Alaborn

Somewhere in the USA. Probably older than you. And something about MLP:FIM makes me want to write stories. Unfortunately, being gainfully employed cuts into my writing time.

E

Fluttershy, inspired by the antics of her cute animal friends, writes a song.

It’s not right for the Ponytones, but it’s just right for Equestria.

In this story, the ponies in the music industry are professionals and fairly share profits with the recording artists. I know. I'm probably stretching the whole magic of friendship thing to its breaking point to allow that.

Confession time: What would you say is the most embarrassing music you've been exposed to? It could be from your parents, a sibling, or even your 14 year old self.

Time to read:moustache:

Most embarrassing music? Oy...

I'm not sure if they're embarrassing, as such, but there are certainly songs that I used to listen to back in the 70s or 80s that I really wouldn't care to hear again for various reasons. "Stars on 45" comes to mind; that's such a product of its time that when you listen to it now, divorced from the surrounding context of the era, it really doesn't hold up and you can't help wondering how it ever became a hit...

4702111 Somewhat like the fantasy where publishing houses are willing to share book profits with authors. Totally unbelievable.

Did you know there's a version of this song with hamster?

Now I actually want to hear a recording of this song by Fluttershy!

4704767 Stars on 45 had one redeeming quality. It led "Weird Al" Yankovic to record Polkas on 45 for his album In 3-D, leading to the grand tradition of polka medleys on his albums.

Well, yes, there is that. :rainbowlaugh:

and besides, Applejack’s pig Wilbur lived a long and happy life.

Wilbur! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :raritydespair:

So wouldn’t it be terribly dishonest for me to sing it, when the song is called I Write The Songs?”

Wow, that takes me back. Thanks for reminding me that I'm freaking old. :rainbowlaugh:

4705435 You're not old. We not-old types need to stick together (Insert Granny Smith icon here.) And I threw in the joke even though, according to the all-knowing Wikipedia, the I in that song is God and references the spirit of creativity in everypony.

4705629 Huh, I always took it to be a Muse. Too much time reading mythology I guess. :ajbemused:

I felt like I was missing the joke till I got to the end.

4705786 The good thing about song lyrics is you have broad latitude to interpret them. And is there anything more teenager-y than sitting around talking about the meaning of song lyrics? See? We're not old.

4705941 Well maybe buying booze with a fake ID. :pinkiehappy: But yay, we're not old!

4706280 Pshaw. Get that senior to buy booze for you.

Every time I try to downvote it, I miss and hit the upvote. Damn, I hit the favorite button. Can't undo that one easily...

I still don't know what I just read.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I started this one, but it turned out quite sweet. Fluttershy making strides, Spike getting to do something, all most enjoyable.

Also, I could've sworn I've heard the synthesizer solo in another pony context...

In any case, thank you for a delightful little oddball of a story.

He was some pig, alright. :pinkiesad2:

Spike asked "Rarity , Who are the Village Ponies? They really liked my hat":yay::raritywink::moustache:
