As Twilight draws towards the end of her life, death and the effect it will have on those she is closest with weighs on her mind. One night, seeing her distress, Celestia shares with her a secret belief she holds about death, life, magic, and the connection between them.

Well done, and more touching than I thought it'd be going into it.

My only comment? You misspelled "Celestia" in the beginning of the chapter. Otherwise, excellent job.

Nice little story, and it was well written. Good job!

5238293 how did that get an upvote?
Dude, it's a one-shot. It's meant to be short. And at least the guy took the time to write the thing. If you want it to be done with "more effort", then write one yourself. Don't put shit on the people who go out of their way to entertain us. :facehoof:

5238478 how was that not negative?

5238538 yeah, but when you say "more effort", it sounds like you think they didn't spend long enough on the fic, or that they didn't do a good enough job.

I dunno. :applejackconfused:

I feel like this story might have been better if the ending had implied this was a different, previous Twilight, rather than the present one.

5238691

Huh, that's actually an interesting idea. Although that sort of got touched upon with Celestia's joke.

“You said that the last time I told you all of this.”

5238720
Admittedly, that is a really brilliant way to end a conversation about immortality, and I really love it and am sad I did not come up with it first, because it really is a thing of beauty.

5238470 As the one upvote, I'd like to explain why I supported his opinion: I quite thoroughly enjoyed this story, and gave it an upvote of my own because the concept was very, very cool. That said, I felt like the very, very cool concept could have been explored and expanded upon further to improve the story even more. An example of how to do that would be 5238691 this idea (EDIT: Having said that, I did quite like the subtle nods to that idea throughout). "Could have been" does not mean "story was bad because this was not so". More a lament that such a great thought was not fully developed.

However, that said, I did quite like the idea and the execution regardless.

Not bad, chief.

I do like the sort of 'reincarnation' angle you gave.

Excellent, just excellent! Good ending, totally unexpected.

not a fan of Celestia x Twi but I liked the story anyway. *upvote*

Good job, that was very touching. Keep up the good work.:pinkiehappy:

Congratulations on earning the first favorite I ever gave on this site!

Review time:
Short little Slice of Life fics like this have a way of capturing parts of a subject, in this case the relationship between Twilight and Celestia, in a way that longer stories can't seem to manage. This story in particular does an excellent job of showing the essence of both characters involved. Twilight's worry that she might be a burden is very characteristic of her, as is Celestia's response. I particularly enjoyed the concept of reincarnation touched on. If there is a pony who would know, it would be Celestia or Luna. Her comment on Twilight's reaction last time was very telling. It could mean that twilight has asked this before, or that she had asked in a previous incarnation. Both are probably true, knowing Twilight. Subtle things like this are what give stories their believability and their power.

Very well done.

-Radiant Dusk

New headcanon--with every new life she adds a star to the same starburst pattern. The reason she gained a sixth star in her cutie mark was because becoming an alicorn served as a form of instantaneous death and reincarnation.

The idea of a love lasting multiple lifetimes has always appealed to me.

i really like this story hope to read a sequel

5238550 What are you talking about in this comment?

5238176 What is the name of the guy in your avatar?

5417987 fuck if I know. I can't remember when I wrote those. :twilightoops:

Doesn't have a name that I'm aware of, as he isn't a character. Drawn by someone on DeviantArt.

I almost cried, damn feelings.
Nice story, also a good ending

Celestia cooed and help her tight.

Danke Schoen.

Cute, tugs on the heart. We all question what will happen after we die. Read the other one before this one, and both are amazing.

Thanks. :pinkiehappy:

I wrote a review of this story! It can be found here.

I'm glad i finally got round to reading this story. It's something i've tried myself in 'till we meet again", but I think you did it better

And for whatever reason, this story isn't mentioned anywhere around here...

I'm not sure what exactly what the issue is. This story came first, and TD's was, pretty explicitly, a spiritual sequel. He even asked my permission. I've also acknowledged this elsewhere. Is there anything else you need cleared up?

9475143
I apologize for not making it clear - my intention was not that there was a "problem". I don't expect anyone to time-travel, either. :-)

I just thought it might be a good thing to have it linked here somewhere, and I figured the comments wouldn't be a bad place to do it.

If that was out of line, I apologize.

9475186

Alright. Tone in text and all that. Glad it was cleared up, then.

9475198
Hey, I've nothing against you. :) In fact, I enjoyed the short quite a bit. Not sure if there's a longer story in there, seeing as the entire premise is practically blown wide open by the two shorts, but... It was nice. Short little tearjerker. :)

9475289

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry for any trouble.

9475647
I was the one to inadvertently trot on your hooves, so please don't apologize. :-)

I will admit to being quite new here, and despite the fact that I haven't yet gotten the proper "hang" of this place, I'm already actively commenting. Perhaps I should reel myself in, actually.
