Nothing to see here, move along.

Princess Luna accidentally consults a forbidden magical artifact in Canterlot Castle, and learns that Equestria is in great peril. She formulates a plan to save her beloved Kingdom, enlisting the help of the Royal Court. Together, they intervene in the life of one very troubled filly.

Diamond Tiara has had everything handed to her, but this has come at a high price; she is a bully, mistrustful of others and scornful of those she thinks of as beneath her. With the help of the Royal Court, she will be shown her life in a different perspective. Along the way, she will battle her insidious inner demons, and come to realise that, sometimes, having everything means having nothing at all.

This seems fairly interesting; I'll be following it. Although, do note that end punctuation should always go inside the quotation marks, so instead of

"He did this".

You write:

"He did this."

The pacing feels a bit slow, but this is the first chapter, after all. I'll be looking to see where this goes!

5331412 Actually, this is one of the differences in culture between us. In the US, it's commonly done ". but in the UK where I am from, we were always taught .", because a quotation may contain multiple sentences.

More chapters are already written, they will be uploaded as we progress through the holiday season :)

5331438 This actually isn't culture; in literally anywhere with English as a first language, all of the grammar schools absolutely accept that that just won't work. "He said, "He said this."" Actually, the quotation inside should be a '. Although it's a bit hard to see where the quotations are, anything else is not accepted since it'd actually be worse. "He said, 'He said this'." Punctuation always goes inside quotations, and there are no exceptions in either British or American English. I should know, I switched from using American English to British English two years ago, so I have experience in both.

Don't take this as condescending, please! :raritydespair:

5331507 I will defer to your judgement in that case. They have been changed.

5331438 Okay, clarification: I did extra research into the various style manuals, and they reached a general consensus: Periods and commas always go inside all quotation marks regardless of whether they're part of the quote or not. However, question marks, exclamation points, dashes, and semicolons only go inside if they're part of the quote. Otherwise they go outside. Examples:

"He said, 'He said this.' " "He said, 'She said, "This!" ' " "Oh, he said, 'She said this'!"

That should hopefully clear it up. Apparently, the British used to have the (more complicated than textbooks said) general rule of "He said this".
I'm going to look at the British English style manuals again to see if that rule exists still or if it actually has been changed.

5331573 Yeah, this is what the Europa Commission style guide has to say about it: "Quotation marks at the end of a sentence normally precede the concluding full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. ... However, if the quotation itself contains a concluding mark, no full stop is required after the quotation mark." I was actually looking at American style guides in my previous post, my apologies :twilightblush:

5331604 I will default to ." for now, then. More input is appreciated, if you're able to. :)

I think I understand the story now...

5335347 It is. Explanation coming a little later.

Rent? I was under the impression that the Apples owned the farm.

DT has no real friends, not even Silver Spoon. :applecry:

Well, I finally got to this story in my Tracking list. I thought for a moment it was going to completely copy the Christmas Carol plot, but this is actually pretty interesting. Time to keep reading.

The Apples do in fact own the farm, so they don't have much to pay. They've rebuilt I don't know how many barns in the course of the series, haha. And they didn't seem or act any worse off for it. But it's good that DT is finally seeing what she's doing.

Wow. That's terrible. Now I want to know what Future has to say (and who it'll be). Can't wait for the next chapter!

5488206

The idea I was going off of was, yes, they own the farm itself, but not the land (I'm, for creative reasons, assuming a feudal system of land taxes, in the absence of anything concrete).

Next chapter will be coming up later this week, apologies for the delay to those who are tracking this, Christmas did a number on my free time.

5489015 Huh. Interesting. For a moment I thought Celestia said something about them owning the land, but that was from a story, not actual canon. Okay then, it's cleared up.

Okay. This is the first story I read in which Filthy Rich purposely turned his daughter into the bitch she is. I will continue to follow this story.

What does showing Diamond Tiara her past and the present have to do with the fall of Equestria?

Does Filthy Rich know that this was done to his daughter? If he does, he should have his heir apparent taken from him.

Diamond Tiara...is going to need...lots of therapy. And I hope that asylum is forced to foot the bill.

5494586

I haven't forgotten! The conclusion to that is coming, I promise.

She jolted to attention, her mind running through that same memory again. Did… did Sweetie Belle have a crush on me?

That was really unexpected and felt sort of thrown out there for no reason. :unsuresweetie: Otherwise, it's all good. I can't wait until that little school has to face retribution.

5501903

Actually, this ties back to when DT had a crush on somepony, and was completely shut down. DT is making the mental association that Sweetie Belle felt the same way for essentially asking what DT did. DT is, after all, the sum of her experiences.

5503159 Ah, I see. I was skeptical because usually crushes are much less than friendships--the loss of a friendship in that manner is what would trigger a breakdown like that, not the loss of a crush, so I wondered where the assumption came from. Thanks for clarifying!

I wonder what will happen when/if Twilight lets the other three princesses know about what happened to Diamond Tiara at the 'asylum'? What will their reactions be? Did Filthy Rich ever find out about that incident? What will Filthy's reaction be to having a sweet, compassionate DT back?

5510037

There will be answers to those questions, but not necessarily in this story. There is enough fall-out for at least one spin-off.

Expect most things concerning DT to be resolved in this story :)

Wow. That really would have been bad. Hopefully DT makes things right in time. You're really writing a great story here. I can't wait for the next chapter.

When is the next chapter of this story coming out?:fluttershysad:

I ask again. When is the next chapter of this story coming out?:fluttercry:
