Between Lines

A purveyor of intelligent literary commentary some of the time, and whatever I feel like the rest of the time.

Being the pinnacle culinary achievement for rising bakers, the Annual Canterlot Bake-Off is one of the largest events of its kind. Ponies Equestria-wide come to show off their crafts, eager to prove the supremacy of their art. To many, it is the first step on the road to greatness.

For Cupcake, it is an unending thorn in her side. Every year she has entered, and every year she has lost to lesser chefs simply because they smile and display emotion.

But she'll keep fighting.

That was a funny read. And now I have to go to deviantart to find out more about Cupcake and Pandora.

It's worth the look! I love writing for these two.

on purpose?

Is this a note from an earlier draft that didn't get deleted? I can't imagine why the grammar and editing would be so off. Even if those things were to be corrected, it still wouldn't make sense though. Besides the application of laughing gas, when would someone not be smiling on purpose?

Structure is still something that needs work in these stories, even though I thought this was much better than Saving Princess Skyla. I had to look over the story several times to understand why Pinkie turned to stone, but not Ms. Harshwhinney. So their's a set of Pandora's cupcakes, and a separate set of Cupcake's? Are they presenting them side-by-side? Are they separate contestants, but set up shop next to each other? If the former, why would Cupcake risk losing something that obviously means a lot to her by associating with Pandora's dangerous treats? If the latter, how and when was Pandora able to get in on such short notice?

What happened with Dinky was awkward as well, since it came out of nowhere. Before then, it was never established she was super competitive, possessive or violent. The issue that Cupcake had with her was already valid, original, and very interesting. The fight seemed to be inserted at the end simply because the author thought "this would sound so cool!" It was this attitude which brought down Saving Princess Skyla.

Formatting error, someone must have slipped that in the Gdocs and I missed it. Admittedly, I was desperate to get this up before midnight of the 31st, so it's far from perfect. It was something I wrote largely for my own amusement, and not to garner critical acclaim.

I suppose I could polish it, but when this already has a better view-to-investment ratio over my legitimate attempts at narrative, there just isn't the motivation.

Oh lord. those two are my new favorite ponies.

Why does Pandora remind me so much of Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2?

They both love explosions?

I'm not gonna lie that was pretty funny. You get a thumbs up from me sir.

They remind me of peppermint patty and marcie.

5725096 I would expect no less from a ninja.

Best rivalry? Best rivalry. Thank you for this.

Also, the irony of Pandora earning a Professional Commendation is even more delicious than the cupcakes.

5225407 probly because they're both fuckin Nuts.

I think both of them would take that as a compliment.

Given the comments I left earlier on And That Made All the Difference, you may be pleased to know that I much prefer the way Pandora was written in this story. In fact, I prefer her in this story to all but one of the ones I read today! :D Gold star!

7340032 Wow, really? This one's older, and my general impression of my stories is "the further back you go, the weaker they get."

what can ya do :B

7340113 I was under the impression do to all the art that cupcake was pinkie's daughter. Is she not?
She directly addressed pinkie as "pinkie" and was utterly unphased by her turning to stone, even Pandora showed more family care for pinkie and referee to her as "aunt" pinkie. And pinkie did not address cupcake as daughter.

7479382 This was actually written *before* that was explicitly stated. Some of these things are *really* old.

7479668 Aye, thank you ^_^
by the way I love your work ^_^

7480556 Why thank you! I'm sorry I haven't responded to more of your comments, I've been awfully busy this week.

7481028 it's kinda what I figured, not everyone can stop their lives and set aside work to talk about ponies with some random guy online XD

If you don't mind the flattery all I've had to go off the whole time it's just the pictures and your stories seems spot-on I am impressed with them and they brought me a lot of entertainment you burn yourself a fan I look forward to any other future projects ^_^

She is her daughter, and she does care, she not going to freak out and panic so easily. Plus she been with Pandora for a long time, she gotten used to her antics, and knows she never hurt her mother on pupose or so. Plus thsi si Pinkie Pie, she be fine.

Lastly she takes after her Auntie Maude, and has the same stony expression and such.
Thou ironicly she has a split personality when she eats too much sugar she goes poofy in her hair and has a crazed smiled, and wild look in her eyes.
Shouting parites and such, it so extreme even Pandora gets scared.

While I wouldn’t have put Dinky as a paragon of sanity I find her relative position in this story to be baffling and immensely entertaining.
