Still slowly trying to disentangle from MLP. It is ... slow going.

T

Spike has always been in love with Rarity. But when Rarity announces she's found her one true love, Spike is left devastated. In a surprising twist, the one to mend his broken heart may be Princess Celestia.

This, of course, doesn't sit right with Twilight Sparkle.

But Twilight may put too much focus on Spike that she may not notice a certain Apple mare trying to tell her something very obvious ...

This is pretty solid. The story seems good and I didn't notice any grammar issues or clunky dialogue.

I like this. A solid beginning. Writing techniques used throughout the story. I'll admit the first line got me hooked. Now where you'll go with this I want to read. Just need to steel my heart from the "depressing stuff" your talking about.

5150462

Perhaps "depressing" was too strong a word. But rest assured, it's not gonna be a smooth ride.

I'm in this for the Spike shipping

Well, I'm disappointed in his actions, but I still believe that every soul needs a soulmate, no matter the species or gender. And I think that for a dragon, some creature that is similarily as long-lived as dragons (like alicorns) would be a better relationship. Eventually Rarity would succumb to the sands of time.

And if Celestia can truly forgive Spike for what looks to be instinct and help him recover, I'm all for it.

I still wished that there was somepoint that Rarity does already know about the crush, and should have let Spike down gently, instead of leaving him to his own resources. She knew already that she didn't like him like that, at least it would be courteous of her to tell him that she's found love with a stallion (and I know inadvertantly it's another knock on Spike--this time it's because he's a dragon)...:moustache: Seems to me that true generousity isn't just giving one their time and resources, but it also is generous enough to give the time to others that need your time, even if only for 15 minutes. Honestly, that seems to be the most stingy thing she's done---hogging all her time to be with her boyfriend/fiance and basically abandoning a true friend that needs you more than ever.

And other the other side, I really hope that Applejack has the balls (figurately speaking) to finally let her feeling for Princess Twilight. Twi already has shown that she doesn't give a damn about class, prestige, or other shit like that. Crown/wings or not, Twilight is still Twilight--nerdy, adorkable, book-obsessive Twilight. [The entire story really does seem that it's gonna trounce the class line to bits, we have Rarity/Hayseed, Spike/Celestia, and Applejack/Twilight----fuck the class lines anyway, love is blind]

so, Turnip deserves Rarity more than Spike just because he became rich?

After all they went through together, is Rarity so shallow to like him more than Spike just because he made more money?

on second tought...maybe she IS! :D

grats Spike, you are saved. live for centuries and find true love. :moustache:

I understand Twijack but Spike and Celestia? He's like a mother to him.

During the Spike and Hayseed fight, I kept thinking about how long Spike's been trying to get her, and with just a single day, hayseed steals her away just like that AND acting like everything Spike did was comparable to what hayseed could've done in so little time... Plus, I have to ask why twilight was siding so hard towards hayseed? Just because spike lied once; A LIE THAT TURNED OUT TO BE COMPLETELY USELESS!!! and not hitting hayseed for the insult; kicking someone while they're basically balled up, crying on the floor... unless she actually likes to see spike crying

but then again, I've probably been looking at too much Spikeabuse pictures (to get mad at and think up a story where my favorite character gets them all back [tenfold, sometimes]) and reading too many stories where he actually does get his vengeance by the end

5152474

This story was the result of a request. One bit of the request was a Spike/Celestia shipping. Sometimes I like a writing challenge, so I took it

.5152390
Sort of. What Hayseed did was go from "working class" like Applejack, to "upper class," like Fancypants and his entourage. He also started his own successful business from the ground up, which is pretty impressive, right? And he did all in the hopes of earning Rarity's respect, and maybe even love.

The idea here is: Spike thinks he's the only one who's earned Rarity's love because he's put into a lot of hours working for it. The problem with that defense is that Hayseed also put in a lot of hours working for it, even if Hayseed did so in a different, less personal form.

5152827

The intent was that it wasn't so much the lie itself so much for the terrible, soul-crushing effect it had on Hayseed. Though how Twilight came to know about that terrible soul-crushing was perhaps not executed as well it could have been.

5152964 well, how could it possibly be "soul-crushing" or "terrible" if he got together with Rarity anyway, in fact, I might argue that it helped him get her in the first place

Aw I thought this was a Spike x Applejack, but I hope you have a fun time writing this story bye

5152858

well but Turnip has met Rarity only a couple of times, Spike has shared moments and adventures side by side with her for years, doesn't that count for something?

anyway, no matter what they do, none of them are entitled to anything, the decision is up to Rarity.

keepwriting =)

5153330

Hmm. I hadn't thought about the whole adventures angle, but the "It's Rarity's choice" is something I'm planning to pick up on.

Epic, this shipping with Spike and Celestia seems good! Please continue!:pinkiehappy:

I've already said my points with Spike.

But take this quote:

Still, Applejack felt she couldn't compete. She wasn't a valid choice as Twilight's suitor. She wasn't a prince from a faraway land or a knight in shining armor or anything fancy in the same vein. She was Applejack. Humble, honest, down-to-earth Applejack.

While Twilight … Twilight was a Princess. Twilight was Princess Celestia's personal student. Twilight had a coat colored lavender – lavender, which was a shade of purple, which was associated with nobles. How could Applejack hope to the win the heart of somepony whose bare flesh alone represented the color of royalty …

While she was just a simple mud pony?

It's amazing how Applejack's dilemma are close to exactly the same as Spike, and at the same time completely different. Both Applejack and Spike have deep feelings for another that they think that they are not worthy for them. That's the similarity. The stark difference is that Applejack doesn't feel that she is good enough for Twilight (and we all found out that she's so down-to-Equestria it's sickening at times), while Spike believes that Rarity is too good for anyone except him (surprise, surprise :ajbemused::facehoof:) [and we all found out that though Rarity likes him as a friend, it is just that, a friend, and someone like Hayseed has earned the chance to court her, and basically Spike cheated].

It's gonna blow both of their minds when they realize that what both wanted was what is standing in front of them, and and that once they realize that they do not need to change who they are in order to find love, their souls will finally be sated of that gnawing desire for a soulmate.

We know what the destination is; but I for one are looking forward to the journey. We know what AJ and Spike want [companionship at the very least, but definitely something more], and we know the objects of their affection [Twilight and Celestia, respectively--though the fact that they are both princesses and alicorns is just a cool coincidence]. The main questions is how it comes to pass, and we know that it isn't a straight line from A to B.

5153010

Because Hayseed didn't believe that he had a chance with Rarity, especially after Spike lied to him with telling Hayseed that she was taken, and that Spike was the reason why she's taken.

Remember, Rarity asked Hayseed herself, not Hayseed asking Rarity out. He may have been a little confused because he believed and wondered why somepony would ask him out if she was taken already, but over time the truth was found out. And when he discovered that he did have a chance with her, he took full opportunity of it---and c'est la vie, Rarity is now his marefriend, and probably soon to be his wife. Rarity got somepony that is just like her--self made, high class good enough for Canterlot, and knowing that his roots are in Ponyville just like her. Perfect 10/10.

5155641 and how long did that deception last? Judging from the condition of the flowers, which start to wither between ½ and 2 hours, I highly doubt it was even a single day of sadness... and you think that that's somehow comparable to how Spike has been treated and how long he's been putting up with it, (no definitive timeline, but I would argue at least a year and a half)

5155665

Yes. To Spike, he knows that Rarity has always seen him as the little dragon kid that was with Twilight, a bit immature, a tag-along kid. Probably he believed that as the years pass on, eventually the familiarity with Rarity and others would get Rarity to start to see him as something more than just a little brother.

What he didn't plan for was that Rarity would be looking for love as well, her own special somepony, and that is Hayseed, not to mention the similarities with Hayseed's story to her own. You could also say that Spike may thought that she would wait for him....well that didn't happen.

The silver lining is that even though he loses his chance at Rarity, the "constellation prize" is potentially Princess Celestia. :trollestia:. There is still the chance that Spike is gonna end up alone, but I think it's nice that he's finally given a chance at love, because being alone and feeling used sucks hardcore.

It was more than ready for Spike to lose the rose-color eyes for one and see that Rarity is at the very basic one mare in countless other mares in the world. And just like that Rarity probably still treats Spike as a friend (though I bet that's gonna be strained if not broken when the cat's out of the bag), there probably are gonna be countless other ponies and other beings that do see Spike as more than a friend. It's just time for him to discover that for himself and life didn't have to revolve around a mare that didn't share his feelings.

5155836 I completely agree with what you said in this post and have never argued against it, I was making the point that what happened to Hayseed wasn't actually "soul-crushing" or "terrible" for more than a VERY short period of time, and ultimately pointless because it was undone very shortly afterwards

5155947

I apologize as well. I did want to reenforce my point, but I have a confession--I made the comment in response to the downvote of my previous comment. I assumed that it was you, and really felt that I had to make my opinion known. But it looks more that it wasn't you, and Since it looks like we are on the same page, let bygones be bygones, yes?

5155979 of course, and I was just kinda pissed because of all the stories where Spike's abuses and mistreatments get vocalized, this was the weakest by far (in that aspect)

Came for the Spike shipping, found Spike written as a liar, a presumptuous loser, and a crybaby. Fucking great.

No, he certainly isn't "a squeaky-clean good guy", but he's definitely a little too far on the opposite side of the spectrum for me to take seriously. And that's just his underhandedness. His behavior is almost as ridiculous as watching the friendliest, most dependable and down-to-earth character (the one who used the Elements of Harmony to convince Twilight that their friendship would forever remain intact) thinking that one of her best friends would consider class reason enough to turn her down. This was not a fun chapter.

That doesn't mean I'm not interested, though. Just that Spike's behavior and AJ's dilemma are utterly absurd.

“Why don't you go see Hayseed and Twilight and see about apologies before you turn into Nightmare Spike or something?”

Hmm I'm not sure what to think on the spike/celestia thing... New ground for me... hope it goes well...

You know, Almost every fic i read is Rarity with some A-hole of a stallion. But this time its spike thats the A-hole and Hayseed Turnip is the good one. You sir have a keeper.

Does Rarity know about Spikes feelings for her or is she oblivious? If she is aware then would that mean she is a bitch for using him like she has or am I overthinking this?

That ending made me squee like a Japanese schoolgirl.

I honestly thought it was reasonable for Applejack to be at least slightly put off by the new-found class difference. As a character, she just wants to live a simple farm life. Being in a romantic relationship with royalty would certainly make things more complicated, which is a perfectly acceptable source of trepidation. Thinking that Twilight would reject her over something like that, slightly less so. I suppose Twilight could reject her because she understood that Applejack wanted to live simply, but I'm sure that would make things more complicated than they need to be.

:raritystarry: Spikes dating Princess Celestia?
 You got Hayseedturnuptruck!
:moustache: Had your chance
:applejackconfused: Rares ya done messed up
:trollestia: Behold King Spike
:raritydespair:Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

5993870 I second that squee.

Since when does Big Mac knows a thing or two about relationship unless he IS seeing Cheerilee!!!

great stuff here cant wait for more

First part: Fuck you Twilight Sparkle. It wasn't enough to just let Spike's heart break by itself into a million pieces. No, it wasn't even when you admonished him for his actions (which in truth, you was in the right, I can admit), but then the issue of the next day. Just saying to Spike that actually having the guts to ask CELESTIA of all ponies out was a huge mistake? Way to pretty much piss on the ashes of his feelings. Some princess of friendship you are. How in the fucking hell do you even know what Celestia likes in a possible date?! You can't even find a damn mate of your own, don't even realize that there is one pining for you already--yet you are so in tune with the Princess of the Sun that you know that a possible date of Spike with Princess Celestia (not a relationship, just a simple date mind you) couldn't work. Hah!! At least there is a reason Applejack's smashed....Speaking of:

Second Part: I know that Rarity is just being a good friend to Applejack, but part of me want to AJ to slug Rarity. And that reason would be that Rarity pretty much is rubbing that in her face that she has a boyfriend and AJ doesn't. I can get what's Rarity's scheme is though: get honest Applejack to be a little too honest about her feelings and just let it all hang out that she has the hots for some mare (she admits she's a fillyfooler in so many words, but is ashamed for having the hots for Twilight). If anything, Applejack could stand to take a bit at Spike; at least he knows that he likes ones that pretty much are out of his league, and it doesn't stop him. Twilight's probably in a different class, but it doesn't matter because she's one of Applejack's best friends to start even before the wings and crown..

Sorry guys....I just fininshed reading this roughly an hour ago. I shouldn't have anger and resentment from reading the chapter, but it looks like there were parts that just pissed me off from the previous chapter. It was just a continuation of all the events. I also am a huge Spike shipper, so for me it was still rubbing me the wrong way--Twilight's still belittling Spike for one.

I know that things will turn for the better, just had to get my rant out of the way. Carry on.

I can't get over the fact that he is a child and she's thousands of years old...

5994717 I feel the same way dude. The why Twilight laughed in his face when he decided to ask Celestia out got on my nerves too. The only reason I'm not mad is the fact that Twilight will have most epic meltdown ever when Celestia agrees to it.:trollestia::rainbowlaugh:

5994943 Well it depends on how old Spike is in this story. In a lot of stories he's only a few years younger than Twilight. And before you bring up maturity that doesn't always go hand to hand with age. And Spike has proven to have his mature moments as well as his kid moments. Something that everyone has from time to time.

As for the age gap thing there have been far bigger ones in other stories. Let me ask you a question, are you a fan of Steven Universe?

5993870 I have to agree with you there Applejacks fears are understandable, but I don't think it's the only reason. She doesn't know for sure if Twilight swings that way or not. That is one reason why she would say no and remain as friends. That and I can see the OCD princess freaking out about being confessed to since she's never actually been in a relationship or even on date(if you don't count the movies which I don't). She would probably say while having a panic attack.:facehoof:

Spike can't go out on a date with Celestia because that's like his mom.
Isn't Hayseed a part of the Apple Family?

5996030 He was there at the recent Apple Family reunion.

5994717 I honestly can't blame Twilight for laughing at Spike. Spike saying he's going to ask out Celestia is like a child (I'm assuming he's still a child) saying they are going to ask out Obama. Ya, Twilight doesn't know what Celestia's tastes in dates are but it's still a baby dragon asking out an ancient demi-god. it's one of things you hear and just think 'you're joking right?'

Also i found the Spike Celestia thing really forced. Spike has one dream about her and BAM, he's head over heals love with her. Not only is that the epitome of puppy love, it's also rather fickle.

5995191 Steven Universe? I actually just started watching it a few days ago. I'm on episode 13. NO SPOILERS PLEASE :twilightsheepish:

But yeah, I see what you mean about the maturity. I just see Spike as more of a kid than an adult. :applejackunsure:

6002447 Since your a fan you know about the relationship between Steven's parents, Greg and Rose. Lets just say the age gap between those two are way bigger than Spike and Celestia.

6001240

We will have to agree to disagree, then.

Obviously based on how Celestia took Spike's invitation, apparently the Princess of the Sun believed it was valuable enough time to go out of her way to actually give Spike a chance, hence it wasn't a joke. If Celestia was like Twilight, she could sent back a letter or something similar with a note saying "I'm honored by your request but regretfully I have to decline due to [insert reason for rejection here]". As we saw in the end of the chapter, she didn't simply blow Spike off.

Also the whole apparent squick between a possible Celestia/Spike fling? I see that a lot like Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. It can work, takes a bit of time, but can work.

I think we have to stop assuming so much. We pigeonhole so many things because we assume. I have to give Spike a thumbs up for even have the gall and balls to even asked Celestia out in the first place.

6004553 I'm not against the idea of Celestia x Spike. And i can totally get behind the idea of Celestia being interested in dragons and being willing to date Spike. That's fine with me.
I just feel Spike's sudden interest in Celestia happens way to fast. Spike has one dream about her and instantly he believes he's in love. That just feels so forced. There should be more done that causes him to suddenly shift from seeing Celestia as ruler to a potential marefriend.

You have done a very nice job with this story, reading it a few times over to get a fresh look on it, this was beautifully written, the somberness and heart warming moments rise and fall almost perfectly, the turmoils of Apple Jack's fear of rejection mirrors that of Spike's denial I was a little put off by Apple Jack's drinking it made me fill uncomfortable seeing such a hard working pony reduce to such a level but that also wanted me to see more wondering how she would overcome this hurdle or how far will she sink until she realizes the truth.

While I adored Spike's seen a little confused on how Heyseed was literary in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I'll look past that, I will say Celestia comforting Spike with a soft hoof approach was just beautiful its what I expect in a top notch comfort scene, I like how its the exact opposite of Apple Jack's instead of being straight forward Rarity enables Apple Jack's self loathing, pitying her I knew I could put you up to it Darkty, you impress me.

Reading this again, hmm well the beginning was very nice, how Spike matured up and apologized took a lot of guts, though I may see why people are disagreeing with Spike's sudden move on, I find it understandable he had puppy love for Rarity and I think he also developed the same for Celestia because some people will jump from an old relationship to a new one very quickly. But I wonder what would happen if Rarity spoke with Spike again, would that rekindle lost desire?

Twilight while she is being harsh I see that she is more protecting him from getting his heart broken, those points that she brought up are very big obstacles and let us not forget how Luna would feel about this ordeal.

I do think Celestia dropping everything and heading to Ponyvile was a little rushed, and her reaction was too sudden bolting is something I except Spike to do, not Celestia who has to appear strong before her subjects. A better approach would have been if she arrived at night during her off time to give the impression of a anticipation and suspense or summon Spike to her castle so they could discuss things in the privacy of her throne room. but showing up so quickly seems forced the chapter was great but the ending could have packed more of a punch.

I'm still happy about the story and wait for more.

Signed your biggest Fan and friend Tailsabsolutuin

My thoughts are the pursuit of Celestia should be slow, like several chapters and years into the future. Mainly due to dragons living a long life and he is still physically younger then the CMC. Other then that, I wonder if Applejack will make her move soon since Spike has made his.
Maybe she needs help in the fact Twilight got terrible suitors (nobles) coming towards via mail.

5994717
6001240
Twilight's right, though. Celestia comforted him the exact same day his hopes for Rarity were broken. Unless there was already long-lasting sexual tension already present, there is no conceivable way Celestia would be anything other than a rebound. People who have the affections denied will look elsewhere, even if they don't intend to.

6004553

Obviously based on how Celestia took Spike's invitation, apparently the Princess of the Sun believed it was valuable enough time to go out of her way to actually give Spike a chance, hence it wasn't a joke.

Except she had no idea he was intending to ask her out. That's like suggesting that because a friend came over to your house when you invited them over, they're fine with you asking them out. Until the very end, there was no chance-giving involved.

5994943
Twilight would have taken the test at... somewhere between 8 and 11, I think, and she's a young adult when the show starts (19-21, probably). At the oldest, he's a thirteen year old when the show starts, and if we're generous it's been three years since then. So 16. And since he's still called a baby dragon, then dragons mature really slowly--despite having his moments, his overall maturity isn't on the level of a 16 year old.

I don't really find an issue with Celestia's age--if she went out with an 80 year old, she'd be cradle robbing--because once you live enough the difference between your age and your paramour's stops mattering. What matters is the age of the younger one of its own accord. Different nations have different ages of consent, but if we're going by U.S. law then he's two years away from being legal (even ignoring what his age would be in dragon years).

:moustache::trollestia: Ha ha ha ha ha
