The night of the Gala was meant to be the greatest night of her life.

Then that mare ruined everything.

Octavia doesn't want to hear Pinkie Pie's apologies. They always fall flat.

Chapters (1)
Comments ( 66 )

"No longer worth of the princess."
Probably should be
"No longer worthy of the princess."

"I didn’t mean to doesn’t fix anything but a ponies feelings."
Should be
"I didn’t mean to doesn’t fix anything but a pony's feelings."

"I can not imagine why no one has taken you to taken you to task over this behavior before."
Should be
"I can not imagine why no one has taken you to task over this behavior before."

And the worst part is, Pinkie Pie will be doing this again at the Canterlot Garden Party.

She'll get a taste of her own medicine in Inspiration Manifestation though. Let's see how she likes it when someone turns the birthday party she planned into a high-class shindig.

A couple of grammar mistakes:

I shouldn’t be so harsh I suppose Octavia sighed, retuning her cello.

You should use some italics and comments when doing a thought of a character. Like this:

I shouldn’t be so harsh I suppose, Octavia sighed, retuning her cello.

Second:

*knock knock knock*

That doesn't really fit in well with the story. You should do this instead:

A knock was heard on her front door.

That is all. The story is really good! Have a fav and like!

I'm glad you liked it.
I fixed the italics thing because they were originally in italics when i wrote it. Something messed up in the formatting. But I will leave the knocking bit alone. Even if it doesn't quite fit I liked it the way it was.

5312852
Is this a good reaction or a bad one?

5312902 Good one. I just feel bad for them :pinkiesad2:

SEQUEL?!!!!!

5312913
Ok then. I feel like Octavia might forgive Pinkie eventually but it will be a long time coming. Pinkie's actions did have consequences for others. The rest of the Mane 6 made mistakes, but none that could have affected the livelihood of others and I thought that maybe Octavia might have had some opinions on that.

Glad you liked it tho

5313480

Maybe? I hadn't planned on one (this was kind of a spontaneous bout of writing for me) But I could see writing more along this line :raritywink:

5313516

YES PLEASE!! Don't get me wrong, I like that pink bundle of chaotic joy, but I gotta go with Tavi on this one. Girl has powers that, in certain head-cannons, put her on par with gods from the War Hammer 40K universe...a bit much, I'll admit, but just think about that for a second.

...

...ok, done? Shivering in horror in the corner of the room yet? Good, wanted to get that out of the way.

Now having said that, she DOES need to learn and mature, at least when she ventures outside of Ponyville for anything party related. Primary reason being...Ponyville has Pinkie insurance...rest of the world WISHES they had Pinkie insurance. Also, the whole actions have consequences thing, and NOT have it swept under the rug.

As an additional thought, while finding out how this progresses, I also would be curious to see how the actions of the other Main 6 effected other ponies at the Gala...up for it? Either way, great work and I hope to see more down the line!

5313761
That was my line of thought

As an additional thought, while finding out how this progresses, I also would be curious to see how the actions of the other Main 6 effected other ponies at the Gala...up for it?

It would be an interesting project... I'll see what I can do but it probably won't be until later into December that I get to starting any kind of project like that. I have 40 pages in exam papers due next week so.

I'm super psyched that you liked it so much

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!

In other related news, I have always kinda wondered why nopony holds a grudge against Pinkie, I mean this isn't the first time that she's done stuff like this, and you used one of my favourite background characters in it, so great job on both accounts. You write Pinkie well, and I could actually visualize the scene, I think my only complaint is the length, but that's just because I wish there was more. Great story overall, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel where Pinkie Pie is all depressed because of this and goes to her friends to help her get better, I'm going to have to keep an eye on you Library, I expect more great work.

This story feels like someone criticizing a caffeine addicted adolescent with ADHD for .. doing exactly what Pinky did. Not the "Oh I'm so ADHD" kind, but someone who legitimately has the mental dysfunction and tries to go through life unmedicated.
If Octavia is really going to hold a grudge, it should probably be against whatever maniac invited Pinky in the first place. It's as though she intentionally sowed the seeds of the events destruction or something.
And then admits to it in a public donut shack. Or something.

Octavia is angry right now. It may last it may not. But this event affected her deeply.

I shouldn’t be so harsh I suppose Octavia sighed, retuning her cello. I know she means well. It’s just that... she doesn’t seem to understand what she did.

She understands that Pinkie wasn't trying to run her night or reputation but emotions and logic don't always go hand in hand.
And un- medicated ADHD or not Pinkie still did something that could very well cost her her career. Octavia does have a right to be angry. I'm not convinced that Equestria necessarily has the Psychological background to understand mental disorders like that anyways and as such Pinkie would appear to just be this out of control maniac that doesn't consider others.

I don't hate Pinkie, but there are consequences for actions, whether or not it was entirely her fault and weather or not she meant it.

Wow, I never thought about that. I do understand what Octavia means, having the power of gods, but the sense of responsibility of Pumpkin and Pound cake, is not a good combo. Well, maybe not good nor bad inherently, but certainly dangerous! :pinkiegasp:

It would be nice if this helped Pinkie grow up a little. Sadly Filli Vanilli proves that she's still got a ways to go in terms of thinking before she acts around others. :ajsleepy:

At least she's remorseful, I'd shudder to think what'd happen if she just didn't give any bucks vs. just being irresponsible alone. :derpyderp2:

Good story though! Not the happiest, but not bad by a long shot!

5315319

Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe I just know what it's like being mentally atypical in a world of people who think like this. Ever had your family thrown out of a restaurant when you had a flashback when a waiter drops a plate? Yeah, consequences, yeah, it disturbed their diners, and yeah- it made me feel like the smallest piece of crap in the world for being responsible. Could I help it? Ask anyone who's had a mortar go off twenty feet away... Throw in the whole 'life on the line for the country' thing and lines become a little fuzzy. Black and white blur.
But hey, I'm just a social wreck. One of my battles, kid really, 20 years old and fresh back from his second tour.. Held his wife and infant daughter hostage for 17 hours at gunpoint. What do we do with him? Psychiatric evaluation.. Never saw him again or heard anything but rumors from Levinworth to federal to other than honorable discharge home.
How you treat the kid with untreated ADHD is just another branch of this tree. They and PTSD both make you abnormal, have a different logical process and perception of actions vs consequences.
Tell you what. I'll swap it to a thumbs up if we see a second chapter with one of the most mature and reasonable characters in our fanon extracting her head from her plot and making right. Peace.

5317673

I'm not putting down the mentally atypical (I have my own mental health problems) But I am writing the perspective of a character who doesn't have psychological issues, doesn't know pinkie very well, and had her night ruined.

Not all opinions expressed by a character are the opinions held by the author who has a broader understanding of the situation at hand. Writing a story from a non-omniscient point of view is like peering in through a pin sized hole in the wall and making that the entire world from which the story is written, while the author sees the whole world outside.

I'm not upset that you disapprove of Octavia's attitude, but the story is written in a world where I am not assuming that pinkie has mental health issues (she might she might not. Not gonna take a stance on that) from the point of view of a character that doesn't know, in a world that has little to no knowledge of mental health, and with the thought that Tavi might not care even if she did know.

I'll hope you like any further stories I do, but I'm also not going to change how the characters perceive the world either.

Well at least tavi will hopefully forgive pinkie. Good job liked, faved und a follower!

LET, THE GALAXY,BUUUUUUUUUUUURN!!!

Good story. I love that the show makes a point of preaching forgiveness and understanding, but sometimes they forget the importance of establishing that actions can and do have long-running consequences. More than a few people have found it jarring that the Mane Six were instantly forgiven for their actions at the Gala simply because Celestia found the disaster funny, even though hundreds of ponies suffered just because they wanted to have the night go as planned.

OK, so where's the rest of it? Octavia realizes Pinkie needs to, as it were, grow up -- fine, that's basically correct. Does Pinkie understand that? What happens next? Does Octavia eventually manage to forgive her, before or after she finishes this growing-up process, or is she just using that as an excuse to hold onto her grudge?

We'll never get the answer to any of these, because it's marked Complete! :raritydespair:

Red thumb, because "main character is horrible and should feel bad", all by itself, is a cheap story.

I would agree with Tavi on this one.Ruining the piano of Fredrick Horseshopin and Octavias cello would be a very good reason to be angry, but what about all the other damage Pinky caused at the gala.Pinky Pie is the bearer of the element of laughter, and has defeated Nightmare Moon, Discord and others her actions DO have a much larger effect.

CCC

...this isn't a story.

This is a prologue.

The story that this is leading to is the story of what Pinkie does to try to gain Octavia's forgiveness... and based on what Octavia said, I'd imagine that Pinkie would start by trying, in any way she can, to earn enough to buy Octavia a new cello and Frederick a new piano.

There's lots of ways it can go from here, and there's a lot of humour to be had in the idea of Pinkie trying ever-increasingly bizarre ways to earn extra bits...

I disagree. It is so a story. A short story and thus limited to a single self-contained incident that creates a particular mood. What you suggested would also be a story. A longer story and one that I don't want to write at the moment.

But here's a question. Did you like my story/not-story?

I question "self-contained". Even if someone is very familiar with the world of ponies, it doesn't make much sense unless that person is also familiar with the season one finale in specific.

...I suppose it could be argued that it is rather an epilogue to the first Grand Galloping Gala episode (with built-in sequel hook). It can be difficult to tell a prologue from an epilogue with a sequel hook.

The way I see it, a basic story consists of three parts. The first part is the setup, where the central conflict of the episode is, well, set up. (In Ticket Master, for example, the setup would have been right up until both Rainbow and Applejack asked Twilight to take them to the Gala).

The second part is the main part of the story, where the characters face the problem that was set up in the setup, and where they face a number of obstacles on the way to resolving that problem. (In Ticket Master, obstacles would include the way all of Twilight's other friends wanted to go, and all the ways they tried to persuade Twilight to choose them instead).

The third part is the conclusion, wherein the original situation is either solved, put aside, or proves insurmountable. Once this is done any dangling plot threads are either resolved, or pointed out to the reader as potential sequel hooks. (In Ticket Master, this is the part from when Twilight gets six tickets back from Celestia onwards).

Now, a complex story can have multiple plot arcs, with each individual arc showing more-or-less this progression, and being set-up and concluded at diffferent points throughout the story.

What you have here is a wonderful example of a set-up; and, seen as a set-up, it is really well done and merely needs the rest of the story to make it complete.

Seen as a story... it gives a feeling of incompleteness that bothers me quite a bit.

You have NO idea how much I've wanted to read something like this. No clue at all. Thank you for having that pink pest taken to task for her fuck-ups in that episode. Thank you for her NOT being forgiven. Octavia, you rock.

Sorry does not impress all of the costumers I may have lost over the course of that evening

Customers, perhaps?

yeaaaahhh. my bad. Nobody but me reads these before they get posted so I miss things like that.:facehoof: thanks!

This is a pinkie hate fic plain and simple. Just say you hate pinkie there is no need to write a bash fic about her.

7179249
Not a bash fic. just looking at how her behavior in this one instance might have affected somepony else.

and no one is obligated to like your favorites. you want to only read fics that sing her praises go ahead. that's your choice.

7179357
I don't see anything wrong with her behavior in the episode she was perfectly fine to me. If somepony got their feelings hurt that's their own fault not pinkie's. I like that she doesn't cater to people's feelings and that she does whatever she pleases. Worrying that your actions might offend some stranger all the time is pointless

7179628
Basic social etiquette and not destroying someones very very expensive equipment isn't pointless (do you have any idea how much a cello costs when it's professional quality? (thousands of dollars)). And interfering with someones job (as with the musicians) isn't ok either.

7179653
I didn't know that and niether do I care. If people hate having fun then it's their own fault for being so stuck up. Also it's a cello who the hell cares!? It's a bloody instrument not your arm you can get over it and I don't know not be so offended. Like I said pinkie have no obligation to care if she hurts someone's property. It's called having fun. Why should pinkie concern herself with feelings of stuck up assholes anyway? In case the offended forgot the rest of the mane 6 ruined the gala too so why the hell aren't you offended by rainbow dash's actions? Oh that's right because rainbow dash is a perfect little angel who can do no wrong. Oh but let's bully and shame pinkie because she broke some moron's bloody instrustment. Pinkie was just having fun while dash ruined property. Pinkie doesn't owe the offended an apology because it's their own fault for being oversensitive. Here's what I would say to her if I was pinkie "oh boo hoo I broke your precious wittle insterustment? cry harder it's funny!" If you can't laugh at the suffering of others then fine. This fandom is so pitifully sensitive that it's funny oh no pinkie is having fun TRIGGERED!!!111!!! Never mind that the rest of the characters have done questionable things. No let's pick on poor pinkie because having fun at one's expense is so much far worse then what dash or anyone else has done! Just in the year 2016 people find having fun at the expense of other's offensive.

7179783
The Cello thing isn't being offended. It's Octavia's livelihood. this is how she feeds herself and pays rent.

She's responsible because she and the rest of the Mane six are adults and adults don't get to destroy other people's property without consequences.

And In case you haven't noticed. This is a series about what happened at the gala. This was the First I wrote. I've already wrote and posted the one for AJ who happens to be MY favorite Character. Fluttershy or Dash are next depending on Who I finish first. After those 2 Rarity is scheduled and then a joint piece on Featuring Twilight and Celestia.

7179823
Fair enough. She's my favorite character I just wanted to justify her behavior somehow....

7179866
All good characters have flaws. that's what makes them good characters. :pinkiehappy:

Pinkies flaw just happens to be her tendency to let her enthusiasm overpower her good sense/manners. She's interesting and fun to watch. but i have to imagine she would at times be difficult to LIVE with.

7179885
That's true. If she was perfect I probably wouldn't like her in fact I would find her boring. A character with no flaws just isn't interesting tbh. Ya know the cakes have a huge level of patience to be living with her. That makes the origin of how they met more mysterious.

you clearly dont understand people with social disabilities because this is your refusal to understand them by shaming them for how they act in public. this fanfic makes me want to go out and break people's stuff even more i know its suppose to make you respect it more but instead it just makes me want to break things even more because i know it offends people. People shouldnt get hurt feelings over an inanimate object. its not your pet its not a person. a pet and a person cant be replace but an inanimate object can so getting mad when someone breaks it makes you look like a dick. Pinkie is autistic and the narrator is being very ableist. the moral of the story is be a dick to socially disabled people because they dont act the way you want them too. Maud has a form of autism too i think it runs in the pie family.

5317673
The author is being ablest against people with ADHD and soical disabilties i hope they never have a kid with ADHD or social disabilties because if this is how they think a kid with ADHD or social disabilties should be treated then to hell with them. this author clearly hates people with social disabilities.

7290343
The Author with ADD is being ableist about ADD huh?

and... as this is the point I've made before. It wasn't just an object it was Octavia's livelihood.
Also... where precisely is Pinkie confirmed autistic? Just because you think they are doesn't mean everyone does. I don't.

If you don't like fics that talk about Pinkie in a negative way why did you read this?
