This is a nice story. It needs a little bit of editing, but it's not too bad.
A second chapter, or an epilogue would be nice. I would love to see what happens as they walk through the marketplace on the way back to the farm. There was bound to be some destruction during the chase.

There is no evidence to suggest that a filly's coat is necessarily the product of their parents coat, if that were true there would be a bunch of grey foals walking around equestria. If anything foals seem to take on the coat of one of their parents, (similar to human genetics), look at the cake twins.

(orange + yellow) nowhere can any combination of Mac's and Fluttershy's mane possibly result in Scootaloo's mane.

4853173 Well we know Scootaloo's parents are alive, (Lauren Faust said so), and Scootaloo seems pretty happy most of the time, so it's unlikely that her living situation is terrible, we know she has her own room somewhere, so the most likely explanation is that Scoots has at least one parent, who is a perfectly nice pony, and we haven't met them yet.
