The Royal Guard has intensified their training regimen after countless attacks on Canterlot. The Night Guard, the elite soldiers trained to protect Princess Luna during the evening, are similar to the Royal Guard, only ten times tougher.
Undeterred by the challenges that await him, Pipsqueak (now a full grown stallion) signs up to join the most elite soldiers in all of Equestria... The Night Guard.
He isn’t doing it for the fame or glory. Pip is motivated by one goal and one goal only: to fulfill a promise he made as a foal. He will become the guardian of the night.
This story is technically a sequel to The Dream Stalker, but it is not necessary to read that story first in order to understand this one.

4667168 That's why they have different courses, but that only puts Scootaloo at a disadvantage due to her lack of earth Magic. That is going to hurt her in the long run. As I said. I hope I am proven wrong about Phantom, but from my initial impression, he sees like a racist.
I took it less as racism and more as extreme pride in the Night Guard and very high standards with a healthy dose of "all new recruits are worthless until proven otherwise". The two batponies have proven themselves to not be worthless, and the only other one who managed to get a decent time did so by basically ignoring the course entirely because she's a cripple. And now she wants to be treated as an equal in the most elite unit there is.
Basically, he's not looking down on them because they aren't bat ponies, but because they're a bunch of raw recruits, one of whom is incapable of one of the core aspects of what her job will be, two are bumbling idiots and the others haven't done anything to earn his respect other than not be utter failures.
Hm... Well, it might be unfair but on the battlefield, no one is playing fair.

I fully expect Pip to lose this match, but to manage to hold his own reasonably well. Enough that Thunder Clash at least is impressed, even if he doesn't admit it. For the rest, I'm actually kinda curious about what Snips and Snails' actual talent is. Cause what I'm picturing is basically that all of the bat ponies' stuff back in the barracks just got wrecked.

If Mist is the one I think she is (I can't be bothered to go back and check, but is she the one with the 'heightened blood smelling' cutie mark?) then it may be a fact that she can smell it TOO well, to the point where actual BLOOD right in front of her is too overpowering as a smell.

I theory, is Night guards were talking about Thunder betraying the norm that only Bat ponies are allowed to join the Night guard. I think as well Luna stop visiting Pip, because she was developing feelings towards him.
