Chapter Nine: Broken Mind
“Mommy why are the ponies trying to hurt us, I don’t understand?”
“I don’t know little one, just stay behind me, I’ll keep you…”
Chrysalis shook her head violently to shake the memories, her head pounding from the mental stress the hive mind was putting her under. “Just a little longer,” she thought, “I just need a little more time.”
“All rise for the honorable judge Felt Tip.”
Chrysalis rose to her hooves along with the rest of the room, waiting for the elderly mare to take her seat between Celestia and Luna before sitting down again, and then waiting for her to speak.
“This court has gathered to address the crimes of one Chrysalis, Queen of the changeling hive, who attacked us two months ago during the wedding of our beloved Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, will the defendant please stand.”
Chrysalis once again rose to her hooves, “your honor.”
“RUN ELDER BERRY RUN, I’LL HOLD THEM OFF, JUST RUN…!”
“…have something you wish to say to the court, before charges are levied against you?”
“Yes I do,” said Chrysalis, thanking the stars that she was able to read lips as she suppressed the voices in her head. “I want it known that my changelings should not be held accountable for their actions during the wedding of Princess Cadenza, I am the only one who should be held accountable for those events.”
“And why do you believe that should be the case?”
“Because they were starving, and because of that they became completely devoid of free will and choice, thus making it easy for me to take over their minds using the hive mind. I believe the best way I could put it is if a pony like you were to make somepony due something under the influence of drugs.”
The judge looked baffled, “and are you saying that your changelings would not have gone along with your attack had they not been starving.”
“No they would not; in fact they would have deposed me and waited till I could breed a replacement queen, before ending my responsibilities as focal point for the hive mind and branding me outcast.”
The judge looked surprised, and then leaned back to talk to the princesses, but chrysalis was unable to make out what they were saying do to another memory surfacing within her mind as her head began pounding.
“Just little bit longer Chitter, were almost to the Crystal Empire, just please hold on a little…”
It ebbed quickly, ebbing off in time for Chrysalis to see the judge nodding to the princesses before leaning forward to speak.
“Very well, let the record show that the defendant has taken full responsibility for the actions of her subjects, and that they are not to be held accountable for said actions due to being under mental coercion by their queen.”
She heard the court secretary jotting down the notes, and once again her head began pounding as another memory plagued her.
“PLEASE STOP, WE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING TO YOU, WERE JUST REFUGIES FROM THE BADLANDS SEEKING SHELTER, WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ATTACK ON CANTERLOT! PLEASE! STOP!"
“Bring forth the char…”
“THEY WERE JUST FOALS, YOU FUCKING MURDERES, THEY WERE JUST FOALS!”
“…Chrysalis, you are charged with kidnapping and impersonating one of Equestria’s royals, controlling the minds of several ponies, attacking…”
“Don’t look children, it will be over soon, just…just keep your eyes closed and don’t look…”
It finally became too much for her to try and repress, and with a flash green light and the sound of splintering bone, she began to fall, and the last thing she saw was Celestia leaping toward her with a letter clutched in her magical grasp, screaming her name as she fell into darkness.

My own headcanon says that Chrysalis shall be judged by the spirits of three ancient rulers. Each representing body mind and soul. They will inflict the pain she cause to those three domains back to her in order to infuse her with empathy and make her a better Queen.

Can in this fiction. A healthy changeling is capable of acting fully independently, and Twilight can likely take on some degree of leadership.
5129886 My headcanon says this. There are three ancient changeling rulers Kings and Queens that lived a long time ago. Each time a new ruler would come they would judge him/her with one rule. To be empathetic.
Seeing as empathy is a characteristic changelings bear i figured it would be the one rule they would judge their rulers. There are three aspects of empathy:Mind, Heart, and Soul. If one forgets what the other thinks then he/she is not a good ruler, if one forgets what the heart feels then one is not a good ruler, if one does not heed the soul of others one is not a good ruler.
That doesn't mean you can't be somewhat evil. You can be a conqueror, you can be a martyr or whatever you wish... so long as you keep the world ((both friend and foe)) in mind in your victories and defeats then you are a good ruler.
As an attempt to fix those whos' paths went astray the spirits of those Kings and Queens attempt to make the judged feel what he should feel. It is a fair ((imho)) judgement that doesn't exclude compensation for war expenses e.t.c. It might sound harsh but it is a judgement that's ideal and gives punishment and teaches a lesson to the accused.

I really hope Twilight and the other princesses can knock some sense into Shiny before he does something completely unforgivable...although I believe he's already crossed that line without realizing it (so we can't hold it against him yet). I'd burn down the world to keep my family safe.

5132234 I think i have a work around, A egg can be safely removed in about a month after being put in. and the gestation could take longer. But admittedly to wrote yourself into a corner on this since you needed the New castle for the hive plan. Otherwise you could have done Twilight still a Unicorn
I am liking this story so far, but try to read it through after writing. You use the "I am telling you X, for there is a reason Y causes X" formula far too heavily... You string what really should simply be new sentences together int he process. You also frequently skip the use of contractions, opting for less natural and formal sounding word pairs like "can not" or "did not" as opposed to "can't or "didn't". It works well with Luna's occasionally awkward speech... As for everypony else...
Well, it reads like Commander Data trying to read from The Bible.
Still, keep up the interesting story. I got up to the part where Twi is explaining things to the rest of the mane 6 in the castle. Looking forward to reading more... Just... read your work after you write it, and don't be afraid to tweak things that don't come off as natural.
My mental spellcheck lets me ignore a lot, but those two things really stand out, and even stump my own mental spellcheck!
Please don't take this in any negative way... I just want to see future chapters of a story I like become even better than they could be! Keep up the good work!
