Epilogue - A Fateful Decision [Edited]

A Fateful Decision

Udina’s Office, Human Embassy, Citadel

January 15th, 2183 CE

Donnel Udina sat behind his desk, slumped in his chair. He glared at the massive amount of datapads spread out in front of him. It felt like he had spent a lifetime already going over the choices and he had long since passed his threshold for the day, falling back into his grumpy old ways. Whatever they chose today would influence the course of humanity forever. He couldn’t help but think that he had earned the right to be crabby, even if just for the day, and in this particular meeting.

He grabbed his cooling cup of coffee and drained it, grimacing as he sucked down the dregs. He picked up another one of the datapads, reading it with tired eyes. It had all become a blur to him, and he barely even saw the text anymore. He knew them all by heart anyway, he’d read through them so many times.

Glancing up, he looked at the other occupants of his office. Seated on the other side of the table, Admiral Steven Hackett was in much the same position as Udina, slumped down in his chair. A grizzled veteran, he bore scars from fighting at Shanxi, his hair turning grey. Admiral Hackett was the Commander of the Navies, and he was by far one of the best tacticians humanity had ever produced.

Opposite Hackett, Captain David Anderson was leaning forward against the table, somehow having managed to stay more focused on the task at hand. He was one of the deadliest humans in the galaxy, one of the first to ever achieve the N7 designation in the special forces and responsible for countless successful missions.

“Well, what about Shepard? A colonist... but no record of her family.” Udina glanced down at the datapad on Shepard. He knew some of her story, and he vaguely remembered hearing her name in the news, but she was mostly an unknown to him.

Anderson picked up the relevant datapad, speed-reading through it. “The records were lost during the raid. She was raised in Equestria. Learned to look after herself.”

He didn’t need to actually read any of it, but Anderson didn’t let the others know. He had carefully kept his relation to Shepard as quiet as possible after she had enlisted with the marines herself.

“She saw her whole unit die on Akuze. She could have some serious scars.” Hackett glanced at Anderson. The relationship between Shepard and the Captain was known in certain circles. Hackett just so happened to run in quite a few of them. He imagined that he probably knew more of the story than most in the galaxy.

Anderson stared right back at Hackett, not giving an inch, his expression telling the Admiral that he should know better. Hackett didn’t back down, not intimidated by Anderson in the slightest. That in itself was impressive. There weren’t very many people who wanted to mess with the most decorated special forces operator to ever have enlisted with the Alliance.

“Every soldier has scars. Shepard’s a survivor.” Anderson finally spoke.

“Is that the kind of woman that we want protecting the galaxy?” Udina said, having missed the interaction between Hackett and Anderson.
“That’s the only kind of woman who can protect the galaxy,” Anderson said.

Udina nodded, scanning the datapad for a moment longer. It was important that he was completely sure. This decision could affect the course of human history, after all.

“I’ll make the call.”

Also... before there is any confusion, this is a FemShep series. Despite the youtube video above (couldn't find one with FemShep), Shepard is definitely female. She checked just this morning and confirmed it to me.

can't wait for the next story

celestia really isn't putting a candidate forward?

4970098 The Systems Alliance is a separate entity to Equestria. They are the ones who are pushing for a seat on the Council, the Princesses far too busy making sure that their subjects make the transition into the galaxy as a whole to care about the same. The ponies have had a much harder time than humanity because of the large tech gap between when the Sphere was shattered and the galaxy at large. They are still reeling from the effects of that.

Also, I do believe that Celestia would approve of Shepard if she did have a voice on the Alliance's forum. :moustache:

That also isn't to say that Equestira won't get a Spectre of their own later on down the road.

4970116 despite there lack of military history from what you've mentioned about tech equestria should already be being considered for a council seat seeing as they are comparable to the asari meaning if and when they become a serious threat which likely won't take long they well superceed both humanity and the turian hierchy as a military entity.

4970129 Celestia and Luna haven't pushed for it, and the Council doesn't really want to be the first to say anything to them. Equestria has undergone a shift from 18th century tech to 22nd century in less than three generations. The Princesses are making sure they get that under control before spreading themselves too thin.

I do agree that they could easily get a Council seat if they so desired. They don't at the moment though.

4970139 still i pity the skillian verge when they get there hooves under them.

4970146 You should.:pinkiecrazy:

4970153 not alot thought batarians are bastards, yes thats racist but you know what? it's damned true! there racists sexist bastards who's civilizations main exports are all criminal activities.

1. Gilda's wings will be explored in the story after this next one (which is a prequel).
2. Eh... they're cartoons. I couldn't come up with anything else. I figure that ponies are more familiar with griffins and have some substitute that is the equivalent. Take that as you will.

The batarians are a mixed between human and krogan. They have a history of fight and bad actions but if they don't fight in the open, they loke to do so like the krogans. They also can't deny they greed and seek for always more like humanity. The problem is that they don't have the same empathy than the human and imaginary fault are all they need to declare someone their target.

4970694 I would say they are more like the Turians and the Vorcha. They are heavily traditional, but they are also incredibly violent and prone to falling back on their more base instincts.

True. I think that the fact they don't have a specie's unity like the human don't help. The to big number of tribes must be a hell to coordinate and in this chaos, it must not be difficult to find a reason to hate the others, wohever they are. That don't help they seem to see a raider who killed and rapped a whole bunch as a hero if he doesn't attack others batarians.

A wonderful story. Huge Mass Effect fan. Saw your profile pic on a comment to another story, wanted a closer look. Saw you had a story, and lo and behold, it's a Mass Effect Crossover. Thought I would give it a try. Then found myself spending my whole evening reading this in one sitting.

I loved the world building you put into this. MLPxME crossovers can be a hard sell, but I have seen lots of ways others try to make them work. Your approach is refreshing. I would love to learn more about the Dyson Sphere and its opening. You have set the stage well for your next story.

My only complaint is the amount of spelling and grammar errors. It felt like you improved as the story went on, but parts of the beginning and middle had me cringe at some the the auto correct fails. Simple things that could be corrected with a read through. I'm not acting like I know what I'm doing, I've never wrote anything or proof read for anyone, but if I saw it, others who know what they are doing are sure to see it. I don't remember seeing any mention of a pre-reader or editor, it might be something to look into. I'm pretty sure there are groups on this site that offer their resources for this.

Still, after saying all that, I still whole heartily will like and favorite this excellent story. I eagerly await your next story, and hope to watch it from Day 1.

4976042 I heartily acknowledge that there are quite a few issues with this story, the spelling and grammar the least of these. I simply don't have the time or drive to edit something that I am ultimately doing for pleasure and no other reason. I am glad that you were able to look past the problems and read the whole thing! I had no pre-reader or editors, and though I am part of a writing group that mercilessly tears apart my original fiction, I have never shown them any of my fanfiction.

Who knows, maybe one of these days I'll go through and fix everything that I am sure is there. I just have to find the time first! :scootangel:

Thank you for your very encouraging review. :yay:

I can imagine Octavia's wife saying her final words over a commlink like Steve Cortez's husband did. "I love you. But I know you, don't let my death anchor you down, Steve. For me..."

So Shepherd and Rainbow are siblings.

a Side Story in the First Meetings Universe

Link please!

This story is a sequel to Mass Effect: Shepard and the Rainbows

Mass Effect: Shepard and the Rainbows

4987483 Strange, the site's saying that it's the other way around...

4987555 Shattered Record, Broken Wings is a side story that just so happened to complete first before I even began writing anything else. Shepard and the Rainbows is the first story in the chronology and the beginning of all of the actual events in this universe. I hope that clears it up for you!

4987555 I have gone back and fixed everything so that it reads the correct way. Good catch! :ajsmug:

Interesting :moustache:
Can you give me the link of the other First Meetings universe?

4990133 It's right up there at the top of the page. Click the link in the top of the description.

4993696 Well, Shanxi was a pretty awful sticking point for humanity in the canon M.E. universe, with General Williams surrender to the Turians. That never happened here, and the Turians were repelled, which is yet another change that will end up having huge ramifications down the line. :pinkiegasp:

4998511 Well... Not here... Kind of a strange place to ask. :ajbemused:

5040353 That is indeed a typo. I do this as a hobby and rarely have time to do any editing. The mistake you pointed out though, is now fixed. :rainbowderp:

is there a core for the mass effect part of this fic like the pokemon ones or is this all your work?

5049584 Well, there's the prequel to this story... if that's what your asking. I don't fully understand the question. :rainbowhuh:

That was a great story  I can't wait to keep up with your universe as you create at  I want to see Sheperd and Rainbow Dash pull off some crazy stunts. :twilightblush: I also can't wait to see how Twilight's and Gilda's relationship goes, never seen this pairing :twilightblush: This was a great story and I look forward to experiencing your universe further

Now that she's been to the Citadel and seen real humans, what will Twilight think when she follows Sunset Shimmer through the mirror?

And sees all the weird looking "humans" in the EQG world?

And what about the Sirens, will Sunset still be able to defeat them with a seven-light Rainbow of Harmony?

Quite liked this story. I do not know about the story in the mass effect 1 timeline but for the mass effect 2 timeline it would be neat if Twilight and Gilda after graduating the navy college rescued and resurrected Shepard instead of Cerberus. Twilight could pull a James Kirk and go on the missions with Shepard and her other friends even though she would be the captain and taking directions from Shepard.

You left so many possibilities with this universe it's neat. I am usually not a fan with breaking cannon but you only did with a few specific events and did not break personalities. Looking forward to future updates.

5458446 The Councillor's certainly agree.

5622524 From what I can tell, that chapter got messed up somewhere in copying it over and you're the first to notice. I've fixed the problem and it should be 'readable' now.

5623436 Oh god. Now you're making me cry. I'm trying to write the first chapter to Gathering Storm, and now I'm balling my eyes out after rereading my own chapter (metaphorically at least).

It really, really fits.

Have a hug. Thanks.

While femship is not my thing, I read for the story...so, onward to the new arc!
For the swarm!...uh...nope, not changing it.

5646799 I like to imagine that Blueblood was an unmitigated ass because he was bored and had nothing to do. Here, he's an ambassador. It probably helps keep the shitty parts suppressed.

Well then... I changed the video link if you still want to listen

5688476 Somehow, I completely missed this comment. Keep reading. :scootangel: I would take a look on up at the short form of the description.

5739555 le sigh... :facehoof:

I thought I got everything. I'll get on that.

5739584 I know I edited that somewhere... it might have been ff.net... :facehoof:

He knew some of her story, and he vaguely remembered hearing her name in the news, but she was mostly an unknown to him.

The huge contested court case didn't ring any bells?

5815555 Why thank you! Have a Spike. :moustache:

6315275 That would be a mistake, and I need to remember what it actually is before I change it. :facehoof:

Dame this story!! :twilightangry2:

It made me cry Too many times!!:fluttercry::fluttercry::fluttercry:

why the sudden time skip i want to know what happend in these 10 years
