4954729 Nah of course not. That start in life is a really grim one. A hard spanking I could understand. But whipping until it bleeds and by judging from the after effects quite heavily. Probably also left permanent horrific scars on her back.
Thats not disciplinary; thats torture. The new warden probably hate kids... Why she would take over an orphanage when she does is beyond my understanding.
The really cute image dragged me in, the grim(and a little horrific) first chapter made me stay.
PS: The first chapter made it quite clear that its a changeling pony hybrid. You might wanna try to lamp shade that if that was not your original intent.
4956149 Violet took over the orphanage because it was a good investment at the time, it lightened her image, etc. And she kinda just hates ponies in general. :P Just small details I didn't think we're necessary. And (disclaimer) she actually is not a changing hybrid. She is 100% pony, but the exact origins I have planned in a sequel ;) any suggestions as to how I can make that clearer in the story?

It was these combined with green magic (so the unicorn had green eyes then) made it seem like a changeling.
The two lines are completely redundant. Not to mention they had not named her seemed a bit odd as well. It should be known that if you leave someone at a orphanage then it's to be expected that they know how to take care of children and babies.
Also I got the vibe that she is very small or very smart for her age,. That also lent to the belief of hybridisation.

but I can say that they didn't know what she liked or didn't like to eat or drink (that's what it was meant to be) because she never really complained about anything as an infant. She is in fact a bit smarter, but from experience that no child should have to go through. This story is (inspired) by my own personal past, obviously with a twist to it to make it more interesting than an author's biography, so there are some secrets involved. In the second story, there will be explanations for everything, I Pinkie Promise
