Except for the alicorn civil war, and Celestia and Luna adopting each other as sisters, I like it through and through.

Some specifics:
1. "What are we learning about?" Pip Squeak asked, no understanding.
- Struck me as odd, but otherwise dismiss-able.
2. "I don't really have friends," Dinky replied, hanging her head.
"Nonsense! You have me!"
The purple mare blushed and felt slightly weird.
- Awesome. Pip here is coming out as British, but without going extreme on the British clichés.
3. The alicorn civil war bit was too extreme for me that I just skimmed through it, especially since I got the book, "The Journal of the Two Sisters" by Amy Rogers Keating.
4. You may want to link the sequel in a more obvious manner.
