I'm a long time science fiction and animation fan who stumbled into My Little Pony fandom and got caught -- I guess I'm a Brony Forever now.

T

1438 Years After The Cataclysm, 991 Anno Urbis Conditae, 2500 years before the start of the series - Young Celly and Dissy have discovered their love, but there is another who is jealous of their joy, and dark dreams are rising. Will they know happiness, or will cruel destiny tear them apart?

Very much inspired by Alex Warlorn's Pony POV Series Season Four: Generation Transitions & Origins, especially Episode 54.

Wow. I don't think you could've wedged more dramatic irony in there if you'd tried. In any case, I get the feeling that things will be falling apart in short order. I can't say I'm looking forward to it, but it should be interesting to watch.

(Oh, and one thing to bear in mind: Griffin forelimbs are the avian ones. Their hind legs are the leonine ones.)

Fixed my goof, thanks for pointing it out. Dissy's not that Chaotic. :twilightblush:

This feels rather sweet here; I'm curious to see if you show the break and what it felt like to them at the moment it occured.

And poor Celly, the parts that went into how much time has gone by and how much more she'll see pass. I have to wonder how often she looks at a place that she once knew a thousand years and more gone and sees those old memories.

Worse still the knowledge she must have that one day she'll take a student to some overgrown tumbledown ruins and say, "This used to be called Canterlot."

Given my story tags, it's a reasonable assumption that I will show the break and some of the aftermath, including perhaps some scenes of the very distant aftermath. She no longer trusts Discord, but she can never completely stop caring about him. Aside from their two weeks as lovers, they grew up together for almost two decades as best friends, and then fought one another for a thousand years as not-entirely-deadly enemies (Discord viewed this as "playing with the Sisters and Celestia couldn't bear to kill him, even if she'd known how; Luna managed to disassociate her feelings for Discord from those she had for "Dissy" more completely as we see in Divine Jealousy and the Voice of Reason, but this was far from perfect).

Yeah. It's a sad thing when your old family home is now an archaeological tell twenty-five hundred years old.

5828225 Yeah. It's a sad thing when your old family home is now an archaeological tell twenty-five hundred years old.

On the other hand that can lead to some amusement at times:

"And here we see yet another mysterious Ritual Object, possibly involved with some divine cult among the Paradise Estate ponies..."

:trollestia: "Actually? That's something Dissey and I slapped together when we were 5 out of some mud, cloth, and sticks for a 'doll monster' when we were playing. But thanks for finding it, I never thought I'd see 'Ms. Jub-Jub' again."

That is so like what they would have done that I think now that Ms. Jub-Jub will get a cameo either in this or some future story about young Dissy, Celly and Lulu.

They're not exactly playing with dolls in this story any more, but they still have most of their childlike wonder at the world and innocent belief that everything's going to turn out all right. Sadly, that's about to change for all of them.

I'm noticing I've gotten a 12:6 like:dislike ratio on this story, or 2.0. This is abysmally low for one of my stories, and I don't think it's a stylistic issue -- stylistically, this is one of the most poetic and emotional things I've ever written. I think it's purely a matter of the fact that some people hate Dislestia -- and this story is pure Dislestia (in more than one sense of the word, as it shows that before Discord became evil, their love was beautiful and deeply romantic).

Welp, I know I'm going to be keeping my eye on this for updates.

I really like the poetic style in writing for this. It adds a nice touch, considering this is set in older times, and that's how things were written back then. It's also a nice take on Discord's point of view here.

Looking forward to see more!

The low rating could also be from the somewhat slow start, you spent awhile setting the feeling of the story rather than beginning the story. That's not bad, it gives weight to what's going to happen. It might even out once there is more present. Chapter 1 is very much an introduction with minimal meat.
Or it could be because this is story is looking like a tragedy, people come for the Dislestia not knowing it's in your universe. Longtime readers know where it's going And that it won't end happy.
Could also be because your starting another new story rather than finishing your others. I'll admit I felt a flash of that when I saw this, you have a very active muse.

Could be ... look, some of this is just because I'm describing Celestia and Discord as having been in love, and some of it may be because I'm writing their love as highly-romantic love rather than as raunchy pornography. Not that they weren't highly sexual together, but the tone would be wrong, and it should be obvious that I'm only going to be explicit up to a certain point by the lack of a "Mature" tag. For that matter, if I did have a fully-described sex scene between Celestia and Discord, I would write it more like what Alara J. Rogers did in the second chapter of Be Discreet than as motiveless, emotionless porn.

The Sisters are not pure and passionless virgins -- to be so would be to obviate one of the purposes for which the Cosmic Concepts of Fusion and Gravity chose to Incarnate themselves as Ponies among Ponykind. But neither are they sluts -- they generally don't do "casual sex" at all -- and if Celestia is willing to have sex with someone, it means she seriously loves him. They're sexually-experienced because they've lived for many centuries among Ponykind, not because they hang about in seedy bars looking for random hookups.

The story is a Tragedy precisely because Celestia and Discord really do love each other, but this love is shattered by their incompatible Cosmic destinies. It has to be Tragedy, given that when we first meet Discord he's a stone statue decorating Celestia's gardens in the Palace at Canterlot, and the subject of an unflattering portrayal in stained-glass in the Palace building proper, rather than being Celestia's consort. The fact that they were enemies is utter vanilla canon.

5829120 That is so like what they would have done that I think now that Ms. Jub-Jub will get a cameo either in this or some future story about young Dissy, Celly and Lulu.

Now I have to follow this one just to see that scene.

And I like the story. Kind of surprised to hear that people seriously dislike Dislestia, given that there seems to be a LOT of fan art about that ship.

5832677

Yes, and it's not as if I am portraying their love in some horribly negative light -- I'm showing it as sweet and sentimental, on both sides.

5832931 That you are. Maybe this story just hit the site when all the anti-Dislestia folks were watching?

Cool, another "original" story where all the known creatures that lived more than 1000 years just happened to liive together. Equestria must have been a small place and very depopulated.

5835205

Equestria didn't yet exist save a geographic concept: there were only the Three Tribes, each of which had already become politically divided, forming a loose confederation. The dominant Power on the North Amareican continent was the (Old) Crystal Empire, which covered what is today everything from the outskirts of the central western mountain provinces to the Stormy Sea in the east; from the eastern shores of Half-Moon Bay in the north to what is now Ponyville and Manehattan in the south. The Priestess-Queens of the Lithian Hegemony ruled the southeast; the Speakers of Stalliongrad the northwest to west; and the Queens of the Heartspire the southwest. And this story is not set a mere thousand years before the series, it is set twenty-five hundred years before the series, as my blurb states directly.

The continental population was smaller, however -- in the low tens of millions as opposed to the over a hundred million of today. This is because this was a pre-Industrial world, outside of a few pockets of higher civilization such as the Crystal Empire (which had simple nanotech but no steam engines) and the hidden steading of Paradise Estate (which knew the science of the Age of Wonders and was itself a product of the scientific sorcery of the High Eldren).

The birth of Celestia, Luna and Discord at Paradise Estate within a year of each other was quite the opposite of coincidental. All three are Cosmic beings who chose to incarnate together. When Celly tells Dissy that she was trying to tell him she loved him before, she means many millennia before, when they were the Sun Mare and the Twister in the world of the dawning of Pony civilizations, long before even the coming of the Megan; when she says he's "always" followed her, she's talking about events well before the evolution of Ponykind.

So basically some established headcanon alternate universe where such occurance may take a place?
Well it's still better than most other dislestia stories where they actually use the canon show without even considering that:
A) Discord might not be immortal but might have a normal pony life span around 40 that just happened to be stoned and hibernated for 1000 years. With normal life span it's impossible he would share childhood with Celestia.
B) Discord could have been created out of nowhere(as an experiment or spell) and never had a childhood at all
C) Discord could have been created along with the Harmony millenia before Celestia and Luna
D) Even if we consider that he really happened to have similar lifespan and born at the same time as Celestia, what is the probability that also was raised in a same world and in a same continent and in a same spot as both sisters? (We are considering a world full of ponies and creatures mind you, not Adam and Eve scenario)
F) Finally even if somehow Meghan McCarthy take all this to consideration, there is still a canon evidence that disprove their past as something more than enemies - FiM - KcaFo, books - Journal of the sisters and the comics. All of them are approved by same people - McCarthy, Thiesson, Vogel and Lenard. I would be suprised if they went against their original headcanon (which is an official canon)

Overall i think almost every writer just use all canon elder creatures to somehow know eachother entire life because of possible life span. If Discord wasn't introduced, Celestia would probably always had a past with Luna or Fausticorn. After Discord was established, she is ALWAYS having a romantic or family relationship with Discord. Now after Tirek and Scorpan was established, of course both of them are written to be childhood friends with Discord or even both royal sisters. It's not possible for them to live in 4 different sides of the world with own adventures and only crossing eachother once in their life, right? It's not possible that Celestia spend her childhood with Commander Hurricane or Starswirl. right? Of course not, it must have been the generic villain that lived longer than 100 years.

D) Even if we consider that he really happened to have similar lifespan and born at the same time as Celestia, what is the probability that also was raised in a same world and in a same continent and in a same spot as both sisters?

Very low. If you remember, in the story Celestia says he was always following her. He followed her to be Incarnated at Paradise Acres, even though he was born a year earlier. Time isn't entirely linear for the Cosmics.

Now after Tirek and Scorpan was established, of course both of them are written to be childhood friends with Discord or even both royal sisters.

In some worldlines, no doubt they were. In mine, they were born in Vipralla, a realm in the Himarelayan Mountains, almost all of the way around the Northern Hemisphere from Paradise Estate. They couldn't have been born much farther from Paradise Estate and still have been born on any sizable body of land.

Tirek and Scorpan later met them, of course, but that was some 1000-1400 years after their birth, and some 1100-1500 years befre the show (I haven't yet worked out the timeline).

wow this is amazing so far
ou gonna finish it ?

I'm glad you like it.

I may ... almost certainly will given enough time. My current job uses up almost all my free time Monday-Thursday though, between the work and the commute, so I have to snatch little times to write on the weekend.

So far, the show has been relatively kind to my headcanons. Even the ones I've adopted from other writers.

Loved it. Usually I don't go for shipping fics (in fact I outright disdain them) but something about this excellent fic kept me reading. And whether it is the plot, tragic conclusion, (as a classical mythology enthusiast I have a thing for tragedies) or the stellar writing pushing me forwards I look forward to more.
