Wisdom Thumbs

I don't have a muse, I have a mule. Early-onset arthritis in both thumbs inspired the handle. If you like pencil art, czech out my DeviantArt page. http://wisdom-thumbs.deviantart.com/

It's a story everyone knows. Nightmare Moon wins, the Princess disappears (sun preserve her), and eternal night descends on Equestria. Darkness begets terror, and terror smothers friendship. In other words, things fall apart exactly as expected. And then ponies get on with their lives. Funny how that works.

Applejack's a natural at getting on with things. But in this world, farming just ain't an option. So what's a pony to do?

Well, in her defense, monster hunting seemed like a nice gig at the time.

Sweet. So this is based on the tumblr? Sounds cool.

No actually it's from before the tumblr, I just never got around to posting it until now. I had never even heard of a vampire hunter Applejack when I wrote this.

Well, if it's just going to be a one-shot... I can only say it's a shame. And even if this had been a spin on the AU from the tumblr, I can honestly say it wouldn't have made a difference to me. I just like like reading Applejack tackling monsters and going on epic adventures.

7/10 still a better love story than Twilight

Great story with really nice action. But it feels more like a prologue rather than just a oneshot to me personally. It really seems to sets itself up for a longer story, with Applejack as the badass monster huntin' lead. But it still works by itself rather nicely.

This version of AJ is, admittedly, not so great at hunting monsters. We're talking bush league here. (thanks for the comment though)

5149356 Well, bush league or not, Applejack shootin' some vampires gets a like from me. :3

This story was rad, but I need more monster hunter AJ. She's not my favorite pony, but it fits her personality somehow. :raritywink:

Now that was just as interesting as it was the first time I read it, only even better now.

The present tense, third person is something I'm not used to, but I'm not the most well read person by far. I also think there was a few tense errors (like, one or two), but I don't remember where they are, and can't honestly be bothered to find them(I'm the best damn editor in the world, and you know it).

My only remark, other than that this version of Applejack is by far the most bad ass thing ever, is that this is kind of strange for a story. What I mean is that it progresses weirdly, for a short. AJ finds monster, AJ kills monster. Cliffhanger ending. That's it. It never really feels like AJ is in danger, and in that, there's almost no conflict. Only the badassness of AJ being a badass keeps me turning the page... so to speak.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But it has an odd pace for a short story. Almost like this is meant to be a deep pool, and looks like one from a distance. However, when you step in it, it's merely a shallow puddle. I dunno, I'm terrible at analogies.

AJ is supposed to be in grave, grave danger when the cliffhanger comes around. But she's not actually in any danger up until then. That's what I was going for, at least. Whether or not I succeeded is up for debate, but it's safe to say the story isn't all there.

Applejack is best Van Helsing! And naming the gun after her brother was a nice touch. :raritywink:

this is amazing!!! its a nice twist and a diffrent story. i love it... are you going to be makeing more chapters?

It's a veri naisu AU. Tells a lot of story in a fluid motion, without any flashbacks, because it's just the idle thoughts and observations of AJ.

I enjoy this AU, even as a one-shot.

Well written. I don't see much wrong aside from the fact that it's in present tense, and this clearly looks like a Chapter 1 of a much longer story.

:fluttershysad: Can I please have more? :fluttershysad:

"Ah'm the one who's day-yed! Ya shudda named tha gun after meeeee!"

Oh goodness, I can hear her say that. And it's hilarious. :rainbowlaugh:

Wonderfully thrilling snapshot of a darker timeline where folks keep keeping on without being all angsty about everything. Thank you for it.
