Rainbow Dash flew through the air, still fuming about Mare Do Well, the mysterious pony that had ruined Rainbow Dawn's career. Her career of being Ponyville's number hero! Now, even her best friends thought Mare Do Well was a better hero!
I'll show them, Rainbow Dash thought. I'll save somepony right now! But as she flew through the streets, nothing appeared out of the ordinary.
"Where's an out of control vehicle when you need one?" Rainbow Dash groaned, scanning the streets for signs of trouble. She swooped closer to the street looking in every direction.
Suddenly, Rainbow Dash heard a high pitched giggle coming from one house.
"Pinkie Pie!" Rainbow Dash gasped. She flew over to a window of the house and peered in. She blinked.
"There's got to be something wrong with my vision," Rainbow Dash said in astonishment.
She couldn't believe her eyes.
Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Twilight Sparkle stood inside the room, all dressed in Mare Do Well outfits! Next to them, Fluttershy stood in only the cape, while Rarity looked on in approval.
"These are probably one of my best designs!" Rainbow Dash heard Rarity say.
"They're amazing, Rarity!" Pinkie agreed. "I loved wearing this when I was running through the construction sight! And I still love wearing it!" Rainbow Dash watched Pinkie snuggle herself.
"And the best part is our plan is foolproof!" Twilight exclaimed. "I'm sure we'll wear her down soon, though."
"Wear me down?" Rainbow Dash whispered. "I've got to go in there and give them a piece of my mind!" She stalked around to the front door. But just before she bucked it open, she stopped.
"Maybe they're just talking about Mare Do Well," she reasoned, fluttering her wings. "Yeah, that's a good explanation. They're trying to be loyal to me, so they'll put her out of business. Without my help." Rainbow Dash nodded with false confidence. She flew up into the sky and her confident smile crumbled.
"Who am I kidding?" She asked herself. "They don't want me to be a hero! They're trying to upstage me!" Rainbow flipped in the air.
"That's all there is to it!" Rainbow was certain of it. "All they want to do is get rid of my heroness!" An idea passed through Rainbow Dash's mind.
"Well, I'll show them!" Rainbow Dash smirked. She flew back to the ground and calmly knocked on the door. She heard the frantic rushing from inside, probably trying to get the costumes off and hidden.
"I'll be right there!" Rarity called from inside. Rainbow Dash forced the smirk of her face. She need to act natural if this was going to work. This brilliant plan of hers.
After a moment, Rarity opened the door.
"Oh, uh, Rainbow Dash! How lovely to see you!" She exclaimed.
"It's great to see you, too, Rares!" Rainbow Dash replied as she flew in, feigning excitement. "Hey girls, I have some big news to tell you!"
"What is it?" asked Pinkie Pie, leaning in eagerly.
"I'm leaving Ponyville!" Rainbow Dash announced, plastering a giant grin on her face.
"WHAT?" All five of them gasped. Rainbow Dash nodded.
"That's right!" Rainbow Dash confirmed. "I'm sorry to leave you, but I can't stay in an area where nopony appreciates my skills. That Mare Do Well, everypony likes her better. So, I'm leaving to be the hero of another town! What do you think?" They all stared at her in speechless shock. Rainbow Dash nodded again.
"I know, I'll miss you, too. And I'm really sorry I'll probably never see you again, but, you know, duty calls!" Rainbow Dash gathered them in one big hug, then released them.
"But you can't go!" Twilight gasped. "You're the Element of Loyalty! You have to stay here with the other Elements!" Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, genuinely annoyed at Twilight's reasoning.
"Is that the only reason you keep me around, Twilight? I've already made up my mind about leaving. Good bye!" She flew out of the house so fast the door slammed shut behind her.
"This is gonna be so awesome!" She squealed quietly. The more she thought about it, the more she realized she meant every word she had said. If her friends prevented her from being a hero in Ponyville, she could just be a hero somewhere else! Besides, there was no way they would go through the trouble to track her down and ruin her ego again. If they did, Rainbow Dash figured it indicated they were crazy stalkers, and she wouldn't want to be friends with them anyway.
Rainbow flew up to her house and flew upstairs. There wasn't much to pack, besides some bits and a Wonderbolts poster. She looked over at Tank, who sat in his cage.
"Should I take you, buddy?" She asked aloud. Tank slowly blinked. Rainbow Dash nodded.
"You're right. You're my pet, and you deserve to come with me!"
As she tidied up her house, Rainbow Dash thought about her number one fan, Scootaloo. Rainbow Dash wondered if she'd even miss a filly who would dump her for the latest fad in half a second.
"She was nice, I guess," Rainbow Dash decided. "Maybe even like a little sister. But I can't stick around here." She snapped her suitcase shut, grabbed Tank from his cage, and flew off to the train station. She would probably miss Fluttershy the most. But that would fade, Rainbow Dash knew. They deserved this slap in the face. Rainbow smiled and pushed all regrets out of her mind.
~
Rarity needed her drama couch right about now. Fluttershy was crying, Pinkie Pie's hair had deflated, and Applejack and Twilight were just standing and talking.
"Of all the worst possible things," Rarity cried through tears, "this is The. Worst. Possible. THING! And I really mean it this time!" She blew her nose into a spare tissue.
"We should have just talked to her!" Fluttershy whimpered. "We shouldn't have challenged her like that." Pinkie Pie patted Fluttershy's head sympathetically, but she said nothing.
"Now, listen hear y'all," Applejack began. "It's sure a shame that Rainbow Dash is leavin', but it's her choice, an' we can't be the ones to stop her."
"But what if she's made a bad choice?" Rarity asked, blowing her nose again. Applejack's ears flopped down.
"Ah don't want her to go any more than you do, but movin' somewhere new ain't a bad choice. It's a choice. It ain't good or bad."
"We should explain that we were Mare Do Well," Twilight suggested softly.
"Somepony has to tell Scootaloo!" Rarity exclaimed suddenly. "Sweetie Belle is always rambling how Rainbow Dash is Scootaloo's idol. We need to tell her!"
"I guess we need to talk to Rainbow Dash," Pinkie Pie said. Her mane spoofed up a bit. "Maybe we can convince her not to leave!"
"We can try," Twilight agreed. The five friends left the house and cantered to Rainbow Dash's house.
"Rainbow Dash!" Twilight shouted. "Rainbow Dash, all you there?" Nopony replied. Fluttershy flew up to the door. A minute later, she flew back down.
"She's not there," Fluttershy admitted quietly. The other four stared at her.
"Ah guess, Ah guess she's gone now," Applejack said. Fluttershy and Rarity could barely stop tears from forming in their eyes.
"I'm sure this isn't the end," Twilight stated softly, looking up into the sky. "Don't worry, girls, we'll see her again."
Hey! It's EXACTLY what I would have done in that scenario!
Good fic. Honestly f&$k that episode
Rainbow Dash is such a troll... So, there's going to be more? Maybe the next chapter takes place in the future? Well, this story gets a like.
It was interesting but you should look over it again I saw some noticeable mistakes (which I would point out if I wasn't on a phone)
Honestly, I think this would have made a better lesson than the one in the episode.
First story in new story list.
Already has over 100 views.
Well then...
Hi. I think this is good but as many people have told me, you need to check your work before posting it. Some of the spelling mistakes can take you out of the flow and be distracting. If you just take a quick look you should be able to find them easily!
I hope you do "party of one".
4598432 Me too.
4598566 Maybe
4598433 I forgot to mark it as complete again, sorry.
4598483 Fixed
4598708 Yeah, I go on and I have a million notices in my inbox!
4598768 Maybe I will!
4598802 That's okay, I understand.
4598852 wait. what? that's it? no journey to find Rainbow? no reaction from Scootaloo? no seeing the town attack the girls for lying to them? It's complete?
4598939 I'd have to agree, but, it is the writers decision.
4598939 The girls don't have to tell the townsponies they were Mare Do Well. Besides, it wasn't really lying, it was having a secret identity. Like Batman.
Maybe I'll do something with Scootaloo, but I intended this story to be like a slap in the face to the other 5, like they realized out doing Rainbow Dash wasn't the best way to handle things. Applejack's already said that it was Rainbow's decision to leave, and they can't interfere. Besides, ponies need independence in this world.
4599048 oh... not sure how to feel about this
All aboard the Feels train to Feelsville
4599385 that's a bit dark isn't it?
Wait I just thought of something... wasn't Rainbow Dash pranking them when she said she was moving? Or maybe the writer is pranking us
Honestly, after reading this story, that's a darn shame.
4599385 That would be dark. I just read a fanfiction where Rainbow tries to slay the Hydra to be better than Mare Do Well, but she ends up dying.
4599502 She was mad at them for "betraying" her, so she actually went through with her plan.
4599613 I wasn't a part of the fandom when the episode aired, so I don't know the history of the fandom's reactions to episodes. Sorry!
4599711 I've already got one request for Part of One. Do you think I should do that?
lovely story so far.
I want to see more i don't care what will happen a happy ending or not.
Yes. Saving her flank when she was too busy grandstanding to save ponies. That sounds like betrayal to me.
4598432
I like that episode.
4601068 She didn't understand that they were doing this to teach her modesty. The way Rainbow saw it, it was betrayal that they tried to upstart her. She didn't know that they were doing this for her benefit, because then I would have had to put in a cheesy dialogue where Twilight explains everything, and nopony does that in real life.
Nlce; as the saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold, and those five got an ice-cold dose of "You are all douchebags!"
Liked and faved!
4601556 Thank you!
I'd like to see power ponies and party of one's alternate endings...
4602112 Maybe. I've gotten lots of requests for those, specifically Party of One.
4600027 Out of the two, yes. But do both
4601068
I feel like the entire cast fucked up, myself. The other five should have pulled Rainbow aside and called her out on her ego (and not resorted to this bizarre superhero plan if she wouldn't listen), but on the other hand they did end up saving lives that Rainbow wouldn't have. I wanted to write a short story where Rainbow is calling them out on their scheme like in most of these stories...and then Applejack asks how Rainbow was going to save that cart that AJ stopped.

I think the idea was that RD's head was so far up her flanks that she WOULDN'T have listened, and would have turned hostile on her friends for "stealing her thunder".
This was an amazing read, and I'm a bit sad there isn't more. Although it'd be great to see the other two. You have earned yourself a like, favorite, comment, and follow. Well done.
4603202
True, but they're never shown confronting her. It's not an unreasonable complaint when people say "they never even talked to her about it!" because as far as we can be sure, they didn't. I don't hate the episode (or any of them, really) but I do consider it one of the most flawed.
4603202
However, the fact they didn't even try to talk to her is the point, not speculation on what would have happened if they did or didn't because we really don't know. Sure they saved ponies as MDW, no one disputes that fact, but the reasoning for doing it was lackluster thanks mostly to the poor construction of the episode. As for the whole betrayal thing, when she came to them in need of a confidence boost and was laughed at for her pain, while her own friends went bragging about their own accomplishments that would constituent betrayal or abandonment, depending on the point of view.
But considering the series of episodes that sprung up concerning RD that season, MDW is par for the course along with the other two ones she starred in. The general response of the other 5 when it came to RD's stuff was to either whisper behind her back or laugh in her face.
4603516
Fluttershy also gets the mockery/laughter treatment, as does Twilight. Enjoying the emotional pain of their friends seems to be a hobby for the Mane 6.
4603516
Personally I had an idea for a comedy that never got written where the ponies try EVERYTHING before going with Mare Do Well from shouting the truth at her, to neon signs.
I sorta had the idea that Rainbow Dash was lying when she said she was leaving. Personally, I think she shouldn't have left like that. She's the Element of Loyalty, she'd never do that, but she would still prank her friends, which is why I'm going there. I liked the story a lot thought. I was good.
4603777 Yeah, there's that.
There's actually a theory that Applejack and RD should switch elements.
Are you working on your story?
4603795 NOOOO!!!! and no...
4603803 Did you read what you just posted?
4603803 Go work!
4603807 Hey it was an accident! I'm still leaning!! Yeah I'm pretty stupid...
4603832 No you're not. How much progress have you made?
4603842 Shhhh!! I'm working!!!
4604476
In other words, Rainbow Dash did it all to herself.
4604881
At least it sounds better than the 'turn all station of canon fights into curb stomp battles by making the baddies static and chained to narrative and the heroes dynamic.'
It was rushed a bit and the story and scene could of done with a bit more description.
Grammar needs some work that's not too big a problem.
All together, A damn good story. Keep it up
Very interesting twist :)
I can't wait to see more of this story :)
Wait, that's it? What happens next?!
