I expected the letter to have been written by Trixie
I loved this story! It always felt heart touching, not to mention I do feel VERY sympathetic for Twilight, since my house actually did burn down like 5 years ago, but 'tis is well now.
I wouldn't mind a second chapter/ epilogue which wrapped up anything and/ or showed us who wrote the letter. I have half a mind to think it's Discord, but it's probably not him, since he would also be writing sorry in there.
You shouldn't use more than one exclamation point.
Also, there needs to be a paragraph break after: And I shall never see you give up.
Very sweet story, I thought. Just glad you didn't say "Great and Powerful Friend".
One wonders how Twilight will cope with the library's destruction in the new series, or if it'll even be mentioned at all.

Actually; there is an entire episode devoted to the tree in Season 5.
That was pretty sad.
But it was also really nice to see that there is somepony else who felt the same as Twilight.
