Stupid question, but why didn't Twilight teleport to safety before she fell into the ice?

During the episode, Twilight says that she won't use magic and do things the 'earth pony' way so I tried to keep as true to that as possible with the exception of when she was underwater because her life was in direct jeopardy.
Hopefully that makes sense :P
