Given the choice, few would resist the allure of keeping cold incarnate as their own personal servant; just for kicks, if nothing else.

Lyra would have counted herself as one of those select few. Too bad she doesn't get to choose when she crosses paths with a windigo who thinks otherwise. Things only snowball further when she discovers just how special that clingy ice-ghost is, and she tries to use the creature for the greater good...

*windigo.
I also would have staggered these out to remain in new stories / recently updated longer, but that's just my attentionhound opinion.

Woah, really? My Word keeps flagging "windigo", but "wendigo" seems to be just fine. Maybe an alternate spelling?

As for staggering them out, that's not a bad idea actually! I'll keep it in mind - first story out, so I'm still learning the ropes...

Windego: Equestrian spirit of coldness that feeds off of hatred/anger/other negative emotions

Wendigo: Myththical creature said to be found in northern Canada with a heart of ice and a taste for human flesh

Wendigo (from the show 'supernaturals'): The corrupted spirit or something of a person that resorted to cannibalism for survival for one reason or another and continues that particular habit.

Filly is the term for a female foal. Foal is the term for a child of the horsey variety. Colt is the male term for a foal. Snips is male, ergo, not a filly, at all, ever.:ajbemused:

Well I've done goofed! Good points all around.

she really didn't have any idea who that viscount was.

oh boy.....

A brif nap. Really Lyra? You,re gonna sleep the whole way there

The best thing to do on a train, really!

Because sanity is for the weak. ;)

Oh boy. How will this end?

Well, messing with powers one barely understands always tends to work out well. ;) Just stick around and you'll get to see!

This will be fun,how much to pay for bail?

Whatever our heroine can put her dirty hooves on, pretty much.

Well. I wonder how this will end? :ajbemused:

Getting grounded, with nothing but lukewarm water and some really stale cookies in the room?

I bet that surprise is that Bonbon joined the ranks of crazytown. And that she can see Snowy.

I wonder what kind of servant she got. (I also get a distinct feeling this is very close to the Fate series, mainly Stay Night

Not sure what you're thinking, but if I'm correct in what you're thinking then I think I've got crazier twists in mind. ;)

And yes, this servant "system" is very much inspired by the Fate series. I mean, it would be hard to deny. Also, Fate/Zero has left a huge impression on me... I shudder to think what Unlimited Budget Works will do to my mind.

With that being said, I tried to make these servants a little less... combat-oriented. It wouldn't fit the setting well and to be honest; and it's a pet peeve of mine that most servant-servant interactions in Fate devolve in a deathmatch. I had this feeling they were wasting potential with that.

5624394 True, I can't imagine Trixie and Lyra using their servants to nuke each other out.

So, no Master BonBon here, and here I thought it was obvious...

Well played, good sir. Well played.

5629825 Oh, I do have plans with Bon. Having her be a master would be a little too straightforward, though... besides, it's more fun to get "bystanders" caught up in the game than actual participants, right? ;)

So convoluted...its like trying to unravel the mystery with no idea where to start.....lets see where it goes!

Yeah she managed to figure out what had been done...but realistically, I believe Snowy was ordered to commit those acts

While useful...it appears to have all the subtlety of a bomb, not discriminating between friend and foe.

Starting to think thats not a actual nurse/doctor there

Did nopony tell her that that is PONYVILLE?!

Crazy is Tuesday

Seems this is where things start to slowly go wrong

And now I turn my thoughts towards this enigmatic game master......hes toying with the world..possibly fate itself, and it seems that noone can call him out on it....this cannot end well

And now we see what those costs are, and why its so important to have good and bad memories.

I do have to ask...JUST how long has this Game Master been apart from society? If he was more current he would be aware that in this time, a musician is a JOB, not just something for kicks like it might've been in a earlier period of their history.

I recall the author mentioning pat of the inspiration for this story. Regretfully I have never seen that source material myself, but I keep soldiering' on

We all know this will not be so simple, it never is

Your taking THAT route then I see, for some reason some have issue with Daring Do being her own author and such.

Finally caught up to NOW. The NOW is quite interesting considering shes just thinking over her memories in retrospect

Realistically everything I have mused so far is utterly meaningless, still it does allow for some clues and hints to emerge, even if she doesn't know them herself.

Lets see where this all goes then.

5781886 Whoa, quite so many points to go through. I've been sick for the whole weekend, so do forgive if I may ramble. :D

"While useful...it appears to have all the subtlety of a bomb, not discriminating between friend and foe."
That it does. It's a tool, and powerful tools can wreak a lot of havoc if not used with proper caution. And really, ponies have a sense of caution rivalling that of Kerbals. Which is quite low. As in, "let's strap ourselves to a rocket, ignite it and see how things turn out" low. :)

I do have to ask...JUST how long has this Game Master been apart from society? If he was more current he would be aware that in this time, a musician is a JOB, not just something for kicks like it might've been in a earlier period of their history.
Being a good musician was a job unto itself in the old days as well, actually. The kind which could work their ways into courts and other semi-privileged positions, anyway. As for our lovely GM, there's no such disconnect there. The Source simply aims the kicks where they hurt the most. In case it may not seem like so right now, it will be very evident in the coming chapters. :)

Your taking THAT route then I see, for some reason some have issue with Daring Do being her own author and such.
Ah, yeah. To be honest, I found the show to be somewhat confusing on that. Early on, they made it pretty clear that Twilight was writing those books; then they revealed that Daring Do was, in fact, a living pony. It was really surprising, to say the least. Still, it's not impossible that Twilight would be writing the fictionalized biography of a living pony, with DD penning a more factual one. The whole thing just came off as... odd.

In the end, I decided that my story starts roughly at the end of Season 2, branching off from there. So I kind of disregarded the newer, conflicting detail. What can I say, I'm cheating myself!

So, now that she recalls EVERYTHING Snowy made her forgot as a price, and we know that Twilight was somewhat erased from Equestria (dunno where, but I read it) my guess as to what the price for that cheat is going to be, it will most likely include that: erasing Twilight from the memories of Equestria. And if not, that you have one heck of a doozy plottwist ahead.

And no, I have nothing to pay for cheating you to that answer :P

5948190 You read it in the first two chapters. Which were preeeeeeeeetty long ago. :D We are almost back there, though.

As for the speculation - well, remember: the cheaters themselves must pay the price for their short-cuts. The Source might be (okay, is) a bastard, but it still won't explicitly punish innocent ponies for Lyra's cheat.

...that having been said, the Source doesn't care much about collateral either. :)

Oy, you evolved Lyra into a heartless bastard real quick. Not that I don't like it, buuuuuuut.... I have to agree with Snowy here, she IS a bit rushing the whole thing.

5957604 Well, wouldn't anypony in her hooves be desperate though? She needs to act and to do so quickly; she has somepony willing to ice her for Snowy, after all.

Wow, that was dark.

And I like it.

Ok, this story just took my mind and stuck it in a blender for a few minutes. I'm confused as hell and you know what, its oddly refreshing. Let's see where this story goes.

Yup, they forgot AGAIN to exclude themselves from mind alteration. But I wonder how Lyra still remembers her servant if Lyra ceased to exist.

6218829

Well, the best way to lie if you are unaware of the lie. ;) I suppose one would be reckless if their lives are on the line.

As for the latter, Lyra wouldn't know how she met with Snowy, nor anything else of their shared history. She would simply know that the windigo exists and that it obeys her for some reason - but nothing beyond that.

6245138 So, business as usual in Ponyville. :yay:

6747596 Well, it does have both murder and mystery... :)

I used to be an avid reader of Sherlock Holmes and Ken Follett, so I guess there was some influence in that direction... though then again, with all the books I've read over the years, the net effect of all the influences would be best described as "chaos theory".

Trixie is dead? How, when and why??

6749860 It's because Luna/Celestia's servents twisted Trixie's mind into a different pony entirely. While Origin saw this happening, in his mind he declared her dead.

Gana say he ain't coming back... dropping this off my list. It was good while it lasted.

That was a ridiculous beginning.
Very confusing.
Kinda annoying.
Also Lyra is green, not cyan.
