Despite how much you're trying to make it seem like the game with the sealed room. Saying now there was a remaining puppet that somehow was also a ninja despite the room being marked as clear and allowing him to exit seems rather inconsistent. Is it gonna work like the game or not? Just swapping how shit works around at your convenience is not really the best approach to something like this.

Why is it a cosplayer? Why can't it just be good ol' Dante? It would be so much easier to do that instead of shoe horn in the plot point that the main character is actually just some average shmoe that has to pretend he's the character but not really, but kind of 'cause his personality is being overwritten, but not all the way...
Seriously, Dante get's into weird crap all the time, so the REAL him being sucked into Equestria for one reason or another is rather plausible.
Or, if you want to go for a story about a totally new character that gets similar powers while being transported there because of convinient reasons (Discord playing with reality, Sombra looking for a protege, etc), then you could totally go with that too and also be plausible...
But, seriously, what's the big appeal about cosplayers being turned into characters and being attacked in Equestria? It's redundant, convoluted, and rather pointless. I'm sorry, but this is a big ol' NOPE from me.
It's too bad too. I'm sure you could have portrayed a decent Dante interacting in Equestria... Such a waste.
