion was stopped in 2 months, the caudillos who didn't liked the actual government decided to start a war (called the War of the Supremos) which lasted until 1842 (after Ignacio's Presidency).
This civil war caused the stagnation of the economy of the country and damaged severely the country for the farms that were burned.
At the same time, in November 18th of 1840, Panama decided to rebel and became independent, the dissidents were later defeated by the Colonel Anseimo Pineda and Ricardo de la Parra 13 months later. While the war happened, the Congress decided to change the government system from a Centralised System to a Federal System so Panama could be treated respectfully. The victory against the Panamanians would be celebrated in December 31st of 1841 (again, after Ignacio's Presidency) and this would be the most successful attempt of independence from Panama for the rest of the 19th Century.
Ok, with that we've gotten to the present, I'll resume the 1840's later so you [Mint20] can plan up ahead what you want to do with Nueva Granada (they'll change the name to Colombia in 1863). After that I'll go ahead with Ecuador.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
Maybe there should be more changes to this Alternate Earth:
-Japan Westernizes TWO decades earlier under the Shogun Emperor (now one person with one title) thanks to Disgruntled Pony and Griffin instructors and engineers. They conquer Korea in 1903
-The Gatling gun is invented in 1849 and used widely by the Union in the Southern Insurrection (Civil War only last a year with horrendous casualties to the South)
-Reconstruction Era is more oppressive of the South and gives more opportunites to African-Americans, no more slaves.
-A few Indian tribes from the Midwest illegally settle in Equestria. A few Mexican immigrants stay in Equestria
-UK builds railroads connecting Canada to Griffonia and Equestria
7134043
Hmm, that's interesting. But there would need to a proximate cause...I'll see what I can do.
Wait for it...
Laughs evilly...
7134109
Oh boy, what do you have planned? you got me interested and the more we get close to the 1840's the more I want to see what happens next.
7134043
7134109
For Japan to modernize, they first need to rescind their closed doors policy. As it's quite unlikely they will do so while still isolated. If not through Commodore Perry, then through another plausible cause. Though right now, I see none (yes, even taking Equestria into consideration right now, since they looking over to Asia in the forseeable future is still not set in stone). The Shogunate may or may not also need to go as well. Not entirely sure on that one, though.
Hmm, the former I could see it happening, though not as a big or general occurence. I suppose there may have been some who did flee their homelands... but in general the natives opted more to resist or accept being relocated. Hence the Indian Wars lasting throughout the 19th Century. As for receiving proper immigrants... well, if I remember right Equestria still doesn't accept more human immigrants. But I guess that may change in the forseeable future then.
Actually, if this does happen, it's gonna take quite a while. The Canadian rail system would only exist in eastern Canada for the most part for quite a while. It wouldn't be until the 1880's when rails connecting the east with British Columbia would be built. Unless something changed, but not sure on what. So it must mean you have something planned then I'd guess.
7134109 Butterfly effect hits hard when you plop a bunch of magical ponies and gryphons
Wouldn't Fascism/Nazism contain Anti-Pony ideas in them?
I wonder if Communism would be pro-pony?
Wokou Pirates could raid the shores of Equestria
I have a VERY SERIOUS question would it be a crime for a human to eat a Griffin or Pony outside of the two Kingdoms? (Look up Donner Party)
How would Equestria and Griffonia react to the news? Papacy and Human Governments?
Wouldn't suprise me if there are crazy priest in Equestria illegally trying to convert Ponies to the Christian faith
The first Mormon War happens in 1838
Wouldn't poor Ponies and Griffons start leaving to find better jobs and income?
Between trade, overpopulation and westernization expect a lot of poor ponies.
I wonder if circuses would start 'hiring' (or capturing) Ponies and Griffons for their shows?
This version of the US is going to invest more in a bigger and more technologically advance military. Perhaps hire some Swiss and German (kinda ironic) mercenaries
Wouldn't there be new political and religious born all having Anti-pony sentiments throughout the human nations? (I wonder if Brazil or Haiti would vote such a party into power?)
Obviously. But it won't just be humans with those ideas...
Against a fully armed and operational Equestrian battle fleet? I think not...
Fascinating. Probably would depend on the culture and relations with Equestria/Griffonia...
I'd like to see them try...
Probably not. After all, those are human nations. I doubt Equestrians would be able to find a place in human society...
That does not logically follow...perhaps their arrogance (What do we have to fear? They're multicolored ponies! They pose no threat) would allow the Equestrians an opening in their defenses...
7135223
7135124
I'd think anti/pro pony idelogy wouldn't be tied to political ideologies. It's more on the country/people mindset.
I doubt it. Wokou Pirtates only raided east Asia. The Americas are too far away for them.
A good question. I would consider that being fellow sapient creatures, it would be a point in their favor. At the least, humans would think it would be no different from cannibalism. And in the ponys' favor, horse meat, even at the time, was only consumed in parts of the world, while considered illegal in others. But at the end of the day, never understimate the effects on the human mind when presented with an unusual situation. After all, could we bring ourselves to eat, say, an apple if it started talking and begging to not eat it? Or any other apple afterwards for that matter? Assuming that in said situation our hunger isn't life-threatening.
Priests trying? I can see it. "Crazy" or illegaly? Yeah, no, I don't think so. Right now, the most likely options is through Protestant America or Catholic Mexico, and I can't speak for the former but at least over here, we've long abandoned the radical practices of the Spanish Inquisition.
Which you never expect anyway!I don't quite see the US getting more jingoistic. Hiring mercenaries even less so. They don't need to. We're right next to the 1840's, when the US will start reciving in bulk non-Anglo immigrants. Many were forcefully conscripted during wars (example, the Mexican-American war).
I don't think so. In terms of religion ponies wouldn't be treated much different than any other human country with a religion different from another's. As for political, it's more likely that any animosity towards them wouldn't be because they're ponies. Take right now the situation with the Pastry War. If France ends up not liking the ponies, it would be more for their meddling, than because they're not human.
7135124
Fascism/Nazism contains ideals that basically are "Destroy anything that goes against what the nation represents" and normally "what the nation represents" is based around the leader (Hitler and his rascism, Mussolini and Franco against anything that spoke wrong about their governments, etc). But I do wonder, how will Equestria react once they find dictatorships in general?
Nah, Communism is fascism but in the opposite side of the spectrum, I'm talking by personal experience of how it's happening here.
Mint and Tobikage already answered this.
That depends on the country, how tight is the press control in Equestria (including what the princesses allows to enter into the nation) and the news itself. The Pope would be interesting, I could see a big schism between Celestia and the Pope. Human Governments would depend on the president and the country itself.
Impossible, protestants tend to prefer to go into the legal framework (including pentecostals, who are the closest to be considered "crazy" IMO) so they won't go illegally, in fact, they would try to get a permission to first go to Equestria and if they managed to do all that, then I think they would be able to act the way a christian should.
First Equestria and Griffonia must open up diplomatic relationships with other nations and by that, I mean that Celestia must first allow the ponies to leave and most importantly, search for nations that would allow them to work as immigrants. Personally I can vouch that Venezuela, while it may be a bit sceptical at first, they would be open to the immigrants over time, especially if they show that they can be helpful to the country.
There's no sign that there's overpopulation in Equestria and for trade to damage them, the price of the Apple (and any other product they export) must drop to affect their economy in that way. It would help if Equestria allow the Apple family to expand their branches into other nations and try other products to export, that way, money would enter the country and Equestria would stay fine.
What you're asking is fascism focused against the ponies, that could happen during the 20th century if there happens to be ponies in WWI or another war of the same importance in the world. any type of anti-pony sentiment would most likely be born out of political reasons rather than religious (in other words, if the Pastry War goes the way it looks like, Mexico wouldn't allow such party).
I may not know Haití, but I do know that right now, there's a Monarch in Brazil and he wouldn't allow such party to happen: Brazil, like any other nation in Latin America, is trying to open up diplomatic relationships with as much nations as it can to bring stability to its nation. One of the things they're searching for is recognition as an independent nation, something Great Britain, the US and Equestria has been doing right now, it would be very bad to damage any potential relationship with a nation that is open up to help you.
7135223
Again, I vouch that Latin America would allow it... overtime.
Mexico would be the first one for obvious reasons, Colombia is having right now a president that believes in civility and one of Venezuela's greatest things they've been fighting during the whole 19th century is racism. The desire for equality is something that got erased in Venezuela (like the rest of Latin America) over the course of time, granted it would be very hard for the Equestrians for being different species, but in Latin America we tell you apart for the country you come from, not the color of your skin and the biggest racism you may find in Venezuela is a political one (Conservatives hated Liberals and vice versa) not a race one.
Also I just remembered something: Brazil and Argentina had a backstory of hunting down indian tribes through their history of the 19th century, IDK Mexico and in Venezuela we just let them be, we didn't mess with them, they didn't messed with us (although there were some Liberals that argued that the indians deserved to be considered and treated as Venezuelans as much as slaves deserved to be free, but the indians wouldn't ge too much recognition until 1999).
Regarding the ways the Ponies will effect political ideologies, I don't entirely agree. One basic assumption a couple of you are making is: fascists are racists, ponies are non human, therefore fascists will hate ponies. But depending on how Equestria develops, you could argue that Fascists might actually love ponies. Celestia isn't a democrat or a liberal. She's trying to maintain a centralized authoritarian system in which ponies don't have the vote. She got an army that's just demonstrated its martial power by having a few ponies (700) defeat a much large French army. She's stacked her advisory council with right wing imperialist ponies. From the point of view of a 19th century authoritarian, all this is admirable. To use a Mexican example, Santa Anna reputedly once said,
"Say to Mr. Poinsett that it is very true that I threw up my cap for liberty with great ardor, and perfect sincerity, but very soon found the folly of it. A hundred years to come my people will not be fit for liberty. They do not know what it is, unenlightened as they are, and under the influence of a Catholic clergy, a despotism is the proper government for them, but there is no reason why it should not be a wise and virtuous one."
Isn't Celestia very close to being the model of the benevolent despot Santa Ana wished to regard himself as being? If the princesses are politically successful and turn Equestria into a Great Power without granting the vote, some right wing Humans are likely to regard them as role models. Of course right wingers in countries that are hurt by the ponies, like France right now, won't be so admiring. But if a country like Germany, for example, doesn't have a history of conflict with ponies, why should they be hostile to ponies? If Celestia is successful, Bismarck might be regarded as a leader following in her hoofprints. Even the Nazis, despite their genocidal policies towards Slavs, Gypsies, and Jews, had no reluctance to form an alliance with the Japanese, even though the Japanese weren't Aryans. So if Hitler shows up in this timeline, who shouldn't he like ponies, at least until the ponies tell him they don't like him? It's not like he'll worry that interbreeding with ponies will destroy the Aryan race.
Regarding ponies and Marxism, Marx and Engels are certain to be very interested in ponies. They will see Equestria as a country in which the capitalists haven't yet overthrown the old aristocratic rulers, rather like Russia in that respect. They will want to establish contact with ponies who are part of the industrial proletariat, which means, if the Earth ponies are being kept focused on agriculture, that they will probably be most interested in unicorns. At some point, some Marxist pony will probably decide, like Mao did in China, that the agricultural workers, (the Earth ponies) have revolutionary potential, but this will be a bit of a divergence from the standard
Marxist ideology.
I think the biggest effect ponies will have on human thought might be in the areas of science and mysticism. The fact that ponies can perform magic will be an enormous shock, and will lead many humans to think there must be a way humans can perform magic too. Every mystical tradition ever invented, from Isaac Newton's thoughts on alchemy to African voodoo will be examined to see if there is any way it can be made to work. The development of European science and technology may slow down as many brilliant minds spend their time studying occultism. Any pony, like Twilight, who seems able to explain how magic works will have lots of humans trying to contact them. And if anybody really does find a way humans can use magic, all bets are off on how
this story might develop.
Ponies will also have a big effect on the biological sciences. Humans are more likely to easily accept that ponies evolved from a species of horse than they were to accept that humans evolved from a species of ape. A comparison of the pony and human brains is likely to greatly advance neurology.
7135937
You raise an interesting point. However, I when I wrote of those political ideologies, I was mostly thinking - at the risk of airing spoilers - of American political thought. As the Americans will almost certainly be the ones directly fighting the ponies, I think that this timeline's equivalent of fascism/Nazism will originate.
I treat fascism/Nazism slightly differently than "mainstream" right-wing political thought. Yes, I can see; for instance, monarchists in Europe (and Santa Anna) as looking at Equestria as a role model for an enlightened despotic government (assuming that the Princesses hold onto power) but fascism and Nazism are, in my book, a whole other beast.
Side note: the Equestrians haven't actually engaged yet. That's for next chapter.
Marxism will be...interesting. Still haven't quite figured out my approach...but that's a good perspective. Thanks!
That bit on science and mysticism is logical, and I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier!
To elaborate a little more on my last post, the concept of race is to a large degree an ideological and historical construct. Since there really isn't much of a fundamental biological difference between the different human 'races', the way a particular culture subdivides humanity into different races has more to do with the specific historical events which lead certain groups to regard themselves as different from other groups.
By contrast, different species, like ponies and humans, do have a much greater degree of divergence from one another than mere human races. The extent to which different species come into conflict with one another depends on whether they try to fill the same ecological niches. If ponies and humans were more different than they are, then they might have found ways to coexist, with humans filling roles that needed uniquely human traits like hands, while ponies filled roles that needed uniquely equine traits like magic. Both species might hypothetically have benefited greatly from their symbiosis, if they had less in common. The problem for ponies and humans is that they really aren't that different, and therefore that at least some degree of competition for the position of Earth's dominant intelligent species seems almost inevitable.
7136029
Hitler may have opened for an alliance with Japan and Italy, but that doesn't mean that he thought of them greater or equal than him, he respected Italians (and by Italians I mean Mussolini) but the germans didn't. The Germans thought themselves to be the master race, so even if Hitler decided that Equestria is a role model, which so far doesn't looks like, the Nazi Germans wouldn't accept them as equals, in fact, the Nazi germans may be the ones that could hate them the most.
The thing is that Celestia may be becoming a despot, but she still has 3 other princesses who shares the government with her, and so far, the only reason she has the saying now is because both Twilight and Cadence decided to listen to her, but if they decide to not listen to her, Celestia would either have to abide to the decision of the counsel or she would end up trying to find a way to force her rule like any other dictator would and while I can think of a few ways she could do so. that's a story for another moment.
Marxist would certainly have something to say in Equestria, but depending on what the princesses do before Marxism reaches Equestria, the Earth ponies may or may not want anything to do with it. And I really don't think that the Earth Ponies would be the ones that start making revolutions, I think that they would be moved by an Unicorn that decided that the "Bourgeoisie" princesses and their "capitalist" ideas has been causing enough damage to Equestria, someone like Sunlight Glimmer and her desire to erase Cutie Marks (she has the capabilities to influence large masses). There would be soe Earth Ponies interested in Marxism, but those would be either uneducated ponies or greedy ones that just want an excuse to have all the power of the kingdom.
While I do think that the human scientist will try to find a way to do magic, those ideas will die very soon. Most would argue that maybe the ponies can do "magic" because of their biological limitations. Without hands, their "evolutionary lines" decided to adapt to use "an external force" to compensate for their lack of human capabilities. This idea would have a big voice considering that Twilight treats magic like if it were science, not something mystical.
Mysticism would gain some voice, but they would stay as a cult, either the scientific community would say that humans doing magic is impossible or the Catholic Church (and by extension the other Christian Branches) would say that God decided to bless the ponies with a limited version of his powers so they could survive in this harsh world. SO in fact, religion could get highly benefited from magic.
7135987
For marxism I can recommend you to do what happened in Venezuela: in the 19th century (from 1840 onwards) there were some voices who had socialist ideals, but the word "Socialism" never got into Venezuela until the end of the century and, in fact, if you said that word, you would be treated like a heretic.
Maybe there would be some ponies that could have the ideology; Whether it comes from Earth Ponies who would be trying to find a solution to the first economic crisis that Equestria will meet eventually, or it may come from Unicorns that doesn't like the system the princesses have. But none of this ponies would know that the ideology that they would be talking about is socialism, it would be a coincidence.
Things would start to get interesting once said ponies discovers that there's an ideology in Europe that fits with their economical ideas, but that would be once the Princesses allows Equestrians to leave the kingdom.
In that note, I think that this could be te first thing that Celestia would lose: Twilight would like to open up the borders so relationships with Mexico could flourish, Cadence to give more freedom to the ponies and Luna because Equestria already has the power to defend itself and they no longer needs to close the borders. It would be 3 against one, and THEN we could see what Celestia would do to force her rule (and the following reaction of the ponies to that) in the case you want to follow that route, after all, Celestia may just accept it (or try to find a way in the next voting in the counsel).
If you want some tips:
I already told you of how Tadeo Monagas Assaulted the Congress, but that wouldn't fit now. What you could do is that Celestia would try to find an excuse in the law system of Equestria to justify her decisions and un-authorize the other princesses. This would cause a political turmoil with the ponies starting to take sides and the political parties would start to be a thing, whether Celestia likes it or not.
Thanks for reading, have a nice day.
If I remember right, Hitler thought of the Japanese as Honorary Aryans. Though in general, many people at that time saw the Japanese as "a cut above the rest" among the peoples of Asia, so it wasn't just him. He certainly put the Germans at the top, even expressing regret that he couldn't get the British to his side, since the Anglo-Saxons being of Germanic origin, he admired them and saw their overseas empire as a testament of the power of the Germanic people.
I would also think that people wouldn't get that distracted with magic. I can see them accepting that some aspects were created out of necessity. But there are certain other aspects, like pegasi weather manipulation, where that sort of explanation won't fly (hehe). So while I see some definitely trying to see if humans can tap into it, it wouldn't detract significantly. The Church I can also see being accepting of Equestrian magic. Well, it would depend. Christianity itself only seems to condem "magic" if it's not granted by God, or if it was granted through demons and/or requiring stuff like human sacrifices and the like. So it's likely they'd first want to see what's up with the ponies' magic. Come to think of it, is there even have an explanation as to where the magic comes from? I don't think there has been any sort of franchise material that does.... but could be wrong on that.
7136720
Well, since the show never explains where it comes from, if that's the same story here, then it's highly likely that if the investigation ends in "Equestrians magic has an undefined origin and we can't solve that mystery" then the Church would probably say that it was granted by God to help them in their day to day lives. And unless Celestia, Luna, Twilight or Cadence actually has an answer, then the Catholic Church will not only have the last word, but keep Christianity intact until the 21st century.
As a christian myself, I can giggle a little imagining the type of conversations the US/British Protestants and Catholic Mexicans would have with the ponies about religion, God, The Virgin Mary (in the case of Mexico) and Equestria. And since religion tend to be separate from politics, it would be highly likely that this would cause a controversy between the US and Equestria (after all, the christians tend to go where they feel God is sending them, and if they feel the Equestrians need of the word of God, then they'll go to Equestria, preferably under the law to not have any problem whatsoever).
Granted, how this religious aspect goes would depend on how Celestialism works, because if this works by praising Celestia for her control of the Sun (BTW how would that work here?) and her mercy, then this religion will start to fall once Celestia becomes a dictator.
I would really like to see how Celestia would react when she starts to get that title, after all, nobody likes to be called a dictator.
Ok continuing with Nueva Granada:
The next President in Colombia was Pedro Alcántara Herrán for the constitutional period of April 1st of 1841 to April 1st of 1845, a conservative who won because the other candidate didn't got enough votes to win and the Congress decided that he would be a President (interestingly, he got elected while he was in the war to reclaim Panama, so until then, the presidency was held by the interim president Domingo Caycedo, who ruled until Alcántara's return in 1842).
presidentes.co/site/assets/files/1030/presidente-colombiano-pedro-alcantara-herran.jpg
He decided to make a reform to the constitution of 1832 which was disliked by the clergy and his group because it was made by Santander (who died in 1840 while trying to go for the presidency). This reform eliminated the few liberties the states had, it focused a lot more in a centralised government, it only focused on primary school (while giving the clergy the power to be the teachers of the young students) and eliminated the freedom of cult by only allowing Catholicism in Nueva Granada.
He also censored the newspapers, the liberal books and education as a whole. He made a road that connected the Mariquita with the Valley of Cauca. He recopilated the Grenadine legislation. HE allowed the return of the Jesuitas (IDK the translation for that word) and he made a national census on the population.
The next President of the Republic of Nueva Granada was Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera for the constitutional period of 1845 - 1849 (starting and ending in April 1st).
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/be/Tom%C3%A1s_Cipriano_de_Mosquera_2.JPG/200px-Tom%C3%A1s_Cipriano_de_Mosquera_2.JPG
During his presidency, he:
Opened the economy to external trade; in December 12th of 1846 he opened the Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Navigation and Trade with the US (by extension, the US would also trade with Panama). Something to note here: the treaty expressed that the US would be able to use Panama to cross the sea by any means now and in the future, the US would respect Panama as a territory of Nueva Granada among other details. This treaty was the opening of formal relationships between the US and Nueva Granada.
He eliminated the last remnants of the colonial tax and he revitalized the tobacco industry.
The Metric system was implemented in the country.
A political schism between the Country and the catholic Church was started.
The Architect Thomas Reed was hired to build the National Capitol of Colombia.
He finished Alcántara's work on the National Census in the country (so Cipriano got the credit for it).
Promoted the navigation through Steam on the Magdalena river through authorizing in 1849 the exportation in the Port of Barranquilla.
His presidency separated him from those who voted for him, who now was looked as a liberal. After that he went to New York to create a International trade house. He would return in 1854 to help the country after passing through the dictatorship of José María Melo, but more on that later.
And technically with that the 1840's of Nueva Granada are done, thank you for reading and I hope you have found something worthwhile to use here (I'm pretty sure that trade deal with the US may be of use, perhaps to impulse Equestria to open contact with the rest of the continent, or they'll attempt before that? I'll leave that to you, you really know how to surprise us).
And now, to Ecuador.
7136986
I suppose so. Assuming the origin of magic can be found, it probably wouldn't be during the 19th century, due to technological limitations and all that.
I would think that those conversations would depend on what else the ponies believe. After all, I don't think that Celestialism would cover everything. Specially on subjects like the creation of the world, or that of ponykind, and the like. Though what this could be for this story, though, I don't think we've seen yet. I do remember that chapters back it was explained that this Equestria's version of Hearth's Warming had some religious overtones, but that would be it so far. So I can't comment more here without knowing more on the subject.
Control of the sun? Yeah, about that... I don't think it's gonna work with how our Solar System is structured. A star with the dimensions, mass and volume, and distance from Earth... can Celestia really move it? Not to mention, even if she could, the sun rotates on its axis and has its own orbit around the galactic center, being located in a rotating galaxy. It is a death sentence for our solar system if the sun's movement is disrupted, as it would disrupt the orbits of everything that moves around the sun as a result. So yeah...
I wonder what Equestria will do when they hear about the 'Great Potato Famine'. Will they aid the starving Irish (and to a lesser extent, Germans) in simple material aid, or would they consider making exceptions to their anti-human settlement policy?
Focusing back on the present situation now- !Viva Equestria!
7129827
My vote is on Luna for Asia.
Cadence can go visit either Russian Alaska and/or British North America [Canada]. Although Hawaii (or even Maori New Zealand) is a possibility too. Perhaps Persia?
7135937
Are the medical advancements in this Equestria the same as on the show?
Because if so, I think medical Science might have a tremendous leap if Equestria starts opening up (foreign/human) schools and/or sends textbooks, along with some equipment. Maybe Equestria can be like modern Cuba, and have doctors (and other medical experts) be their top export.
7138559
Persia. That's a good idea, what about the middle East and the Balkans (Today Ottoman Empire)?
7138646
If to southeast Europe, might as well go to Greece. And find out about their mythological unicorn and Pegasus.
Heck, the Greeks might as well would be on the shock of their lives when they learn that lots of things from their mythology... are, in fact, real. Unicorns, pegasi, griffons, minotaurs, centaurs, hydras, chimeras... Cerberus! Tartarus! Like... sheesh...
