The brutish hippogryph Gander has decided to settle down in Equestria for the time being, to learn more of himself and his peaceful pony kin. What he discovers is that not all ponies are sugar and spice, and even the brightest of lights cast a long shadow. When a new threat finds its way into the hectic downtown heart of Baltimare, the griffon-raised warrior will find his strength put to the test. Can he protect his new home and friends from a growing violence in the city streets?

Can he protect them from the violence in himself?

The sequel to Taking a Gander.

Well, I for one am looking forward to more! :pinkiehappy:

Thanks, NobleValor, I'll do my best not to keep you waiting.

I'd hoped this went without saying, but I would greatly appreciate anyone disliking my story to add a reason why in the comments. I can't improve or justify my writing if I don't know what people find questionable.

For example, it could be said that this chapter builds the main character up too much, turns him into an unstoppable Superman-esque cardboard cutout. That's actually kind of the point and something of a misdirection, as I was writing from the perspective of the terrified ponies introduced in the chapter. Their fear builds him up into something he's not and makes him larger than life, much closer to how Batman is portrayed rather than Superman. Criminals know him as a force of nature due to his fear-based persona, when really he's a guy in a suit. Note, a very strong and very well-trained man, but not a superpower. In any case, that's why this was the prologue instead of an actual chapter, and the next chapters will be from Gander's point of view to bring him back down to earth.

4803457 Thanks for the advice. Still trying to work out this site. That last reply's lack of reply shouldn't cause too much trouble, since most of it was an announcement to all readers.

I'd really like to know why the story's getting as many dislikes as it is likes... maybe an editing group might help. Time to start looking.

“You’re a loose cannon, le Gannet.”
“I get a cannon?”
“I... wasn’t even going to dignify that with a response, but then I remembered who I was talking to.”

:rainbowlaugh: That actually got me to laugh out loud. This work has got my upvote already

Started reading once more and got caught up. I forgot how much fun these characters were! Looking forward to more when you get an opportunity.

Also, I get the sneaking suspicion that the 'apology hug' will come up later. Also, I think I know who the immediate leak is, but I shall hold my reservations until I have more to work with.

Thanks for staying invested! I've been down for the count recently, but I have recently been working on getting back into the saddle. Hearing I've still got your attention does wonders for the motivation, let me tell you. Chapter six is running long, halfway through it and it's already as long as the previous chapter, so I'm hard at work there. So far, a good deal of it is just playing Gander's and Ducky's personalities against each other, but I'll be working on some action, world-building, and plot movement before I ship it out.

If you'd like a tidbit to tide you over, I've got a crossover short story that I wrote for a contest a couple weeks back. Check out The Exterminator if you're into post apocalyptic blatant movie rip-offs.

Hmm, maybe I can work on a little more subtlety... evil plots are brewing already. And hugs are always important, especially when weaponized.

Thanks for reading,

Excellently written! And I love the characters! :pinkiehappy:

You really have an eye for characterization. And the dialogue between Gumshoes and Gander was hilarious! :rainbowlaugh:

This is awesome! The party was hilarious, especially the castle, and I the fight was very amusing as well! :pinkiehappy:

What is the crest on the story actually for? I happen to have something from my grandfather sporting the same crest.
