So Sunset does exist here, I wonder what role she plays. First comment!

Perhaps Sunset Shimmer exists here because of Starswirl's Mirror. Think about it: it led into a human world, but apart from the high school, it was never explicitly denied that it was Earth.

But that brings me to a rather curious point - if Sunset is hit with the Potion, will she lose her personality, or just return to being a normally functioning unicorn?

Why does this have a Sunset Shimmer tag?

5229523 Because she's in the story/will be?

Inkwell's segment, and really the whole "Empire" chapter in Calm Before The Storm were some of my favourite scenes from the Spectrumverse. So I can see why you'd think it was a nice idea to pursue his story in the gulag... which, even though it's unlikely to happen, I'm now already hoping will be subject to a mass breakout scene like the one from Vorkuta in COD: Black Ops (one of the few legitimately awesome moments in the piece of fascistic propaganda that is Call of Duty).

This is quite atmospheric and I am intrigued to know what happens next; grammar and spelling are fine, though you do need to correct your use of times in a few places where it abruptly switches between past and present tense. Inkwell is a likeable enough character and I see potential in the future interactions with his very differently-tempered cellmate.

Keep up the good fight against the unholy forces of the Conversion Bureau!

5278687 Well, Vox; you're gonna see more soon

I've just come back from checking out Adrift, the latest story in the Spectrumverse, and comparing it with this one has made me appreciate the challenge it is for individual stories to stand on their own merits. Just for a moment, I'm going to pretend I don't know anything else about Spectrum, not the main story, nor the other side-stories or the TVtropes page.

So far, this story of yours holds up well enough. I believe you do a nice job of getting the essential points across – Equestria is a dystopia attacking Earth, but there are ponies who don't approve of this, and our hero is one such pony who got out of his depth and ended up sent to a gulag.

And if I still feel in the dark as to what Rockwell and his mare accomplice are planning, I'm also curious to keep reading and find out what it is. The only real thing that strikes me as off is that these characters seem to have a bit too much freedom of movement for prisoners.

5308837 Its done to keep them under observation, give them freedoms that they think they have

5308841 Aha, yes, that would be how a Stalinist regime operates. Neat, I foresee that coming into play later.

5308869 Oh it will, now that they think Inkwell is involved

Hi, finally got around to reviewing this.

First off, while I thought Inkwell should've been just a one shot character from Calm, you've done a wonderful job at portraying him.

It doesn't reveal too much as to what Rockwell and the others are up to, and that's good. Keeps us curious.

I look forward for more, good luck!

5318877 Ah well Sledge keep tuned, you're gonna see some interesting things soon enough.

A very good chapter, this, even if the bulk of it consists of a Mr. Exposition explaining the story to a Supporting Protagonist. Though hopefully you'll later show more of the effect this information had on Inkwell's mental state, since he seemed to take these key revelations oddly in stride. And with all of the different mystical entities running around the Spectrumverse, I still feel in the dark as to what exactly the Imprint is supposed to be, but I trust that will be clarified in due time.

What I liked most here was the foreshadowing to the existence of the non-PHL Equestrian resistance faction that TB3 has been talking about introducing in Last Train From Oblivion, and the acknowledgement of the fact that earthponies do indeed have powerful magic of their own, something which is often overlooked both in fanfiction and even the show itself.

Finally, Rockwell's backstory was quite a strong moment. While his apparent immunity to the Bag of Tirek's power strikes me as dangerously close to a Mary Sue trait, if you end up providing a clever explanation consistent with established lore, I'll be assuredly impressed.

5445290 If you're paying attention he wasn't completely immune, him no selling it not only screw up his magic but also gave him a different kind of mind rape.

I have to admit, I was kinda sceptical when you rehashed the wham moment from the main story.

But this? This is a work of art, definitely this story's high point.

Once I get my mitts on my laptop, I can assure you this gets mentions in the main, Heartwarming, Tearjerker, and Awesome pages.

5477690 You know, truth be told Sledge I was planning on having the TCB Twilight's part be shorter than that originally.

BTW to readers: I edited to make Homunculus Pinkie Pie look like this.

You're welcome for the nightmare fuel. :raritywink:

5478623 Kiz, she also looks like Angry Pie from the Reharminaztion Series.

5478623 Dangit Kiz, I was going to sleep.

Cannot unsee.

5479162 It's still different when originally written, it was Kizuna who changed the shout out from Angry Pie to well that.

5479162 i didn't know you based it on that. i guess i didn't pay attention to the details.

Anyways, this is a good chapter, i like it a lot and helped out on some of the details of this. Especially for the new foal scene in Celestia's head, which i am happy to add something that stands out.

Either way, this chapter pretty much sums up one thing.

The Elements are not happy and actively trying to fight back when they can.

5480742 Did you like the part with Rockwell comforting TCB!Pinkie Pie and making her feel happy again?

5480895 5480742 5478623
With Rockwell walking through the Elements's minds remind me of the game Evil Within. and the part with Evil!Pinkie in kitchen remind me of the first part of Evil Within with first enemy of the game.:

And the new foal scene in Celestia's head remind of this pic:

5481944 Awwww dang it, I thought I'd be able to be original and symbolic with the newfoal here.

5482273 5480884
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that you didn't do a scene with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Does that means that Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are faking that they're under control of evil!Celestia and are waiting for the right time to strike?

5481944 Why thank you on the Evil Within comparison. I've been deciding to try my own hoof out on making some nightmare fuel myself. :pinkiecrazy:

5482466 :fluttershysad: the baby is leaving the safety of the warmth we provided...

into the cold depths of hatred...

it is a sad day.

5482485 She's growing up Red... we are f*cked up people to come up with this horrific stuff... also I'd wish Kiz would acknowledge the fact that Homunculous Pinkie Pie is based off of Angry Pie too.

5482494 thats what its called? I thought it was Bot-Pie or something.

5482485 Don't wory, I'm still gonna be the heart and feels person of the group. Don't you worry about that! :ajsmug:

5482515 Cute song

5482504 Yes, that's what the Evil Side of Pinkie Pie is called from the Reharminization story.

5482405 I feel you should go back and reread chapter 3 of Unsung and then reread this chapter on TCB!Rainbow Dash and TCB!Fluttershy; if you can figure it out I'll PM you a spoiler to Unsung.

5482494 *cough*

Still the only guy without nightmare fuel stuff here.

It will come, sooner or later.

5483047 You want me to get you a cough drop Sledge?

5483052 What? I'm just offering you medicine since you had a cough a few minutes prior

This was my favourite chapter in the story so far.

While it covers familiar ground, I was glad to see the return of the Element Bearers' true selves trapped within their own minds. Rockwell's steadfast determination to save them is heartening, and makes me like his character a lot more. Additionally, you made the right call by not showing every last Bearer; by the time Rarity's scene came along, the hopelessness of their situation was all too clear. And I loved small touches like how Pinkie's alternate personalities try to defend her from a demon worse than any of them.

5536447

One particular thing? I'm often good at picking up on little details, yet it may not be any you have in mind...

5536451 Never once did Rockwell encounter TCB Rainbow Dash or TCB Fluttershy's mindscapes.

5536453

Yes... that is something I did mention, and called it a good choice from a narrative perspective.

5536455 No I meant he never did, not once in the previous chapter's flashback there was a comment left of Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash. Rockwell may of not went through them... but I think somepony else did.

5536463

Somepony else did, now? Hm, I think I may know whom that pony was, but I don't want to risk spoilers by talking about him openly here.

5536469 Actually I'm afraid you're wrong Vox, not him; her. Also, for a hint on which her - well; sing us a song then.

5536474

Ah, incorrect answer? Well, colour me surprised. As for singing a song, I'm afraid I haven't seen Rainbow Rocks, meaning I can't provide anything related to Equestria Girls, sorry.

5536480 Then you still aren't correctly; I'll give you a hint from the next chapter:

*Thump thump*

That's the sound her heart makes, it's a such a wonderful thing.
