Capn_Chryssalid

A groovy mystery, gang.

How do you make a story out of a chaotic hodgepodge of ever shifting and random pairings? That's a good question. How do you do that? Anyway, I tried. Heaven help me, I tried.

This fic was inspired by Bronycon and the “Twilight’s Secret Shipfic Folder” card game, which I and other writers there played the hell out of. In fact, it is my attempt at a direct re-creation of a game in narrative form. Bolded words are a direct call-back to the cards being played.
You can also find info about the game itself here. And it was so worth the purchase. No regrets!

This is truly a masterpiece.

Hey Capn! Was wondering what you were up to just today and suddenly bam, new story just as I log in to check for news.

Straight to the to read list, will get to it right after work, thanks in advance.

I'd ship it.

Funny and entertaining, just what I like to see. More stories need this type of structure: pick out phrases and words and make it work!

You, uh, missed a close bold tag somewhere..,

Also this was hilarious and messed up. I want this game more than ever.

Thank goodness you caught that. The labeling of the three players A, B, C put in brackets caused the problem. [ B ] resulted in bold being applied. I should've realized something like that would happen!

It matched the tone and the feel of the game perfectly, we even had the special corner of Apple Family incest. My biggest problem is that it didn't end with an ouroboros of Twilights and Shinings making passionate love to each other as the narrative coherence of the world dissolved, but I think that joke was beaten to death enough at BronyCon. Very fun fic, reminded me of a great card game.

Cap... yesssssss. I'm so glad someone did this, and I'm equally glad it wasn't me.

It kept on going, and going, and going, and it never stopped being absolutely hilarious.

On a side note, to any who have the game, play the cards he plays while reading.

Trust me on this.

~Skeeter The Lurker

You actually did this. You mad, brilliant fool. I have to read it, but I'm scared of what I'm unleashing...

Taken out of contest I'd start wondering what the hell you're on and where I can get some.

As someone who has never heard of this game, I think I can safely speak for all of us poor, deprived souls when I say "What in the name of Celestia's Massive Mammaries have I stumbled upon?!"
:rainbowhuh:

Still a better love story than Twilight though.
:derpytongue2:

So many Applejacks... :applejackconfused:

I... Am equal parts amused and utterly horrified.

You need to be canonised, lionised, and given a Congressional Medal of Honour.

(I’d throw in the Nobel Peace Prize too, but that’s long since lost all meaning.)

Now do this for your next six games.

TSSSF is just brilliant

Pfffffff, fantastic :rainbowkiss:

I feel dumb for asking this, but I won't know unless I ask. I was looking over the cards, and two of them I see references to something called "magical follies" cards are "Leaving on a Personal Crusade" and "Oops! Wrong Spell." What is "Magical Follies" exactly if anything. Given the time of night I probably won't get a response soon, but it still perks my interest and I'd like to know. The rest of the references appear to be a famous shipfic story, but it doesn't appear to be the same with this one.

Ah, I see what you mean. Magical Follies, as in the flavor quote used at the bottom of the card.I don't think it is a real fic... yet. They just used the name to go with the silly flavor text. :raritywink:

Eh, still a better love story than Equestria Girls Twilight. :ajsmug:

Still a better love story than Twilight! And the BEST love story I have ever seen! :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

oh my god chryssalid what have you wrought.

I also bought this game at BronyCon, and it was worth the price just to go through the decks and read the cards aloud to my wife. :rainbowlaugh:

This story -- which I will read when I have more time -- appears at first to be diving down to Inception levels of fandom; it's a fanfic inspired by a card game inspired by fanfics inspired by a TV show. :derpyderp1: [Insert loud horns.]

4993157 In this case, I'm not sure we can go deeper! Or even Derper, for that matter. :derpytongue2:

And then they kissed.
:raritystarry::raritystarry::raritystarry::raritystarry::raritystarry:

...What in Luna's little stars and comets.

I guess I'm obligated to buy this game as soon as I can.

...So since Trixie is in the Princess Pile does that make her an unofficial Princess? :trixieshiftleft:

Have a (very confused! So VERY confused!) like.

All the flavor text on the cards are from Twilights shipfics.
As such none of them sadly exists outside of the game itself.
Some of those sound horrible but interesting nonetheless.

Nice work. This is more cracky than a kilo of benzoylmethylecgonine.

"Here's my card."

I don't know whether I'm more horrified or more amused... either way, this was quite the read! Very enjoyable! XD I doubt my own attempts at writing fanfics based on TSSSF will work out nearly so well.

An excellent demonstration of the cracktastic fun to be had with TSSSF! This fic does not have enough upvotes, I think I'll go change that.

PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THIS STORY.

Seriously, this is amazing.

....:rainbowhuh:

I.....I'm sorry. :raritydespair:

Many kudos and much respect for tackling such a difficult and sprawling premise, but I just couldn't finish this. :raritycry: I only made it as far as Detention - the randomness.....just.....too painful to bear!

PS - Though if I ever get the chance, I'll recommend this fic be read in full at the next convention I attend, there's often a panel for best/worst fic readings, and this has a little of both

Shouldn't it be a dragon hoard?

Also the story is hilarious (the "my magic couldn't backfire that badly" just made my day and the Rarity finale when things started making sense against all reason was an awesome punchline to the story.)

in other news, the very mention of a riding crop spoiled my fun... it just proves how traumatizing 8-verse stories are to read...

This isn't unlike the plot of a fever dream.

That said, not enough genderbent Ahuizotl.

5003690 5003739 does this imply that somewhere there is a serafinb?

5279163 I didn't make it all the way either, at some point brain goes TILT. I intend to come back and keep trying.

5322786 depends on how many dragons are involved. Possibly its a hoarded horde.

5380666 could there ever REALLY be enough genderbent Ahuizotl.

5796681 If there is, then clearly we shall have to track them down and fuse together, voltron style, and become the ultimate.

5797217
5796681 Yes, the ultimate! Serefinz!

“What’s this pony stealing, anyway?”
“Books.”

Not me. Not a pony. Didn't steal books.

Neat story. I... got things to uhm... bye!

This was beautiful, I'm not sure if I should be excuited or terrified at the open end meaning there could be a SEQUEL
