By the time you see me, its too late. I'm gone and you have perished. Glimpses are hard to come by when seeking the Lone Wolves of the Light

Sequels1

Twilight has successfully restored her friends' cutie marks to normal. But something still remains to be fixed.

Starswirl the Bearded's spell.

But something happens to Twilight... Something that makes her friends prove what they would do for her.

Based off of Black Gryph0n and Bassik's song: Another End. The final song in their IMmortal album. The link isn't for a YouTube Video because they aren't all there. The link is to their bandcamp page where you can listen to all the songs in the album.

*claps* Best take on this concept I've ever encountered.

4771572 Um... What about a 15-year old?

Huh. Interesting you chose to write about this. Twi's immortality is going to come up in the fic you're editing.:trollestia:

Well, you certainly know how to bring the feels. I in fact got a little misty. That's not easy to do!:pinkiesad2:

4771782 Well then I shall feel as if I have done a great accomplishment!

Continuity error: Spike was not upstairs sitting out the song sequence. He was on his way back from Ponyville's business district with the empty Elements chest.

4771799 Okay, but you also have to remember that he wasn't shown after Pinkie got her element put on. He could have been anywhere, and for this story, he was in the library.

4771807 That's the reason I fucking hate that song. The chorus describes his relationship with the mane six better than anyone else's, yet he wasn't part of the group hug.

After all the destinies are fixed, he can be seen right next to Applejack. Even if he had beaten them back to the library, he would've been waiting for them, not upstairs missing out on everything.

4771841 Hmm... I see your point. Sadly, I cannot change what the show has done. Only manipulate it in a sick and twisted thing you might call this story... And hope that other people actually like it...

So other than that one moment, what did you think of this story?

4771856 Cool idea, decently executed. There were a few grammatical errors (too many commas, Celestia using a double negative) and off-key emotional responses (Spike becoming apprehensive at the mention of Twilight despite knowing nothing of the nature of the letter he's being asked to transcribe) that made it hard to read.

4771876 Hmm... Thanks. I shall take what you've said and try to make any other stories I make even better.

Again, thank you for your honest opinion.

Cadance actually ascended into an alicorn just like Twilight, but I really like the direction this story took. It's more positive.

It's a joke about how old fogeys er I mean people who aren't yet middle aged come to resent mortality a lot more than when they were younger. So I guess it'd apply to 15 year olds too. The truth is anyone can write a story where Twilight is happy or sad about being immortalized, of any age. The comic is just poking fun at how people's opinion of death can change as they get closer to death, and those people can then go on to write Twilight discovering her immortality.

Immortality is a curse. You may live forever and never die, but you watch all those around you, even your closest friends, perish.

Oh?
But what if EVERYONE could be immortal, hmm?

4821319 Then what would ever get done? Every day would become nearly the same to you, not experiencing something new or different. There may be new ponies to interact with, but they will eventually become just like you.

They'll eventually find their special talents, and live the rest of their lives doing that, if their lives would end.

Everyone would be wise, and yet, dumb. We find all new and old knowledge, and there would eventually be nothing left to do. We'd become bored with living.

And no matter how hard we tried, we could never die... Not from age, not from trying to kill ourselves, nothing. It may hurt... a lot... but we'd never die.

Would you really want to life forever, even if your friends did live forever with you?

That's why we have new generations while the old ones stay together, and grow together, and fulfill their lives together. They come up with new ideas and theories, and they make everything new. We may lose our ideas, but they will come up with new ones.

Immortality is a curse... there is no changing that, no matter how hard we try.

(sorry for the bad formatting: I tried to type this up three times and my browser kept refreshing)

"nothing would ever get done"
ok, whut?

" Every day would become nearly the same to you, not experiencing something new or different. There may be new ponies to interact with, but they will eventually become just like you."
If you're using the show as evidence, tell me: are luna and celestia converging into the same personality?
doesn't seem that way to me. ESPECIALLY since those two are repeatedly compared to the eastern yin and yang.

and normal humans?
trust me, normal humans aren't gonna converge.

"They'll eventually find their special talents, and live the rest of their lives doing that, if their lives would end."

why should the stupid cutie mark limit a pony to just that one thing? sure, they might be GOOD at say, tasting icecream, but even an idiot-savant pony might eventually develop interests in more random stuff, like roofing...but they won't all converge: some ponies will forever hate pounding nails, while others will happily pound nail after nail to make an epic dot-picture out of...nails. even if they keep hitting themself with the hammer. Even when their original special talent is flower-growing....rule of large numbers and all that.

As for us humans? humans are even more general-purpose than ponies in our mental makeup.

"That's why we have new generations while the old ones stay together, and grow together, and fulfill their lives together. They come up with new ideas and theories, and they make everything new. We may lose our ideas, but they will come up with new ones"

Your point?
Who says we need to get rid of the old generations to get new ideas? Just use a bit of 'bay'sean statistics to weed out bad ideas, and voila. More time to live=more time to learn more and more complicated ideas.

4821678 I'm not going to argue anymore over this. I don't care who's right or not. I'm a bit depressed, and I'm not going to do this anymore.

I should have faved this when I first read it! Sorry.:derpytongue2:

one o them

Of them.

There was a "they" that needed to be capitalized somewhere in there, too.

5101455 I'm curious to where this is. I'll gladly fix it, but I need to know where it is.

5101466 W

hat about my friends? they helped me create this new magic, didn't they?

5101479 Thank you, but I was also curious about that "One of them" you were talking about. I can't seem to find it.

5101508

Each one o them was clueless to what was going on.

5101540 Thank you. I fixed it.

I must admit that as a transhumanist I strongly disagree in believing immortality to be a curse, but this was a good take on that concept even if I don't agree with the moral.

Thus, onward to the sequel!

Y'know, there's a surprising lack of 'holy shit you fucking bitch you MURDERED ME in whatever attempted chess move this was supposed to be'.

5101919 There is... Huh...

I would be a bit pissed myself if my mentor and teacher killed me just so I could live forever at there side. Immortaility might be awesome in all but I wouldn't want to die just so I could get it.
Also not suprised that when you die, Death puts you on trial. Best part might be whatever laws he uses won't be the laws you have lived with through your lifetime.

5102562 I'd be glad that wouldn't happen too. I mean, the laws of our world don't judge for everyday life and your basic 'self' throughout your lifetime.

I have to say that while I liked the story, I have to disagree with you on the whole immortality thing but that is beside the point, you did you an excellent job of showing the power of the love that friends have for each other, especially these friends, the only thing I can fault is how death let her go so easily, even creating magic from nothing like she did, I would think that would make him want her that much more. Overall I liked the idea behind the story and it is touching. It does make one think about what actually happened when twilight ascended and thus far I have liked this one more than most

5120458 Thank you! If you plan on reading the sequel, I hope you enjoy that one as much as this one.

A beautiful story! I completely agree with your opinion about immortality! I would do the same thing!:raritystarry:

Love it. It was a wonderful and interesting read.

Nice story! I agree with Twilight's decision.

This story is a sequel to Centuries

:| Except that story is password protected. Why? If this is a sequel I kinda want to read the one before it.

5801687 Its because I planned to make the prequel to it after making this story and its sequel. That message still shows, even if the story isn't out. I should probably take care of that.

I really like this story, especially how they bring Twilight back at the end.

7686963 Friends do that.

7687171
yeah, it was just, well, the best version of an alternate ending to MMC I've seen, though it does bend a bit of the show's events to suit itself it's minor enough to not be so egregious like I've seen in other stories. I needed to read this because I've been emotionally drained for the the last couple days and unable to want to do anything. I feel a bit better after reading this, now I want to sleep

7687209 Well, I'm glad I made you feel better with a story I wrote over 2 years ago
