Author's Note:

So as a heads up, Zubric and I are rewriting the story. So, here we are, back at square one. Some things will be the same, some won't just stick around and we'll see where this takes us.

Ever had one of those days where the world seems tranquil and still, where nothing could possibly go wrong? Well it turned out to be a day like that as I strolled along the mountain path. After a long shift at work, nothing quite compared to walking amongst nature and the sharp peaks. I took in the cool afternoon air as I decided to take an adventure and went off the usual path heading up a hill covered in fallen logs and stumps.

Wanting to take a photo of some sleeping deer, I reached into my pocket, only to curse under my breath as I realized I had forgotten to bring my cellphone. Wasn’t so bad to be cut off, at least my mother wouldn’t phone to nag about something. She is caring and all, but really, is alone time too much to ask? My cursing startles the deer, who take off into the woods. I sigh, resuming my walk.

Upon reaching the top of the hill, I spotted something off across the meadow. I’ve studied a lot about flora in my spare time, so I was pretty sure a bright blue flower sticking out amongst bright oranges and greens wasn’t normal for this region. I hardly noticed the wind starting to blow as I navigated my way across the scattered branches, swiftly approaching the pine. I felt an odd tingle run up my spine causing me to shiver slightly, I shook it off as it being the cold air. I leaned down to examine my prize, puzzled now that I was getting a closer look at the bloom.

The petals were a bright sea blue with a few white petals in the center. Something didn’t seem right here, it just seemed out of place, like a sore thumb. I didn’t dare touch it, after all it could be poisonous; enough books on nature had taught me that. As I got on my knee to get a closer look, I felt the tingle return again. The wind was picking up more and I looked up to spot some clouds rolling in. That couldn't be right, the sky was clear just a minute ago. Colours began to distort in my vision as the hairs on my arms stood up.

All my instincts told me to run, but I couldn't seem to will the ability to do so as I watched the phenomenon before me. The flower glowed an eerie cyan, sparks jumping off the edges. A moment later, the ground seemed to fall away. I grabbed onto a branch, hanging on for dear life as I felt a suction. I peered down to look, only to see some kind of swirling multi-colour vortex. Frozen in terror, I hung on tighter, only to hear the light crack of the branch as gravity started to yank me down. I screamed as the branch broke with a thunderous snap, and I found myself falling into the void. I let out a cry as I fell, the world going black as I felt energy surge through my skull.

Consciousness returned with the rhythmic pounding of a heart. It wasn’t mine I was hearing, however. Wherever I was, it was dark, cramped, and warm all around. I tried to open my eyes but couldn’t and I wanted to panic. No matter how I tried, I just couldn’t work up the energy to even move a muscle. Time passed as I phased in and out of awareness, feeling strange each time. I have no idea how long I was in there, but it felt like forever.

Suddenly, I became fully aware of my surroundings. The background beating of the heart was now rapid. I could hear muffled speech beyond whatever was containing me. Without warning, the walls around me started to move and I found myself being pushed out. I felt something grab me, and as I opened my eyes, I was blinded by the light. For some reason I started to cry, swallowing a gulp of air. Something warm was wrapped around me and I was suddenly being held in someone’s arms.

When my eyes started to adjust, I was met with the sight of a pair of large purple eyes staring at me. I wanted to scream, but nothing escaped my throat besides a soft whimper. I tried to glance around more, but found my muscles unresponsive. Having no other choice, I stared back at those huge pupils and felt odd comfort well inside me.

“Congratulations Princess Twilight, it’s a colt,” I heard someone say from beyond my view.

“Hey there,” the pair of eyes said, gleaming with happiness. “I’m your mommy,” she cooed. Whoever this person was, she had a very sweet voice, like chimes jingling in the wind.

Suddenly I heard doors swinging open.

“Twilight, I’m here! I came as soon as I heard!” said a new voice, which sounded strained, as if the owner had been running a lot.

“Flash, come look at him, he looks just like you,” the sweet voice said, sounding rather tired.

Suddenly I was moved around and came face to face with a new pair of eyes. A light shade of blue stared at me that seemed to shine as they gazed at me. “He does, doesn’t he?” he asked, gazing down at me.

What in the hell was going on? The last thing I remembered was finding that weird flower, now I was - well I had no idea where I was, really. Is this what heaven looks like? If it is, it sure has a lot of big colorful eyes.

“Excuse me, Mr. Sentry, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave. The Princess and the foal need some rest and I bet you're tired as well,” said another voice, one I couldn’t see.

Princess? When did my town get royalty? I tried to move around again, only to find that my body just refused to listen to my commands.

“Oh my, it seems this little one doesn’t want to rest,” the sweet voice spoke again. “Rest my little pony, Mommy and Daddy will be here when you wake up.”

I heard her start to sing a strange lullaby which made me feel very tired. My eyelids grew heavy and I couldn’t keep them open...

“Have you decided on a name, Princess?” I heard someone say before I completely blacked out.

“Yes, I have,” she said, “His name is Dusk Star.”

I woke up some time later, feeling oddly warm, my body cocooned in a blanket. Blinking, I looked around, finding myself in what I guessed was a bed. I tried to will my body into moving again, only to be disappointed. I opened my mouth to attempt to call for help, only for naught but a soft gurgling noise to leave my lips.

I was shocked by my lack of speech and was about to scream in fear and frustration. Suddenly I heard something like a clopping sound coming towards me and my vision was suddenly filled with another pair of big eyes.

“Hello there little Prince, how are you this morning?” the voice asked, lifting me up. I squirmed a little as the blanket was stripped away. “Looks like somepony is wet. Let’s fix that shall we?”

Somepony? Little? What the hell was going on? I opened my mouth to protest, only for more gurgling to come out. I felt something lift me up, which shouldn’t be possible, seeing as how I’m a grown man weighing about two hundred pounds.

It was then I was able to get a good look at whatever was holding me. She, at least I think it’s a she, was some kind of pony creature, her coat was white and she had a pink mane and tail. I couldn’t help but start to panic, trying to call out for help.

“It’s alright, Dusk Star,” the pony cooed, rocking me gently. “I’ll get you cleaned up in no time.”

“That is not my name!” I cried, unable to stem the tide of emotions that flowed from me. I had no idea why I was freaking out like this, I’m not usually this emotional. Then again, I don’t normally run into talking horses.

“Calm down little one, it’s going to be okay, you probably just miss your mommy don’t you?” she coos, cradling me in her forelegs. That’s what I think they’re called anyway, I know very little about pony anatomy, having been an arts major in college.

As I was cradled, I felt a calming sensation come over me. “There that’s better, now let’s get your diaper changed,” she said, as she carried me somewhere.

“Diaper? I’m an adult, I don’t wear diapers!” I tried to protest, once more only managing gurgles.

I felt myself being laid on my back on a smooth surface, looking straight up at the ceiling. I heard a slight crinkling sound below me and I tried to tilt my head, but I didn’t have the strength to move my head down. I heard a soft tearing sound followed by the feeling of something being removed from my lower half. I jumped a bit, as something cold touched me.

“Almost done,” the nurse cooed softly before starting to dump something on me. I coughed a bit, managing to shake my head, then felt something soft and plastic wrapped around my waist. “There, a fresh diaper,” the nurse says, lifting me up again.

I craned my head down and moaned when I saw a fluffy white diaper around my waist.

“Okay little Prince, are you ready to go see your mommy and daddy?” Redheart said.

I looked back up at her and raised a brow. “Wait, my parents are here too?” That’s when I started to put everything together. The diaper, being called Dusk Star, the ‘little one’ comments. I could think of two options. One, I’m in a coma and this is all a dream. Or two, I had somehow been reincarnated... which meant I was no longer myself.

“Come on little Prince, let’s go see your mommy,” she said, as she put me on her back.

I wasn’t really listening, too shocked to focus on anything at this point. Another thought quickly came to mind - if the nurse was a talking pony... did that make me a pony as well? I tried to get a better view of myself, but my body continued refusing to move properly.

I rode on her back, carried down a hallway, presumably returning to my new parents. As we went along, I saw ponies pass us by, sometimes taking a glance at me and smiling. As we entered one of the many hospital rooms, I tried to look ahead but was unable to due to the mane in the way.

“Princess Sparkle, Dusk is awake,” she said lifting me off her back.

As I was held out by my armpits, I saw a mare with a purple coat and mane, who I guessed was my mother. I knew it was her by the look of maternal love in her familiar purple eyes, the same ones that welcomed me back into the world.

“Good morning, Dusk Star,” she said with a smile, somehow lifting me out of the nurse’s hooves without using her own hooves. I started to panic at the odd sensation, whimpering and threatening to burst into tears.

“Aw, what’s wrong Dusk, aren’t you happy to see your mommy?” she asked, putting me over her shoulder and starting to pat and rub my back with her hoof.

“I think your magic scared him,” a familiar voice said as the figure walked into the room. I blinked as a stallion walked in, his coat was orange with dark blue streaks running through his mane.

“Hey little guy,” my new father said, smiling as he came up next to the bed. He leaned down and nuzzled my head. I yet again felt the soothing comfort of the contact. I heard a door burst open and what sounded like hooves running across the floor, coming towards us.

“TWILIGHT!” screamed what sounded like several female voices.

Suddenly I saw movement next to me and I turned my head, only to suddenly be nose to nose with something pink.

“Gah! What is that!” I shouted, feeling my tiny heart beating quickly.

“Oh my gosh Twilight is this your new foal?! Aww he is so cute, hey there little Dusk Star, I’m your auntie Pinkie Pie! Happy first birthday! You want to know why it’s your birthday? Because you were just born today!”

Confetti exploded as the pink mare pulled a cake from out of nowhere. The sudden appearance of both were too much for me and I started to wail, burying my face into my new mother’s furry chest.

“Pinkie, tone it down please, you scared the poor dear,” a high society accented voice said, scolding the excited mare.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” Pinkie apologized.

I raised my head to see who Pinkie was talking to. I saw a mare with a pristine white coat, her curled mane a dark shade of purple. For some bizarre reason, she made me think of marshmallows.

“It’s all right, but do remember he has no idea what’s going on,” the mare said as she smiled at me.

Her smile made me feel warm inside. “Aw, he’s so cute,” another mare said, this one with a light pink mane and light yellow fur. This mare approached the bed as the pink one seemed to back up bashfully. She said nothing at first, simply continuing to smile at me as I glanced at her features.

“Dusk Star, these are your aunties, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack,” Mother explained, turning me so I could fully see the assembled ponies. They each waved a hello, all smiling happily.

I gurgled a little at them, getting a collective ‘daww’ from the mares, which made me blush a little. I couldn’t help but yawn a bit, my eyelids drooping. ‘I just woke up, how am I so tired.’ I thought as my body went limp.

“Looks like somepony needs another nap,” Mother said, starting to rock me, singing the lullaby again. As if entranced, I was slowly lulled to sleep by it. Whatever had happened to me, answers would have to wait till after my nap.
